Abstract

Disclosed are orthopedic implant kits. One disclosed kit comprises an implant having a joint head portion, the joint head portion having a generally convex distal surface and generally concave proximal surface, the implant comprising a post portion protruding proximally from the proximal surface, the post portion having a dorsal surface and a ventral surface (which is a plantar surface in the case of a metatarsal bone) and including a first threaded aperture extending therebetween, and a bone screw. The bone screw has a threaded shaft complementary to the threaded surface of the post portion and preferably is configured to provide bicortical fixation of the implant.

Claims (31)

1 . An orthopedic implant kit comprising:

an implant, said implant having a joint head portion, said joint head portion having generally convex distal surface and a generally concave proximal surface, said implant further comprising a post portion protruding proximally from said proximal surface, said post portion having a dorsal surface and a ventral surface and including a first threaded aperture extending between said dorsal surface to said ventral surface; and

a first bone screw, said bone screw having a threaded shaft complementary to said threaded surface of said post portion, said first bone screw being configured to provide bicortical fixation of said implant.

2 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 1 , wherein the post includes a plurality of threaded apertures each extending between said dorsal surface to said ventral surface and a plurality of bone screws each having a threaded shaft complementary to at least one of the threaded apertures and each configured to provide bicortical fixation of said implant.

3 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 1 , further comprising a dorsal plate portion protruding proximally from said proximal surface.

4 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 3 wherein the dorsal plate portion includes a first keyed alignment structure.

5 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 3 , wherein the dorsal plate portion includes at least a first dorsal plate aperture extending therethrough and being axially aligned with said first aperture in said post portion.

6 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 5 wherein the dorsal plate portion further includes a first keyed alignment structure.

7 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 6 , wherein said first dorsal plate aperture is juxtaposed with said first keyed alignment structure.

8 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 6 , the dorsal plate portion including an aperture that is not juxtaposed with said first keyed alignment structure.

9 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 6 , said first dorsal plate aperture being juxtaposed with said first keyed alignment structure and said dorsal plate further including a second dorsal plate aperture that is not juxtaposed with said keyed alignment structure, said kit including a corresponding second bone screw.

10 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 5 , wherein the dorsal plate portion includes at least a second dorsal plate aperture extending therethrough, said kit including a corresponding second bone screw.

11 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 10 , said second dorsal plate aperture being axially aligned with a second threaded aperture in said post portion, said second bone screw including threading that is complementary to that of said second threaded aperture of said post portion.

12 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 5 , said first dorsal plate aperture being threaded and said first bone screw having a threaded head that is complementary to the threading of said first dorsal plate aperture.

13 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 12 , said dorsal plate including a second dorsal plate aperture and a second bone screw, said second bone screw having a threaded head that is complementary to the threading of said first dorsal plate aperture.

14 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 4 , said kit further including a target guide, said target guide having a keyed structure complementary to and engageable with said keyed structure in said dorsal plate, said target guide including at least one proximal aperture.

15 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 14 , said proximal aperture in said target guide being axially aligned with an aperture in said post portion when said target guide is positioned in said dorsal plate with the respective key structures in engagement.

16 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 14 , said kit including a drill guide engageable with said proximal aperture.

17 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 16 , said proximal aperture being threaded, said kit including a drill guide having a complementary threaded surface.

18 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 17 , said drill guide comprising a uniaxial drill guide.

19 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 1 , the joint head portion including a bone-engaging hook.

20 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 1 , including a hydroxyapatite coating on a bone-engaging surface of said implant.

21 . An orthopedic implant kit comprising:

an implant, said implant having a joint head portion, said joint head portion having generally convex distal surface and a generally concave proximal surface;

a dorsal plate portion protruding proximally from said proximal surface, wherein the dorsal plate portion includes at least a first dorsal plate aperture extending therethrough; and

a first bone screw having a threaded shaft, said threaded shaft being sized to fit through said first dorsal plate aperture, said first bone screw being configured to provide bicortical fixation of said implant.

22 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 21 , the dorsal plate portion including at least a second dorsal plate aperture extending therethrough; the kit including a second bone screw having a threaded shaft, said threaded shaft being sized to fit through said second dorsal plate aperture, said second bone screw being configured to provide bicortical fixation of said implant.

23 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 22 , at least one of said first and second dorsal plate apertures comprising a compression aperture.

24 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 22 , at least one of said first and second dorsal plate apertures comprising a threaded locking aperture, wherein at least one of said first and second bone screws has a threaded head that is complementary to the threading of said threaded locking aperture.

25 . The orthopedic implant kit of claim 21 , the joint head portion including a bone-engaging hook.

26 .- 33 . (canceled)
