Abstract

A security camera system includes a base unit and sensor modules for generating image data. The base unit includes several mounting sockets arranged at different elevational and azimuthal directions around the base unit, and the sensor modules attach, for example, magnetically, to the mounting sockets. Each mounting socket includes a socket ID, which is read by a reader module of the sensor modules and used to stitch together the image data from different sensor modules. The sensor modules are powered wirelessly via induction and communicate wirelessly with the base unit via wireless transceivers and antennas.

Claims (24)

1. A security camera system, comprising:

a base unit including a mounting dome and at least one mounting socket, wherein the at least one mounting socket is arranged on the mounting dome and the mounting socket comprises an inductive power transmitter; and

at least one sensor module for attaching to the at least one mounting socket and for capturing image data, and the at least one sensor module comprises an inductive power receiver for receiving power from the inductive power transmitter of the at least one mounting socket to which the at least one sensor module is attached, and a reader module configured to read an identifier associated with the mounting socket,

wherein the at least one sensor module further comprises reader modules for detecting socket identifications engraved on the at least one mounting sockets to which the at least one sensor module are attached, and a controller of the base unit translates the socket identifications to elevation and azimuth information associated with the at least one mounting socket to which the at least one sensor module is attached.

2. The security camera system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one mounting socket is arranged on a surface of the mounting dome, which is hemispherical.

3. The security camera system of claim 2 , wherein the at least one mounting socket faces radially outward from a center of the mounting dome.

4. The security camera system of claim 2 , wherein the at least one sensor module is attached to the mounting dome such that an optical axis extends radially from a center of the mounting dome in an elevational and azimuthal direction corresponding to a position of the at least one mounting socket.

5. The security camera system of claim 4 , wherein the at least one mounting socket is a region of the surface of the mounting dome defined by a raised ridge along a perimeter of the at least one mounting socket and/or a depressed region within the perimeter of the at least one mounting socket.

6. The security camera system of claim 5 , wherein the at least one sensor module is attached to the mounting dome such that a distal exterior surface of the at least one sensor module engages with an exterior surface of the mounting dome within the perimeter of the at least one mounting socket.

7. The security camera system of claim 6 , wherein the distal exterior surface of the at least one sensor module is a same shape as the at least one mounting socket.

8. The security camera system of claim 1 , wherein when the at least one sensor module is attached to the mounting socket, the inductive power transmitter for the at least one mounting socket to which the at least one sensor module is attached comes into proximity with the inductive power receiver of the at least one sensor module.

9. The security camera system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one mounting socket includes a socket magnetic mount, and the at least one sensor module includes a module magnetic mount, and the at least one sensor module attaches to the at least one mounting socket via the socket magnetic mount and the module magnetic mount, which attract each other.

10. The security camera system of claim 1 , wherein the identifier is used to stitch the image data.

11. The security camera system of claim 10 , wherein the base unit translates the identifier to elevation and azimuth information for a field of view of the at least one sensor module, and which the elevation and azimuth information for a field of view is used to stitch the image data.

12. The security camera system of claim 10 , wherein the at least one sensor module sends the identifier to the base unit to be used to stitch the image data.

13. The security camera system of claim 1 , further comprising a protective transparent bubble secured over the at least one sensor module and the base unit, wherein an interior surface of the transparent bubble pressing against an elastic contact ring of the at least one sensor module prevents movement of the at least one sensor module.

14. The security camera system of claim 1 , wherein the identifier is a unique socket identification physically engraved on a surface of the at least one mounting socket.

15. The security camera system of claim 14 , wherein a controller of the base unit translates the socket identification to elevation and azimuth information associated with the at least one mounting socket to which the at least one sensor module is attached.

16. The security camera system of claim 15 , further comprising a network video distribution system for receiving the image data captured by the at least one sensor module and the elevation and azimuth information, and stitching the image data using the elevation and azimuth information.

17. A security camera device, comprising:

a base unit including a mounting dome and at least one mounting socket that includes a socket magnetic mount and an inductive power transmitter; and

a sensor module for attaching to the at least one mounting socket and for capturing image data, wherein the sensor module includes a module magnetic mount for attaching to the socket magnetic mount and an inductive power receiver for receiving power from the inductive power transmitter of the at least one mounting socket to which the sensor module is attached, wherein the at least one mounting socket is associated with an identifier, and the identifier for the at least one mounting socket is used to stitch the image data captured by the at least one sensor module based on unique socket identifications physically engraved on a surface of the at least one mounting socket,

wherein the sensor module further comprises reader modules for detecting the socket identifications engraved on the at least one mounting sockets to which the at least one sensor module are attached, and a controller of the base unit translates the socket identifications to elevation and azimuth information associated with the at least one mounting socket to which the sensor module is attached.

18. The security camera device of claim 17 , further comprising a protective transparent bubble secured over the at least one sensor module and base unit, wherein an interior surface of the transparent bubble pressing against elastic contact rings of the at least one sensor module prevents movement of the at least one sensor module.
