Abstract

Methods and apparatus are described. A method, implemented in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) includes monitoring a first control channel search space (SS) associated with a first normal beam set comprising a first beam set. The WTRU initiates extended monitoring and monitors, subsequent to a trigger based on a measurement by the WTRU, a control channel SS associated with an extended beam set comprising the first beam set and one or more additional beam sets. The WTRU determines a second beam set from the extended beam set. The determination is based on a received control channel beam switch command or based on a control channel SS in which a beam switch command is received. The WTRU monitors a second control channel SS associated with a second normal beam set comprising the determined second beam set.

Claims (27)

1. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), comprising:

a transceiver; and

a processor,

wherein the transceiver and the processor are configured to perform physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) monitoring using a first beam,

wherein the processor and the transceiver are further configured to detect beam failure of the first beam,

wherein the processor and the transceiver are further configured to, based on detecting the beam failure of the first beam, send a random access transmission to a base station, wherein the random access transmission indicates a request for a beam switch and a preferred second beam,

wherein the transceiver and the processor are further configured to receive signalling from the base station, wherein the signalling comprises a medium access control (MAC) command, and

wherein the transceiver and the processor are further configured to:

send an acknowledgement (ACK) to the base station, and

receive control information in a transmission on a PDCCH using the preferred second beam.

2. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the transceiver and the processor are further configured to receive a PDCCH transmission comprising an indication of PUCCH resources and timing information for sending the ACK on the PUCCH resources.

3. The WTRU of claim 2 , wherein the transceiver and the processor are further configured to send the ACK to the base station on the PUCCH resources and using the timing information provided in the indication.

4. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein:

the transceiver and the processor are further configured to perform the PDCCH monitoring in a first search space using the first beam, and

the transceiver and the processor are further configured to receive the control information in the transmission on the PDCCH using the preferred second beam by monitoring a second search space.

5. The WTRU of claim 4 , wherein the first search space and the second search space are the same search space or different search spaces.

6. A method, implemented in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

performing physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) monitoring using a first beam;

detecting beam failure of the first beam;

based on detecting failure of the first beam, sending a random access transmission to a base station, wherein the random access transmission indicates a request for a beam switch and a preferred second beam;

receiving signalling from the base station, wherein the signalling comprises a medium access control (MAC) command;

sending an acknowledgement (ACK) to the base station; and

receiving control information in a transmission on a PDCCH using the preferred second beam.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a PDCCH transmission comprising an indication of PUCCH resources and timing information for sending the ACK on the PUCCH resources.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising sending the ACK to the base station on the PUCCH resources and using the timing information provided in the indication.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the performing the PDCCH monitoring using the first beam comprises monitoring a first search space and the receiving the control information in the transmission on the PDCCH using the preferred second beam comprises monitoring a second search space.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first search space and the second search space are the same search space or different search spaces.
