Abstract

A pivot clip includes a substantially planar body defining an outside edge and an inside edge opposite the outside edge, the inside edge partially defining a notch; and a pair of arms extending from the inside edge, the notch formed between the pair of arms, the pair of arms angled relative to the substantially planar body such that the pair of arms are noncoplanar with the substantially planar body.

Claims (37)

1 . A pivot clip comprising:

a substantially planar body defining an outside edge and an inside edge opposite the outside edge, the inside edge partially defining a recessed portion; and

a pair of arms extending from the inside edge, the recessed portion formed between the pair of arms, the pair of arms angled relative to the substantially planar body such that the pair of arms are noncoplanar with the substantially planar body.

2 . The pivot clip of claim 1 , wherein the outside edge defines a cutout formed in the substantially planar body, the cutout configured to receive at least an inner portion of a bolt.

3 . The pivot clip of claim 2 , wherein a pair of prongs disposed on either side of the cutout, the pair of prongs substantially planar with the substantially planar body.

4 . The pivot clip of claim 3 , wherein each of the prongs tapers in width towards a distal end thereof.

5 . The pivot clip of claim 4 , wherein:

the substantially planar body further defines a pair of opposing lateral edges;

each of the opposing lateral edges defines an outer side of one of the pair of prongs; and

each of the opposing lateral edges tapers from one of the pair of arms to the distal end of the one of the pair of prongs.

6 . The pivot clip of claim 5 , wherein:

the pair of opposing lateral edges are symmetric about the center line; and

the cutout defines a substantially curvilinear cutout edge, the body further defines a minimal distance between the cutout edge and the inside edge.

7 . The pivot clip of claim 3 , wherein:

the cutout defines a substantially curvilinear cutout edge; and

the substantially curvilinear cutout edge defining a substantially circular arc and a pair of substantially straight segments extending from the substantially circular arc.

8 . The pivot clip of claim 7 , wherein each of the substantially straight segments defines an inner side of one of the pair of prongs.

9 . The pivot clip of claim 8 , wherein the pivot clip defines a centerline extending through a center of the cutout, and wherein each of the substantially straight segments is angled outward relative to the centerline.

10 . The pivot clip of claim 9 , wherein the substantially straight segments are symmetric about the centerline.

11 . The pivot clip of claim 10 , wherein:

the pivot clip is symmetric about the centerline; and

the centerline further extends through a center of the recessed portion.

12 . The pivot clip of claim 2 , wherein a maximum cutout width of the cutout is less than a maximum recessed portion width of the recessed portion.

13 . The pivot clip of claim 1 , wherein the pair of arms are substantially parallel.

14 . The pivot clip of claim 13 , wherein the pair of arms are angled at an obtuse angle relative to a planar surface of the substantially planar body.

15 . The pivot clip of claim 14 , wherein the pivot clip is deformable, and wherein the pivot clip is configurable in a flattened configuration under application of a force.

16 . The pivot clip of claim 15 , wherein the pivot clip comprises sheet metal.

17 . The pivot clip of claim 13 , wherein each of the arms defines a rounded tip distal to the substantially planar body.

18 . The pivot clip of claim 1 , wherein the inside edge defines a recessed portion, and

wherein the recessed portion is substantially perpendicular to the pair of arms.

19 . The pivot clip of claim 18 , wherein:

the inside edge further defines a pair of connecting portions;

each of the connecting portions extends from the recessed portion to one of the pair of arms; and

a centerline extends through a center of the recessed portion; and

each of the connecting portions is angled outward relative to the centerline.

20 . The pivot clip of claim 1 , wherein the pivot clip defines a substantially uniform thickness.

21 . The pivot clip of claim 1 , wherein the length of each arm is shorter than the length of the body.
