Abstract

A mobile electronic device detects a first virtual Bluetooth low energy (vBLE) signal from a first vBLE transceiver associated with a first merchant transaction device and a second vBLE signal from a second vBLE transceiver associated with a second merchant transaction device. An overlap region is determined including a first region corresponding to the first vBLE signal and a second region corresponding to the second vBLE signal. A checkout area is selected corresponding to the first region in response to receiving, from the first merchant transaction device, an indication of an external device receiving the second vBLE signal but not receiving the first vBLE signal. The mobile electronic device is then paired to the first merchant transaction device and a payment transaction is initiated with the first merchant transaction device.

Claims (67)

1 . A mobile electronic device, comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the processor to:

detect, from a first virtual Bluetooth low energy (vBLE) transceiver, a first vBLE signal, the first vBLE transceiver associated with a first merchant transaction device and detect, from a second vBLE transceiver, a second vBLE signal, the second vBLE transceiver associated with a second merchant transaction device more than one time within a threshold time period;

responsive to detecting the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal, determine an overlap region including a first region corresponding to the first vBLE signal and a second region corresponding to the second vBLE signal;

responsive to receiving, from the first merchant transaction device, an indication of an external device receiving the second vBLE signal but not receiving the first vBLE signal, selecting a checkout area corresponding to the first region;

pair the mobile electronic device to the first merchant transaction device; and

initiate a payment transaction with the first merchant transaction device.

2 . The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to:

automatically pair the mobile electronic device to the first merchant transaction device based at least in part on the mobile electronic device being unlocked.

3 . The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to:

responsive to pairing the mobile electronic device to the first merchant transaction device, launch a payment transaction function of a merchant application that is stored at the at least one memory, and

initiate the payment transaction via the launched payment transaction function.

4 . The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to:

transmit a query to the first merchant transaction device requesting to identify the selected checkout area, and

receive a response from the first merchant transaction device confirming the selected checkout area is associated with the first merchant transaction device.

5 . The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to:

receive a push notification from the first merchant transaction device, wherein the push notification prompts a user to launch a payment transaction function on the mobile electronic device.

6 . The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein receiving the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal more than one time within the threshold time period further includes:

receiving each of the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal a first time, and

receiving each of the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal a second time within the threshold time period.

7 . The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to:

display a prompt to confirm the selection of the checkout area corresponding to the first region.

8 . The mobile electronic device of claim 7 , wherein the at least one memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to:

receive a response to the displayed prompt, wherein the response is a confirmation identifying the selected checkout area corresponding to the first region.

9 . The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to:

determine whether the mobile electronic device has been enabled to process the payment transaction with the first merchant transaction device; and

process the payment transaction responsive to the mobile electronic device being enabled to process the payment transaction with the first merchant transaction device.

10 . A system, comprising:

a first merchant transaction device including a first virtual Bluetooth low energy (vBLE) transceiver configured to transmit a first vBLE signal;

a second merchant transaction device including a second vBLE transceiver configured to transmit a second vBLE signal;

at least one processor configured to:

receive, from a mobile electronic device, an indication of reception of the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal more than one time within a threshold time period;

identify a location of the mobile electronic device based on the received indication, wherein the location identified is an overlap region including a first region corresponding to the first vBLE signal and a second region corresponding to the second vBLE signal;

receive, from the mobile electronic device, a selection of a checkout area corresponding to the first region;

pair the mobile electronic device to first the merchant transaction device; and

process a payment transaction between the mobile electronic device and the first merchant transaction device.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

in response to receiving an indication the mobile electronic device is unlocked, automatically pair the mobile electronic device to the first merchant transaction device.

12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

receive a query from the mobile electronic device requesting to identify the checkout area, and

transmit a response to the mobile electronic device confirming the checkout area is associated with the first merchant transaction device.

13 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

transmit a push notification to the mobile electronic device, wherein the push notification prompts a user to launch a payment transaction function on the mobile electronic device.

14 . The system of claim 10 , wherein receiving the indication of reception of the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal more than one time within the threshold time period, further comprises:

receiving a first signal, from the mobile electronic device, that the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal are received, and

receiving a second signal, from the mobile electronic device, that the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal are still received.

15 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

receive, from the mobile electronic device, a confirmation identifying the selected checkout area corresponding to the first region.

16 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:

transmitting, from a first virtual Bluetooth low energy (vBLE) transceiver on a first merchant transaction device, a first vBLE signal;

transmitting, from a second vBLE transceiver on a second merchant transaction device, a second vBLE signal;

receiving, from a mobile electronic device, an indication of reception of the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal more than one time within a threshold time period;

identifying a location of the mobile electronic device based on the received indication, wherein the location identified is an overlap region including a first region corresponding to the first vBLE signal and a second region corresponding to the second vBLE signal;

receiving, from the mobile electronic device, a selection of a checkout area corresponding to the first region;

pairing the mobile electronic device to first the merchant transaction device; and

processing a payment transaction between the mobile electronic device and the first merchant transaction device.

17 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , further comprising:

in response to receiving an indication the mobile electronic device is unlocked, automatically pairing the mobile electronic device to the first merchant transaction device.

18 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , further comprising:

receiving a query from the mobile electronic device requesting to identify the checkout area, and

transmitting a response to the mobile electronic device confirming the checkout area is associated with the first merchant transaction device.

19 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , further comprising:

transmitting a push notification to the mobile electronic device, wherein the push notification prompts a user to launch a payment transaction function on the mobile electronic device.

20 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , wherein receiving the indication of reception of the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal more than one time within the threshold time period further comprises:

receiving a first signal, from the mobile electronic device, that the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal are received, and

receiving a second signal, from the mobile electronic device, that the first vBLE signal and the second vBLE signal are still received.
