Abstract

A position correcting system, method and tool for guiding a tool during its use based on its location relative to the material being worked on. Provided is a system and tool which uses its auto correcting technology to precisely rout or cut material. The invention provides a camera which is used to track the visual features of the surface of the material being cut to build a map and locate an image on that map used to reference the location of the tool for auto-correction of the cutting path.

a memory, communicatively coupled to the processor,

wherein the one or more software applications, when executed, cause the system to:

generate feature data based at least in part upon one or more images, wherein at least one of the one or more images includes data related to a first set of one or more features associated with a surface;

register a design, retrieved from the memory, to the feature data;

provide first information that causes the display to render at least a portion of a path, wherein the path is based at least in part upon the design, the portion of the path is selected based on the first image and the feature data, and the portion of the path relates to the first rig location; and

provide second information that causes the display to render an indication of a target range relative to the portion of the path, wherein the one or more motors are operable to move the working member within the target range relative to the rig.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more software applications, when executed, cause the system to:

provide third information that causes the display to render an indication of a location of the working member inside the target range.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more software applications, when executed, cause the system to:

obtain a second image, wherein the second image includes data related to a third set of the one or more features associated with the surface, the second image is captured using the camera after providing the first information, and the rig is located at a second rig location when the second image is captured; and

provide third information that causes the display to render at least a second portion of the path, wherein the second portion of the path is selected based on the second image and the feature data, and the second portion of the path relates to the second rig location.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the rig comprises a base assembly, and the rig rests on the material with a portion of the base assembly in contact with the material when the rig is located at the first rig location.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more software applications, when executed, cause the system to:

obtain the one or more images using the camera.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more features comprise one or more markers, and each marker of the one or more markers is associated with a marker ID.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the feature data comprises marker information including marker position data and marker ID for each marker.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the selection of the portion of the path is based at least in part upon comparing the second set of the one or more features with features from the first set of the one or more features.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the feature data comprises image data.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the surface is a surface of the material.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more software applications, when executed, cause the system to:

obtain the design from a remote computer system.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the path lies inside the target range, and the one or more software applications, when executed, cause the system to:

provide third information that causes at least one of the one or more motors to move the working member to a first target point on the portion of the path.

13. A computer-implemented method of guiding a user in the performance a task on a material using a working member of a rig, the rig comprising a stage configured to receive and hold the working member, and one or more motors for moving the stage, the method comprising:

generating feature data based at least in part upon one or more images, wherein at least one of the one or more images includes data related to a first set of one or more features associated with a surface;

registering a design to the feature data;

obtaining a first image, wherein the first image includes data related to a second set of the one or more features associated with the surface, the first image is captured using a camera after registering the design, and the rig is located at a first rig location when the first image is captured;

providing first information that causes a display to render at least a portion of a path, wherein the path is based at least in part upon the design, the portion of the path is selected based on the first image and the feature data, and the portion of the path relates to the first rig location; and

providing second information that causes the display to render an indication of a target range relative to the portion of the path, wherein the one or more motors are operable to move the working member within the target range relative to the rig.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

providing third information that causes the display to render an indication of a location of the working member inside the target range.

15. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

obtaining a second image, wherein the second image includes data related to a third set of the one or more features associated with the surface, the second image is captured using the camera after providing the first information, and the rig is located at a second rig location when the second image is captured; and

providing third information that causes the display to render at least a second portion of the path, wherein the second portion of the path is selected based the second image and the feature data, and the second portion of the path relates to the second rig location.

16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the portion of the path lies inside the target range, and the method further comprising:

providing third information that causes at least one of the one or more motors to move the working member to a first target point on the portion of the path.

17. Non-transitory computer readable media storing instructions to guide a user in the performance a task on a material using a working member of a rig, the rig comprising a stage configured to receive and hold the working member, and one or more motors for moving the stage, wherein the instructions, when executed by a computing system, cause the computing system to:

generate feature data based at least in part upon one or more images, wherein at least one of the one or more images includes data related to a first set of one or more features associated with a surface;

register a design to the feature data;

obtain a first image, wherein the first image includes data related to a second set of the one or more features associated with the surface, the first image is captured using a camera after registering the design, and the rig is located at a first rig location when the first image is captured;

provide first information that causes a display to render at least a portion of a path, wherein the path is based at least in part upon the design, the portion of the path is selected based on the first image and the feature data, and the portion of the path relates to the first rig location; and

provide second information that causes the display to render an indication of a target range relative to the portion of the path, wherein the one or more motors are operable to move the working member within the target range relative to the rig.
