Abstract

A method includes transmitting, by a user device associated with a user to a transportation service provider, a request for a service comprising entry into a controlled area associated with the service. The method further includes receiving, by the user device from the transportation service provider, a token to allow the user device to connect with the service and to allow entry into the controlled area associated with the service. The method further includes transmitting, by the user device to a security device associated with the transportation service provider, the token. The security device restricts access to the controlled area associated with the service. The method further includes receiving, by the user device from the security device responsive to the transmitting of the token, the access to the controlled area associated with the service.

Claims (55)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, from a user computing device associated with a user, a request for a transportation service;

assigning a provider computing device associated with a transportation vehicle to fulfill the transportation service;

determining, based on the request for the transportation service, a route to the user computing device comprising a controlled area;

transmitting, to the provider computing device, a token for the provider computing device to transmit to a security device to cause the security device to provide access to the controlled area;

determining a visual indicator for the transportation service; and

upon determining that the provider computing device has entered the controlled area and is proximate to the user computing device, transmitting a notification to the user computing device and the provider computing device to:

cause the user computing device to display the visual indicator;

cause the provider computing device to display the visual indicator; and

cause a vehicle device associated with the transportation vehicle and associated with the provider computing device to display the visual indicator for view outside of the transportation vehicle.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the visual indicator for the transportation service comprises determining a color.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the visual indicator for the transportation service comprises receiving an indication of a user selection of the visual indicator from the user computing device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the visual indicator for the transportation service comprises one or more computing devices of the transportation service determining the visual indicator.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining that a location of the user computing device is proximate to the provider computing device based on GPS data from a GPS unit of the user computing device; and

based on determining the location of the user computing device is proximate to the provider computing device, transmitting the notification to the user computing device and the provider computing device.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting the notification to the user computing device and the provider computing device to cause the user computing device to emit a sound together with the visual indicator.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting a text associated with the transportation service to a computing device attached to the transportation vehicle to display the text together with the visual indicator.

8. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a system to:

receive, from a user computing device associated with a user, a request for a transportation service;

assign a provider computing device associated with a transportation vehicle to fulfill the transportation service;

determine, based on the request for the transportation service, a route to the user computing device comprising a controlled area;

transmit, to the provider computing device, a token for the provider computing device to transmit to a security device to cause the security device to provide access to the controlled area;

determine a visual indicator for the transportation service; and

upon determining that the provider computing device has entered the controlled area and is proximate to the user computing device, transmit a notification to the user computing device and the provider computing device to:

cause the user computing device to display the visual indicator;

cause the provider computing device to display the visual indicator; and

cause a vehicle device associated with the transportation vehicle and associated with the provider computing device to display the visual indicator for view outside of the transportation vehicle.

9. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to determine the visual indicator for the transportation service by determining a color.

10. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to determine the visual indicator for the transportation service by receiving an indication of a user selection of the visual indicator from the user computing device.

11. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to determine the visual indicator for the transportation service by one or more computing devices of the transportation service determining the visual indicator.

12. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

determine that a location of the user computing device is proximate to the provider computing device based on GPS data from a GPS unit of the user computing device; and

based on determining the location of the user computing device is proximate to the provider computing device, transmit the notification to the user computing device and the provider computing device.

13. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to transmit the notification to the user computing device and the provider computing device to cause the user computing device to emit a sound together with the visual indicator.

14. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to transmit a text associated with the transportation service to a computing device attached to the transportation vehicle to display the text together with the visual indicator.

15. A system comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

receive, from a user computing device associated with a user, a request for a transportation service;

assign a provider computing device associated with a transportation vehicle to fulfill the transportation service;

determine, based on the request for the transportation service, a route to the user computing device comprising a controlled area;

transmit, to the provider computing device, a token for the provider computing device to transmit to a security device to cause the security device to provide access to the controlled area;

determine a visual indicator for the transportation service; and

upon determining that the provider computing device has entered the controlled area and is proximate to the user computing device, transmit a notification to the user computing device and the provider computing device to:

cause the user computing device to display the visual indicator;

cause the provider computing device to display the visual indicator; and

cause a vehicle device associated with the transportation vehicle and associated with the provider computing device to display the visual indicator for view outside of the transportation vehicle.

16. The system of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to determine the visual indicator for the transportation service by determining a color.

17. The system of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to determine the visual indicator for the transportation service by receiving an indication of a user selection of the visual indicator from the user computing device.

18. The system of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to determine the visual indicator for the transportation service by one or more computing devices of the transportation service determining the visual indicator.

19. The system of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

determine that a location of the user computing device is proximate to the provider computing device based on GPS data from a GPS unit of the user computing device; and

based on determining the location of the user computing device is proximate to the provider computing device, transmit the notification to the user computing device and the provider computing device.

20. The system of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to transmit the notification to the user computing device and the provider computing device to cause the user computing device to emit a sound together with the visual indicator.
