Abstract

Exemplary soap, sanitizer and lotion dispensers are disclosed herein. An exemplary dispenser includes a housing; a receptacle for receiving a container; a container of fluid comprising soap, sanitizer or lotion; a pump in fluid communication with the container; a power source; a pump coupled to a motor and pulse width modulation circuitry in circuit communication with the power source and the motor. The pulse width modulation circuitry is initially set to cause a selected dose of fluid to be dispensed at a base speed. A sensor for detecting a parameter indicative of an actual speed of a dispense of the fluid is also included. When the actual speed of the dispense of fluid is less than the base speed or greater than the base speed, the pulse width modulation circuitry adjusts the pulse width to cause the speed of a following dispense of fluid to be closer to the base speed.

Claims (64)

1. A soap, sanitizer or lotion dispenser comprising:

a reservoir;

an outlet;

a motor;

a rotary pump;

a sensor for sensing the speed of the motor;

pulse width modulation circuitry;

a processor;

a memory;

a base motor speed stored in memory;

wherein the processor causes the pulse with modulation circuitry to provide a first constant frequency signal to the motor over a dispense cycle;

wherein the processor detects the actual motor speed over the dispense cycle and stores the sensed speed in the memory;

wherein the actual motor speed is stored in the memory;

wherein the processor compares the actual motor speed to the base motor speed; and

wherein the processor adjusts the pulse width modulation circuitry to provide a second constant frequency signal to the motor to cause the motor to operate at a speed closer to the base motor speed on a subsequent dispense cycle that is separate and discrete from a prior dispense cycle.

2. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein the base motor speed is preset in the dispenser.

3. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein the processor receives the base motor speed through a communication port and stores the base motor speed in the memory.

4. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein the processor receives the base motor speed from a memory storage device and stores the base motor speed in the memory.

5. The dispenser of claim 4 wherein the memory storage device is located on the refill unit.

6. The dispenser of claim 5 wherein the memory storage device is a chip.

7. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein the subsequent dispense cycle occurs more than two dispense cycles after the first dispense cycle.

8. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein the subsequent dispense cycle occurs more than one day after the first dispense cycle.

9. The dispenser of claim 1 further comprising a reader from reading the base speed from the refill unit.

10. A soap, sanitizer or lotion dispenser comprising:

a housing;

a receptacle for receiving a container;

a container of fluid comprising soap, sanitizer or lotion;

a pump in fluid communication with the container;

a power source;

a motor;

the pump coupled to the motor;

a processor;

a memory for storing a base motor speed of a dispense;

pulse width modulation circuitry in circuit communication with the power source and the motor;

the processor configured to cause the pulse width modulation circuitry to output a first constant frequency signal to the motor to dispense a dose of fluid;

a sensor for sensing rotation of the pump or motor;

the processor receiving a signal from the sensor and determining an actual speed of the motor during the dispense of a dose of fluid and stores the actual speed in the memory;

wherein the processor compares the actual speed of the motor to the base motor speed after a preselected number of dispenses; and

wherein the processor causes the pulse width modulation circuitry to output a second constant frequency signal having a different voltage pulse width to the motor to cause a subsequent motor speed to be closer to the base motor speed.

11. The soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser of claim 10 wherein the sensor for detecting a parameter detects rotation of the pump or motor.

12. The soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser of claim 10 wherein the sensor for detecting a parameter is an optical sensor.

13. The soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser of claim 10 wherein the pulse width modulation circuitry adjusts the pulse width as a function of a preselected number of dispenses of fluid and an elapsed time period.

14. A soap, sanitizer or lotion dispenser comprising:

a housing;

a receptacle for receiving a container;

a container of fluid comprising soap, sanitizer or lotion;

a pump in fluid communication with the container;

a power source;

a motor;

the pump coupled to the motor;

a processor;

a memory;

a base dispense time period stored in memory;

pulse width modulation circuitry in circuit communication with the power source and the motor;

wherein the pulse width modulation circuitry is initially set to provide a constant frequency signal to the motor to cause a selected dose of fluid over the base dispense time period;

a sensor for detecting a parameter indicative of selected dose of fluid being dispensed;

storing an actual dispense time period in the memory, wherein the actual dispense time period is a function of the parameter indicative of the selected dose of fluid being dispensed;

wherein the processor compares the base time period and the actual time period and causes the pulse width circuitry to provide an adjusted constant frequency signal to the motor during a subsequent discrete dispense, wherein the adjusted constant frequency signal causes the subsequent discrete dispense to occur in a subsequent time period that is closer to the base time period.

15. The soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser of claim 14 wherein the sensor for detecting a parameter detects rotation of the pump or motor.

16. The soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser of claim 14 wherein the sensor for detecting a parameter is an optical sensor.

17. The soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser of claim 14 wherein the pulse width modulation circuitry adjusts the pulse width when the actual time period is outside a threshold value of the base time period.

18. The soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser of claim 17 wherein the threshold is plus or minus about 5% of the base time period.

19. The soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser of claim 14 wherein the pulse width modulation circuitry adjusts the pulse width after a preselected number of dispenses of fluid.

20. The soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser of claim 14 wherein the pulse width modulation circuitry adjusts the pulse width when after a preselected time period has elapsed.
