Abstract

For each device in a collaborative environment, qualities of system characteristics are determined. Based on the respective qualities of each device, a subset of devices is identified, including at least one device having a highest first quality and at least one device having a highest second quality, each corresponding to a different system characteristic. One or more devices from the subset of devices are then selected, based on the first quality and the second quality of each device of the subset of devices, to perform a function associated with the respective system characteristic.

Claims (54)

1. A method for requesting feedback on a function performed by a selected device in a collaborative environment setting, the method comprising:

determining a plurality of qualities of a first system characteristic that correspond to a plurality of devices in a collaborative environment setting;

identifying, based on the plurality of qualities, a highest quality of the first system characteristic and a device of the plurality of devices having the highest quality;

determining a function in the collaborative environment setting that is relevant to the first system characteristic;

instructing the device to perform the function; and

after a period of time from the instructing:

redetermining a quality of the first system characteristic of the device; and

in response to determining a change in the redetermined quality, requesting feedback about the device's performance of the function.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the change in the redetermined quality comprises an interruption in performing the function.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the redetermining comprises periodically redetermining the quality of the first system characteristic for a duration of the collaborative environment setting.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the requesting the feedback comprises causing to be displayed a notification comprising one or more selectable options to indicate the feedback.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the selectable options include a negative feedback option, the method further comprising:

in response to receiving a selection of the negative feedback option:

instructing the device to cease performing the function; and

selecting, based on the plurality of qualities, another device from the plurality of devices to perform the function.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

disabling the function relevant to the first system characteristic on at least one device different from the device instructed to perform the function.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the first system characteristic is selected from a list consisting of microphone quality, speaker quality, video capture quality, video display quality, screen resolution, power availability, internet connection quality, network bandwidth and device operating system speed.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is a first device, further comprising:

identifying a second-highest quality of the first system characteristic and a second device of the plurality of devices having the second-highest quality; and

in response to determining that the first device is deselected, instructing the second device to perform the function.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

causing to be outputted a notification that the device has been selected for performing the function.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining that the device has a highest quality of a second system characteristic; and

selecting the device to perform a second function in the collaborative environment setting that is relevant to the second system characteristic.

11. A system for requesting feedback on a function performed by a selected device in a collaborative environment setting, the system comprising:

input/output (I/O) circuitry; and

control circuitry configured to:

determine a plurality of qualities of a first system characteristic that correspond to a plurality of devices in a collaborative environment setting;

identify, based on the plurality of qualities, a highest quality of the first system characteristic and a device of the plurality of devices having the highest quality;

determine a function in the collaborative environment setting that is relevant to the first system characteristic;

instruct the device to perform the function; and

after a period of time from the instructing:

redetermine a quality of the first system characteristic of the device; and

in response to determining a change in the redetermined quality, request, via the I/O circuitry, feedback about the device's performance of the function.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the change in the redetermined quality comprises an interruption in performing the function.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry, when redetermining the quality, is configured to periodically redetermine the quality of the first system characteristic for a duration of the collaborative environment setting.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry, when requesting the feedback, is configured to cause to be displayed a notification comprising one or more selectable options to indicate the feedback.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the selectable options include a negative feedback option, and wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

in response to receiving a selection of the negative feedback option:

instruct the device to cease performing the function; and

select, based on the plurality of qualities, another device from the plurality of devices to perform the function.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

disable the function relevant to the first system characteristic on at least one device different from the device instructed to perform the function.

The system of claim 11 , wherein the first system characteristic is selected from a list consisting of microphone quality, speaker quality, video capture quality, video display quality, screen resolution, power availability, internet connection quality, network bandwidth and device operating system speed.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the device is a first device, and wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

identify a second-highest quality of the first system characteristic and a second device of the plurality of devices having the second-highest quality; and

in response to determining that the first device is deselected, instruct the second device to perform the function.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

cause to be outputted a notification that the device has been selected for performing the function.

20. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine that the device has a highest quality of a second system characteristic; and

select the device to perform a second function in the collaborative environment setting that is relevant to the second system characteristic.
