Abstract

A lighting system configured for daylight emulation. The system includes a plurality of artificial light sources for generating a daylight-emulating output light spectrum. The system also includes a controller for controlling spatial tuning of one or more of a bright spot, a reflection, and a shadow of generated artificial light that is transmitted from one or more light emitting surfaces to one or more target areas. The system further includes a networking facility that facilitates data communication with at least one external resource.

Claims (12)

1. A lighting system configured for artificial daylight emulation, comprising:

a plurality of integrated artificial light sources that generate artificial light for transmission from one or more light emitting surfaces, the plurality of integrated artificial light sources having a dynamic daylight-emulating output light spectrum so as to artificially emulate daylight;

one or more tuning control algorithms adapted for spatial tuning to manage one or more of a bright spot, a reflection, and a shadow based on a factor in an environment where the lighting system provides illumination;

a control system comprising a controller for controlling:

at least one of an intensity and a color temperature of the generated artificial light to artificially emulate a daylight spectrum that matches daylight received at a geo-location of the lighting system and a given date and time, and

via the one or more tuning control algorithms, spatial tuning of one or more of a bright spot, a reflection, and a shadow of the generated artificial light that is transmitted from the one or more light emitting surfaces to one or more target areas; and

a networking facility that facilitates data communication between the controller and at least one geo-location facility for identifying the geo-location of the lighting system.

2. The lighting system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one external geo-location facility is accessed by the controller to determine the geo-location of the lighting system.

The lighting system of claim 1 , wherein the spatial tuning of the generated artificial light is based on one or more factors selected from the group consisting of: a workspace location factor, a desktop location factor, a display screen location factor, a TV screen location factor, an art location factor, a mirror location factor, an eye-level location factor, and a reading location factor.

4. The lighting system of claim 3 , wherein the spatial tuning of the generated artificial light is based on sensor data from one or more environmental sensors.

5. The lighting system of claim 4 , wherein the one or more environmental sensors is selected from the group consisting of: light sensors, weather sensors, barometers, moisture sensors, temperature sensors, heat flux sensors, and occupancy detection and tracking sensors.

6. The lighting system of claim 4 , wherein the environmental sensor data is stored in an environment data database.
