Abstract

Systems and methods communicate an intent of an autonomous vehicle externally. In one implementation, scan data of a field around a travel path of an autonomous vehicle is obtained. The scan data is captured using at least one sensor. An object in the field around the travel path is determined from the scan data. The object is determined to be mutable or immutable. A navigation condition associated with the object is determined based on whether the object is mutable or immutable. The navigation condition is correlated to a portion of the travel path. Control operation(s) of the autonomous vehicle is determined for the portion of the travel path in response to the navigation condition. A representation link between the control operation(s) of the autonomous vehicle and the object is generated. A representation of the field around the travel path is rendered and includes the representation link.

Claims (25)

1. A method of communicating an intent of a mobile device, the method comprising:

identifying an object in a field along a travel path of a mobile device, the mobile device moving along the travel path from an origin towards a destination;

determining a navigation condition associated with the object, the navigation condition determined based on a perception by the mobile device of an effect of the object on movement of the mobile device along the travel path;

determining at least one control operation of the mobile device, the at least one control operation determined by the mobile device in response to the navigation condition;

generating a representation of one or more decisions of the mobile device, the representation of the one or more decisions of the mobile device including a representation link providing a correlation of the at least one control operation with the navigation condition; and

presenting the representation of the one or more decisions of the mobile device to an interior of the mobile device using a presentation system.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the perception by the mobile device of the effect of the object on the movement of the mobile device along the travel path is generated based on whether the object is stationary or moving.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the object includes at least one of a traffic sign or a traffic marking.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the object includes a pedestrian.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the representation includes an estimation of one or more locations of the pedestrian.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one control operation of the mobile device includes modifying the travel path.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the navigation condition is further determined based on traffic regulation data.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the object includes a location at which a traffic sign is expected to be present, the traffic sign missing from the location.

9. One or more tangible non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing computer-executable instructions for performing a computer process on a computing system, the computer process comprising:

identifying an object in a field along a travel path of a mobile device, the mobile device moving along the travel path from an origin towards a destination;

determining a navigation condition associated with the object, the navigation condition determined based on a perception by the mobile device of an effect of the object on movement of the mobile device along the travel path;

determining at least one control operation of the mobile device, the at least one control operation determined by the mobile device in response to the navigation condition; and

generating a representation of one or more decisions of the mobile device, the representation of the one or more decisions of the mobile device including a representation link providing a correlation of the at least one control operation with the navigation condition.

10. The one or more tangible non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 9 , wherein the perception by the mobile device of the effect of the object on the movement of the mobile device along the travel path is generated based on whether the object is stationary or moving.

11. The one or more tangible non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 9 , wherein the object includes at least one of a traffic sign or a traffic marking.

12. The one or more tangible non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 9 , wherein the object includes a pedestrian.

13. The one or more tangible non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 12 , wherein the representation includes an estimation of one or more locations of the pedestrian.

14. The one or more tangible non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 9 , wherein the at least one control operation of the mobile device includes at least one of modifying the travel path, changing speed, or stopping.

15. The one or more tangible non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 9 , wherein the navigation condition is further determined based on traffic regulation data.

16. The one or more tangible non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 9 , wherein the object includes a location at which a traffic sign is expected to be present, the traffic sign missing from the location.
