Abstract

A method for implanting a medical device for implantation in a mammal joint. The method comprising the steps of creating an opening reaching from outside of the human body into the joint, providing said artificial contacting surface to said joint, fixating the artificial contacting surface to the joint, implanting said reservoir in the human body, and lubricating the artificial contacting surface with use of a lubricating fluid contained in said reservoir.

Claims (33)

1 .- 88 . (canceled)

89 . A method of implanting a medical device in a human patient, wherein the medical device comprises an artificial contacting surface for a joint and at least one inlet configured to receive a lubricating fluid from a reservoir,

said method comprising the steps of:

a. creating an opening reaching from outside of the human body into the joint,

b. providing said artificial contacting surface to said joint,

c. fixating the artificial contacting surface to the joint,

d. implanting said reservoir in the human body, and

e. lubricating said artificial contacting surface with use of a lubricating fluid contained in said reservoir.

90 . The method according to claim 89 , wherein the step of lubricating said artificial contacting surface with use of a lubricating fluid contained in said reservoir, comprises implanting an operation device transporting said fluid from said reservoir to said artificial contacting surface.

91 . The method according to claim 90 , wherein the step of lubricating said artificial contacting surface with use of a lubricating fluid contained in said reservoir, comprises providing an energy source for powering said operation device.

92 . The method according to claim 91 , wherein the step of lubricating said artificial contacting surface with use of a lubricating fluid contained in said reservoir, comprising powering said operation device using said energy source.

93 . The method according to claim 89 , wherein the step of implanting a reservoir in the human body, comprises implanting an operation device being integrated in said reservoir allowing the step of lubricating said artificial contacting surface with use of a lubricating fluid contained in said reservoir, using said operation device transporting said fluid from said reservoir to said artificial contacting surface.

94 . The method according to claim 89 , wherein the step of implanting said reservoir in the human body comprises the step of implanting said reservoir at least partially inside of a bone of the patient.

95 . The method according to claim 94 , wherein the step of implanting said reservoir at least partially inside of a bone of the human body comprises the step of implanting said reservoir at least partially inside of the femoral bone of the patient.

96 . The method according to claim 94 , wherein the step of implanting said reservoir at least partially inside of a bone of the human body comprises the step of implanting said reservoir at least partially inside of the tibia bone of the patient.

97 . The method according to claim 94 , wherein the step of implanting said reservoir at least partially inside of a bone of the human body comprises the step of implanting said reservoir at least partially inside of the pelvic bone of the patient.

98 . The method according to claim 89 , wherein the step of creating an opening reaching from outside of the human body into a joint, comprises the step of creating an opening in the pelvic bone, from the abdominal side of the pelvic bone.

99 . The method according to claim 89 , wherein the step of providing said artificial contacting surface, comprises the step of providing said artificial contacting surface, from the abdominal side of the pelvic bone.

100 . The method according to claim 89 , wherein the step of implanting said reservoir in the human body, comprises the step of implanting said reservoir subcutaneously.

101 . The method according to claim 100 , wherein the step of implanting said reservoir subcutaneously, comprises the step of implanting said reservoir in at least one of the regions of the patient selected from a group of regions consisting of:

a. the abdominal region,

b. the inguinal region,

c. the pelvic region,

d. the thigh region, and

e. the calf region.

102 . The method according to claim 89 , further comprising the step of implanting an injection port for filling of said reservoir.

103 . The method according to claim 102 , wherein the step of implanting said injection port comprises the step of implanting said injection port in connection with bone.

104 . A method of lubricating an implantable medical device, said medical device comprising an artificial contacting surface adapted to carry weight in a joint of a patient, said artificial contacting surface comprises at least one channel for transporting of a lubricating fluid, said method comprises the steps of:

a. implanting said medical device in a joint of the human patient,

b. implanting a conduit for to be connected to said medical device

c. implanting an operation device for transporting a lubricating fluid inside said conduit

d. implanting a reservoir adapted to hold a lubricating fluid, and

e. at least postoperatively transporting, by said operation device, said lubricating fluid from said reservoir to said artificial contacting surface in said conduit and further through said channel in said artificial contacting surface, thereby applying said lubricating fluid to said artificial contacting surface.
