Abstract

Systems and methods for identifying objects displayed in a media asset are provided. First and second parental control restrictions associated with first and second users within a perceivable range of a user equipment device are retrieved. The first parental control restriction enables access to content associated with a first authorization level and the second parental control restriction enables access to content associated with a second authorization level. A common authorization level that does not violate the first and second parental control restrictions is identified. A media asset that satisfies the common authorization level is presented to the first and second users in a first form. Supplemental content associated with the media asset that violates the second parental control restriction but does not violate the first parental control restriction is selected. The supplemental content is presented in a second form while the media asset is being presented in the first form.

Claims (37)

1. A method comprising:

receiving a request for display of a media asset;

selecting supplemental content related to the media asset;

determining that the supplemental content in its original form violates a parental control restriction on a user device; and

in response to the determination:

determining that a second form of the same supplemental content, which also violates the parental control restriction on the user device, is not understood by a user of the user device; and

modifying the supplemental content from its original form to the second form.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

implementing facial recognition to identify the user when the user is within a threshold range of user device; and

based on the identification of the user, accessing a profile associated with the user to determine the parental control restriction on the user device.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the original form is an audible form and the second form is a textual form.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein modifying the supplemental content comprises replacing a portion of audio content that violates the parental control restriction with the textual form.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the original form is in a first language and the second form is in a second language that is not understood by the user.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein modifying the supplemental content comprises replacing a portion of audio content that is in the first language and violates the parental control restriction with the second language.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the original form is in a video format and the second form is in a textual format.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the original form is a video that can be perceived without an optical device and the second form is a video that requires an optical device to be perceived.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the original form is a 2D video and the second form is a 3D video.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the supplemental content violates the parental control restriction comprising determining whether the supplemental content violates a maximum allowable parent control restriction.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein modifying the supplemental content is performed in real-time.

12. A system comprising:

one or more control circuitries configured to:

receive a request for display of a media asset;

select supplemental content related to the media asset;

determine that the supplemental content in its original form violates a parental control restriction on a user device; and

in response to the determination:

determine that a second form of the same supplemental content, which also violates the parental control restriction on the user device, is not understood by a user of the user device; and

modify the supplemental content from its original form to the second form.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the one or more control circuitries are further configured to:

implement facial recognition to identify the user when the user is within a threshold range of user device; and

based on the identification of the user, access a profile associated with the user to determine the parental control restriction on the user device.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein modifying the supplemental content comprises the one or more control circuitries configured to replace a portion of audio content that violates the parental control restriction with the textual form.

15. The system of claim 12 , wherein the original form is in a first language and the second form is in a second language that is not understood by the user.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein modifying the supplemental content comprises the one or more control circuitries configured to replace a portion of audio content that is in the first language and violates the parental control restriction with the second language.

17. The system of claim 12 , wherein the original form is in a video format and the second form is in a textual format.

18. The system of claim 12 , wherein determining that the supplemental content violates the parental control restriction comprising the one or more control circuitries further configured to determine whether the supplemental content violates a maximum allowable parent control restriction.

19. The system of claim 12 , wherein modifying the supplemental content is performed by the one or more control circuitries in real-time.

20. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, determining that the user of the user device will not be exposed to unsuitable content when consuming the second form of the same supplemental content, which violates the parental control restriction on the user device, wherein the determination that the user of the user device will not be exposed to unsuitable content when consuming the second form is based on the determination that the second form of the same supplemental content is not understood by the user.
