Abstract

Systems and methods for generating a notification when activity exceeds an authorization level are provided. A determination is made as to whether content currently being presented to a first user exceeds an authorization level associated with the first user. In response to determining that the content exceeds the authorization level, the content being presented is monitored to determine whether the content meets a criterion. An amount of time the content being presented meets the criterion is measured. In response to determining that the amount of time exceeds a threshold, a communication is transmitted to a second user indicating that the content currently being presented to the first user exceeds the authorization level.

Claims (43)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving a user interface selection of:

a specified profile,

a parental control category for monitoring access to content, and

a match ratio for the monitoring, wherein the match ratio is a ratio indicative of a match between: (a) characteristics of accessed content, and (b) the at least one user interface selected parental control category;

tracking an amount of time when a device associated with the specified profile plays content that matches the parental control category based on the match ratio; and

in response to determining that the tracked amount of time exceeds a particular time value, performing an action related to the specified profile.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the tracking the amount of time when the device associated with the specified profile plays content that matches the parental control category based on the match ratio comprises:

computing a Euclidian distance between an attribute or a characteristic of the accessed content and the user-selected parental control category.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the parental control category includes at least one of a genre, a scene type, or a rating.

4 . The method of claim 1 , comprising:

for association with the specified profile, receiving selection of a time limit restriction for the access to the content;

determining whether an elapsed time of the accessed content exceeds the time limit restriction; and

in response to the tracking the amount of time when the device associated with the specified profile plays content that matches the parental control category based on the match ratio, and in response to determining that the elapsed time of the accessed content exceeds the time limit restriction, performing the action related to the specified profile.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the performing of the action related to the specified profile occurs without further input.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the action includes at least one of restricting access to the content, pausing the content, generating a notification to be presented for display, or generating an option to establish a voice or video call.

7 . The method of claim 1 , comprising:

for association with the specified profile, receiving selection of one of a plurality of logical operators for control of a plurality of control categories, wherein the parental control category is one of the plurality of control categories.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the selection of the parental control category for monitoring the access to the content is based on output from a voice recognition engine configured to perform a voice recognition process to identify a user and determine an authorization level of the identified user.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the performing of the action related to the specified profile occurs without further input.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the performing of the action related to the specified profile occurs after intervening inputs or actions occur.

11 . A system comprising:

circuitry configured to:

receive user interface selection of:

a specified profile,

a parental control category for monitoring access to content, and

a match ratio for the monitoring, wherein the match ratio is a ratio indicative of a match between: (a) characteristics of accessed content, and (b) the at least one user interface selected parental control category;

track an amount of time when a device associated with the specified profile plays content that matches the parental control category based on the match ratio; and

in response to determining that the tracked amount of time exceeds a particular time value, perform an action related to the specified profile.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the circuitry configured to track the amount of time when the device associated with the specified profile plays content that matches the parental control category based on the match ratio is configured to:

compute a Euclidian distance between an attribute or a characteristic of the accessed content and the user-selected parental control category.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the parental control category includes at least one of a genre, a scene type, or a rating.

14 . The system of claim 11 , the circuitry configured to:

for association with the specified profile, receive selection of a time limit restriction for the access to the content;

determine whether an elapsed time of the accessed content exceeds the time limit restriction; and

in response to the tracking the amount of time when the device associated with the specified profile plays content that matches the parental control category based on the match ratio, and in response to determining that the elapsed time of the accessed content exceeds the time limit restriction, perform the action related to the specified profile.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the performing of the action related to the specified profile occurs without further input.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the action includes at least one of restricting access to the content, pausing the content, generating a notification to be presented for display, or generating an option to establish a voice or video call.

17 . The system of claim 11 , the circuitry configured to:

for association with the specified profile, receive selection of one of a plurality of logical operators for control of a plurality of control categories, wherein the parental control category is one of the plurality of control categories.

The system of claim 11 , wherein the selection of the parental control category for monitoring the access to the content is based on output from a voice recognition engine configured to perform a voice recognition process to identify a user and determine an authorization level of the identified user.

19 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the performing of the action related to the specified profile occurs without further input.

20 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the performing of the action related to the specified profile occurs after intervening inputs or actions occur.
