Abstract

A system and method to obtain activity data for an activity of a user, the activity data corresponding to multiple parameters. A set of threshold criteria that corresponds to a multi-parameter activity zone is retrieved, where the set of threshold criteria includes an effort threshold criteria related to a heart rate of the user. An effort of the user is determined based on the activity data. A resistance experienced by the user is determined, where the resistance includes a measure representing at least one of stride rate, step rate, steps, or cadence. A posture of the user is determined. Based on the set of threshold criteria corresponding to the multi-parameter activity zone, an instance of the activity is classified as an activity type based on the resistance experienced by the user, the effort of the user, and the posture of the user.

Claims (42)

1. A method comprising:

obtaining activity data for an activity of a user, the activity data corresponding to multiple parameters;

retrieving a set of threshold criteria that corresponds to a multi-parameter activity zone, wherein the set of threshold criteria comprises:

an effort threshold criteria related to a heart rate of the user; and

a user threshold criteria based in part on at least one of: historic data associated with the user, a planned threshold criteria for the user, or a maximum threshold of the user, wherein the user threshold criteria is determined in view of at least one of: a ventilation threshold of the user, a lactate threshold of the user, an oxygen uptake test of the user, a conconi threshold of the user, or a maximum cardiovascular threshold of the user;

determining an effort of the user based on the activity data;

determining a resistance experienced by the user, wherein the resistance comprises a measure representing at least one of stride rate, step rate, steps taken by the user, or cadence;

determining a posture of the user; and

classifying, based on the set of threshold criteria corresponding to the multi-parameter activity zone, an instance of the activity as an activity type based on the resistance experienced by the user, the effort of the user, and the posture of the user,

wherein the method is executed by one or more processors.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the measure represents the steps of the user, and wherein the steps identify one of: non-specific movement by the user, inactivity of the user, a stationary position of the user, the user is walking, or the user is running.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the measure represents the steps of the user, and wherein the steps identify non-specific movement of the user indicating the user is not walking, running, or in a stationary position.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the posture of the user is one of prone or upright.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the measure represents the steps of the user, and wherein the steps identify one of: inactivity of the user or a stationary position of the user, and wherein the posture of the user is one of a resting position, prone, or upright.

6. A system comprising:

a memory; and

a processor communicably coupled to the memory, the processor to:

obtain activity data for an activity of a user, the activity data corresponding to multiple parameters;

retrieve a set of threshold criteria that corresponds to a multi-parameter activity zone, wherein the set of threshold criteria comprises:

an effort threshold criteria related to a heart rate of the user; and

a user threshold criteria based in part on at least one of: historic data associated with the user, a planned threshold criteria for the user, or a maximum threshold of the user, wherein the user threshold criteria is determined in view of at least one of: a ventilation threshold of the user, a lactate threshold of the user, an oxygen uptake test of the user, a conconi threshold of the user, or a maximum cardiovascular threshold of the user;

determine an effort of the user based on the activity data;

determine a resistance experienced by the user, wherein the resistance comprises a measure representing at least one of stride rate, step rate, steps taken by the user, or cadence;

determine a posture of the user; and

classify, based on the set of threshold criteria corresponding to the multi-parameter activity zone, an instance of the activity as an activity type based on the resistance experienced by the user, the effort of the user, and the posture of the user.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the measure represents the steps of the user, and wherein the steps identify one of: non-specific movement by the user, inactivity of the user, a stationary position of the user, the user is walking, or the user is running.

8. The system of claim 6 , wherein the measure represents the steps of the user, and wherein the steps identify non-specific movement of the user indicating the user is not walking, running, or in a stationary position.

9. The system of claim 6 , wherein the posture of the user is one of prone or upright.

10. The system of claim 6 , wherein the measure represents the steps of the user, and wherein the steps identify one of: inactivity of the user or a stationary position of the user, and wherein the posture of the user is one of a resting position, prone, or upright.

11. A non-transitory computer readable media storing instructions which, when executed, cause a processor to perform operations comprising:

obtaining activity data for an activity of a user, the activity data corresponding to multiple parameters;

retrieving a set of threshold criteria that corresponds to a multi-parameter activity zone, wherein the set of threshold criteria comprises:

an effort threshold criteria related to a heart rate of the user; and

a user threshold criteria based in part on at least one of: historic data associated with the user, a planned threshold criteria for the user, or a maximum threshold of the user, wherein the user threshold criteria is determined in view of at least one of: a ventilation threshold of the user, a lactate threshold of the user, an oxygen uptake test of the user, a conconi threshold of the user, or a maximum cardiovascular threshold of the user;

determining an effort of the user based on the activity data;

determining a resistance experienced by the user, wherein the resistance comprises a measure representing at least one of stride rate, step rate, steps taken by the user, or cadence;

determining a posture of the user; and

classifying, based on the set of threshold criteria corresponding to the multi-parameter activity zone, an instance of the activity as an activity type based on the resistance experienced by the user, the effort of the user, and the posture of the user.

12. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 11 , wherein the measure represents the steps of the user, and wherein the steps identify one of: non-specific movement by the user, inactivity of the user, a stationary position of the user, the user is walking, or the user is running.

13. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 11 , wherein the measure represents the steps of the user, and wherein the steps identify non-specific movement of the user indicating the user is not walking, running, or in a stationary position.

14. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 11 , wherein the posture of the user is one of prone or upright.

15. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 11 , wherein the measure represents the steps of the user, and wherein the steps identify one of: inactivity of the user or a stationary position of the user, and wherein the posture of the user is one of a resting position, prone, or upright.
