Abstract

An automated litter device having: a) a chamber configured to hold litter to allow an animal to enter and excrete waste; b) a waste drawer in communication with the chamber and configured to receive the waste; c) one or more sensors configured to detect one or more conditions of the device and transmit one or more signals related to the one or more conditions; d) a controller in communication with the one or more sensors which is adapted to receive the one or more signals, wherein the controller is configured to determine one or more positions of the chamber based on the one or more signals received from the one or more sensors and interpret the one or more signals as one or more status signals; e) a communication module in communication with the controller and adapted to communicate with a user interface via a network to transmit the one or more status signals to the user interface, receive one or more instruction signals via the user interface, or both; wherein the user interface is adapted to transmit the one or more instruction signals to the controller to change at least one of the one or more conditions of the device.

Claims (79)

1. A system for monitoring and controlling a device which is an automated litter device, the system comprising:

a) the automated litter device which includes:

i) a chamber configured to hold a litter and to allow an animal to enter and excrete a waste;

ii) a waste receptacle in communication with the chamber and configured to receive the waste;

iii) one or more sensors configured to detect one or more conditions of the automated litter device and transmit one or more signals related to the one or more conditions;

iv) a controller in communication with the one or more sensors which is adapted to receive the one or more signals and interpret the one or more signals as or more status signals of the automated litter device;

v) a communication module in communication with the controller, and wherein the communication module is a wireless communication module;

b) a user interface remote from the automated litter device, including an input scree, and in wireless communication with the communication module via a network;

wherein the user interface is configured to display one or more statuses associated with the one or more status signals and receive one or more instructions from a user; and

wherein the communication module is adapted to transmit, via the network, the one or more status signals to the user interface; receive, via the network, one or more instruction signals associated with one more instructions from the user interface; or both.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is adapted to transmit the one or more instructions wirelessly to the controller via the network to change at least one of the one or more conditions of the automated litter device.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the system includes one or more other processors located remotely from the controller and the user interface within the network;

wherein the one or more status signals are first transmitted to the one or more other processors before being transmitted to the user interface; and

wherein the one or more instructions are first transmitted to the one or more other processors before being transmitted to the controller.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the user interface is a mobile computing device, a non-mobile computing device, or both.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the user interface is the mobile computing device; and

wherein the mobile computing device includes a mobile phone, a tablet, a mobile computer, or a combination thereof.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is configured to display one or more instruction buttons on the input screen and the one or more instruction buttons are associated with the one or more instructions; and

wherein the one or more instructions are converted into the one or more instruction signals by one or more processors within the network and the one or more instruction signals instruct the controller to initiate and execute one or more operations of the automated litter device.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the one or more operations include one or more cleaning cycles, one or more reset cycles, one or more sleep modes, one or more wait modes, one or more light modes, one or more training modes, one or more power modes, or any combination thereof.

8. The device of claim 6 , wherein the one or more instruction buttons include a cleaning cycle instruction button;

wherein the cleaning cycle instruction button is configured to receive a cleaning cycle instruction from the user; and

wherein upon receiving the cleaning cycle instruction, the user interface is configured to transmit the cleaning cycle instruction to the controller via the network and/or the communication module such that the controller initiates a cleaning cycle of the automated litter device.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the cleaning cycle of the automated litter device includes rotation of the chamber about a rotational axis of the chamber.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the rotational axis is on a tilt such that the rotational axis is not parallel to a rest surface upon which the automated litter device rests on.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the chamber includes a waste opening; and

wherein during the cleaning cycle the chamber rotates about the rotational axis such that the waste opening aligns with the waste receptacle such that the waste in the chamber transfers into the waste receptacle through the waste opening.

12. The system of claim 6 , wherein a cleaning cycle algorithm is stored within one or more non-transient storage mediums and is accessible by the one or more processors; and

wherein the one or more non-transient storage mediums and the one or more processors are part of the controller, are located remote from the automated litter device and in communication with the controller via the communication module and the network, or both.

13. The system of claim 6 , wherein the one or more instruction buttons include a sleep mode button;

wherein the sleep mode button is configured to receive a sleep mode instruction from the user; and

wherein upon receiving the sleep mode instruction, the user interface is configured to transmit the sleep mode instruction to the controller via the network and/or the communication module such that the controller prevents one or more cleaning cycles from being executed over a predetermined period of time.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the predetermined period of time includes a start time, an end time, a duration of time, or any combination thereof.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the user interface is configured to receive the predetermined period of time from the user via the input screen.

16. The system of claim 6 , wherein the one or more instruction buttons include a wait mode button;

wherein the wait mode button is configured to receive a wait mode instruction from the user; and

wherein upon receiving the wait mode instruction, the user interface is configured to transmit the wait mode instruction to the controller via the network and/or the communication module such that the controller delays one or more cleaning cycles from being executed over a predetermined period of time after the animal exits the chamber.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the user interface is configured to receive the predetermined period of time from the user via the input screen.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the automated litter device includes one or more mass sensors configured to monitor a mass of the animal when in the chamber.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the one or more mass sensors are located at a base of the automated litter device.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the one or more mass sensors are part of one or more feet of the base.

21. The device of claim 1 , wherein the wireless communication module comprises a Wi-Fi transmitter, a Bluetooth transmitter, an infrared transmitter, a radio frequency transmitter, an IEEE 802.15.4 compliant transmitter, or any combination thereof.

22. The device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more sensors include one or more waste sensors configured to detect a level of fullness of the waste receptacle, and the one or more signals include one or more waste level signals from the one or more waste sensors to the controller;

wherein the controller is adapted to relay the one or more waste level signals to the user interface via the network and/or the communication module; and

wherein the user interface is configured to notify the user via the input screen if the waste receptacle is full based on the one or more waste level signals relayed from the one or more waste sensors.

23. A method of operating an automated litter device via a user interface remote from the automated litter device comprising the steps of:

a) receiving an input from a user via the user interface to change one or more conditions of the automated litter device, wherein the user interface is located remote from the automated litter device and in wireless communication with a communication module of the automated litter device over a network, and wherein the input includes one or more instructions which instruct the automated litter device to perform one or more operations;

b) sending the one or more instructions to the communication module, wherein the communication module is a wireless communication module and in communication with a controller;

c) sending one or more instruction signals associated with the one or more instructions from the communication module to the controller, wherein the controller includes one or more processors for analyzing the one or more instruction signals;

d) automatically initiating the one or more operations of the automated litter device by the one or more processors of the controller based on the one or more instruction signals to change the one or more conditions of the automated litter device;

wherein the automated litter device includes:

i) a chamber configured to hold a litter to allow an animal to enter and excrete a waste;

ii) a waste receptacle in communication with the chamber and configured to receive the waste;

iii) one or more sensors configured to detect the one or more conditions of the automated litter device and transmit one or more signals related to the one or more conditions;

iv) the controller which is configured to receive the one or more signals and interpret the one or more signals as one or more status signals; and

v) the communication module which is configured to transmit the one or more status signals to the user interface via the network and/or directly.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the one or more operations include: one or more cleaning cycles, one or more sleep modes, one or more wait modes, one or more light modes, one or more lockout modes, one or more training modes, one or more power modes, or a combination thereof.

25. The method of claim 23 , wherein the one or more processors are located remotely from the automated litter device and the user interface and in communication via the network; and

wherein the one or more instructions are transmitted to the one or more processors from the user interface prior to being transmitted to the communication module and/or the controller.

26. The method of claim 23 , wherein the user interface is a mobile computing device; and

wherein the mobile computing device includes a mobile phone, a tablet, a mobile computer, or a combination thereof which includes a display screen.

27. The method of claim 26 , wherein the user interface is configured to display one or more instruction buttons on the display screen and the one or more instruction buttons are associated with the one or more instructions.

28. The method of claim 27 , wherein the one or more instruction buttons include a cleaning cycle instruction button;

wherein the receiving of the input includes the user selecting the cleaning cycle instruction button on the display screen;

wherein the one or more instruction signals includes one or more cleaning cycle instruction signals;

wherein the one or more operations of the automated litter device includes one or more cleaning cycles; and

wherein the one or more cleaning cycles includes the chamber rotating about a rotational axis of the chamber so that the waste transfers from an interior of the chamber into the waste receptacle via a waste opening of the chamber.

29. The method of claim 27 , wherein the one or more instruction buttons include a sleep mode button;

wherein the receiving of the input includes the user selecting the sleep mode button on the display screen;

wherein the one or more instruction signals includes one or more sleep mode instruction signals;

wherein the one or more operations of the automated litter device includes one or more sleep modes;

wherein the one or more sleep modes prevent one or more cleaning cycles from being executed over a predetermined period of time; and

wherein the predetermined period of time includes a start time, an end time, a duration of time, or any combination thereof.

30. The method of claim 29 , wherein the method includes the user inputting the predetermined period of time into the user interface.

31. The method of claim 27 , wherein the one or more instruction buttons include a wait mode button;

wherein the receiving of the input includes the user selecting the wait mode button on the display screen;

wherein the one or more instruction signals include one or more wait mode instruction signals;

wherein one or more wait modes delay one or more cleaning cycles from being executed over a predetermined period of time after the animal exits the chamber; and

wherein the method includes the user inputting the predetermined period of time into the user interface.
