Abstract

A medication delivery system including a holding chamber having an input and an output end, a backpiece coupled to the input end of the holding chamber and having an electrical circuit and an opening. An MDI incudes an insert portion moveable between an engaged position wherein the insert portion is received in the opening and a disengaged position wherein the insert portion is removed from the opening, and at least one contact that completes the electrical circuit when the insert portion is in the engaged position.

Claims (23)

1. An identification accessory for coupling an MDI to a holding chamber comprising:

a faceplate having an opening shaped to receive an insert portion of the MDI, wherein the faceplate comprises a pair of spaced apart magnets electrically connected to a passive and/or active electronic component, and wherein the magnets are adapted to engage a backpiece component of the holding chamber; and

an adapter releasably coupled to the faceplate, the adapter comprising a retention member shaped to engage the MDI.

2. The identification accessory of claim 1 wherein the opening comprises a first opening, and wherein the adapter comprises a U-shaped yoke defining a second opening aligned with the first opening.

3. The identification accessory of claim 2 wherein the second opening of the yoke comprises a downwardly opening mouth.

4. The identification accessory of claim 2 wherein the second opening defines a first axis, and wherein the adapter further comprises a ring shaped and configured to receive a chimney portion of the MDI, wherein the ring defines a second axis extending transverse to the first axis.

5. The identification accessory of claim 1 wherein one of the adapter and/or faceplate comprises one or more tabs releasably engaged with notches on the other of the adapter and/or faceplate.

6. The identification accessory of claim 1 wherein the magnets define spaced apart electrical contacts.

7. The identification accessory of claim 1 wherein the faceplate comprises a first pair of spaced apart electrical contacts.

8. An identification accessory for coupling an MDI to a holding chamber comprising:

a faceplate having an opening shaped to receive an insert portion of the MDI, wherein the faceplate comprises a pair of spaced apart magnets electrically connected to a passive and/or active electronic component, wherein the passive electronic component comprises a resistor; and

an adapter releasably coupled to the faceplate, the adapter comprising a retention member shaped to engage the MDI.

9. An identification accessory for coupling an MDI to a holding chamber comprising:

a faceplate having an opening shaped to receive an insert portion of the MDI, wherein the faceplate comprises a first pair of spaced apart electrical contacts; and

an adapter releasably coupled to the faceplate, the adapter comprising a retention member shaped to engage the MDI; and

a backpiece configured to be coupled to the holding chamber, wherein the backpiece comprises an electrical circuit, a second pair of spaced apart electrical contacts and an opening shaped to receive the insert portion of the MDI, wherein the first and second pairs of electrical contacts are moveable between a disengaged position and an engaged position, wherein the first and second pairs of electrical contacts complete the electrical circuit when moved to the engaged position.

10. The identification accessory of claim 9 wherein at least one of the first and second pair of contacts comprises a pair of magnets, and wherein the faceplate is magnetically coupled to the backpiece when the first and second pairs of electrical contacts are moved to the engaged position.

11. The identification accessory of claim 9 wherein the backpiece comprises a ring component shaped and dimensioned to receive an input end of the holding chamber.

12. The identification accessory of claim 11 wherein the backpiece further comprises a shroud portion extending forwardly from the ring component.

13. The identification accessory of claim 11 wherein the backpiece comprises a microphone coupled to the ring component.

14. The identification accessory of claim 9 wherein the backpiece comprises a housing.

15. The identification accessory of claim 14 further comprising a USB charger, an internal storage, a processor, a battery and/or a flow sensor disposed in the housing.

16. The identification accessory of claim 9 wherein the backpiece comprises a visual indicator adapted to provide feedback to a user.
