Abstract

Disclosed is a prosthetic augment designed to reconstruct a lateral tuberosity shape of a humerus in a subject having proximal bone loss that includes a humeral adapter tray configured to connect a humeral liner of a reverse shoulder prosthesis to a humeral stem of the reverse shoulder prosthesis and an augment member having a first face adapted for contacting the humeral stem of the reverse shoulder prosthesis and a second face adapted for contacting an underside of a muscle, wherein at least a portion of the second face includes a bulbous surface adapted to alter a wrapping angle of the muscle around the lateral tuberosity, and wherein the second face has a radius of curvature selected from one of a constant radius of curvature or a variable radius of curvature.

Claims (49)

1 . A kit, comprising:

a. a humeral stem configured to be positioned in a humerus of a patient; and

b. a plurality of prosthetic augments,

wherein each individual prosthetic augment within the plurality comprises:

a humeral adapter tray portion,

wherein the humeral tray portion comprises:

a first face configured to be connected to a humeral liner, and

a second face opposite the second face and configured to be connected to the humeral stem so as to connect the humeral liner to the humeral stem, and

an augment portion configured to reconstruct a lateral tuberosity shape of the humerus,

wherein the augment portion is connected to the humeral adapter tray portion and extends from a proximal end of the humeral adapter tray portion in a lateral direction so as to be configured to extend around a proximal end of the humerus when the individual prosthetic augment is assembled with the humeral stem and the humeral stem is positioned in the humerus, and

wherein the augment portion comprises:

a first face configured to face toward the humeral stem when the individual prosthetic augment is assembled with the humeral stem, and

a second face configured to contact an underside of a muscle,

wherein at least a portion of the second face includes a bulbous surface adapted to alter a wrapping angle of the muscle around the lateral tuberosity to a desired degree, and

wherein the second face includes at least one of a constant radius of curvature or a variable radius of curvature.

2 . The kit of claim 1 , wherein each individual prosthetic augment within the plurality of prosthetic augments is monolithic.

3 . The kit of claim 1 , wherein the humeral adapter tray portion and the augment portion of each individual prosthetic augment within the plurality of prosthetic augments are modular and are configured to lockingly engage each other.

4 . The kit of claim 1 , further comprising a humeral adapter plate, a humeral liner, a glenosphere and a glenoid plate, and

wherein the humeral adapter tray portion is configured to attach to the humeral adapter plate.

5 . The kit of claim 1 , wherein each individual prosthetic augment within the plurality of prosthetic augments further comprises suture bores for soft tissue fixation.

6 . The kit of claim 1 , wherein each individual prosthetic augment within the plurality of prosthetic augments is coated to facilitate muscle reattachment.

7 . The kit of claim 1 , wherein an individual augment portion within the plurality of prosthetic augments is further configured to cover at least one of an anterior side of the lateral tuberosity or a posterior side of the lateral tuberosity.

8 . The kit of claim 1 , wherein the humeral stem is a revision humeral stem.

9 . The kit of claim 1 , wherein the humeral stem is a fracture humeral stem.

10 . A prosthetic device,

wherein the prosthetic device is modular and comprises:

a. a humeral stem configured to be positioned in a humerus of a patient; and

b. a prosthetic augment, comprising

a humeral adapter tray portion, wherein the humeral tray portion comprises:

a first face configured to be connected to a humeral liner, and

a second face opposite the second face and configured to be connected to the humeral stem so as to connect the humeral liner to the humeral stem, and

an augment portion configured to reconstruct a lateral tuberosity shape of the humerus,

wherein the augment portion is connected to the humeral adapter tray portion and extends from a proximal end of the humeral adapter tray portion in a lateral direction so as to be configured to extend around a proximal end of the humerus when the individual prosthetic augment is assembled with the humeral stem and the humeral stem is positioned in the humerus, and

wherein the augment portion comprises:

a first face configured to face toward the humeral stem when the prosthetic augment is assembled with the humeral stem, and

a second face configured to contact an underside of a muscle,

wherein at least a portion of the second face includes a bulbous surface adapted to alter a wrapping angle of the muscle around the lateral tuberosity, and

wherein the second face includes at least one of a constant radius of curvature or a variable radius of curvature.

11 . The prosthetic device of claim 10 , wherein the prosthetic augment is monolithic.

12 . The prosthetic device of claim 10 , wherein the humeral adapter tray portion and the augment portion are modular and are configured to lockingly engage each other.

13 . The prosthetic device of claim 10 , further comprising a humeral adapter plate, a humeral liner, a glenosphere and a glenoid plate, and

wherein the humeral adapter tray is configured to attach to the humeral adapter plate.

14 . The prosthetic device of claim 10 , wherein the prosthetic augment further comprises suture bores for soft tissue fixation.

15 . The prosthetic device of claim 10 , wherein the prosthetic augment is coated to facilitate muscle reattachment.

16 . The prosthetic device of claim 10 , wherein the augment portion is further configured to cover at least one of an anterior side of the lateral tuberosity or a posterior side of the lateral tuberosity.

17 . The prosthetic device of claim 10 , wherein the humeral stem is a revision humeral stem.

18 . The prosthetic device of claim 10 , wherein the humeral stem is a fracture humeral stem.

19 . The kit of claim 7 , wherein the individual augment portion within the plurality of prosthetic augments is configured to reconstitute the lateral tuberosity in a patient with significant proximal bone loss.
