Abstract

An antenna system of an unmanned aerial vehicle, the antenna system including a first loop antenna system, a second loop antenna system, and a feed line. The second loop antenna system is spaced apart from the first loop antenna system. The feed line extends between and connects the first loop antenna system and the second loop antenna system.

Claims (57)

1 . An antenna system of an unmanned aerial vehicle, the antenna system comprising:

a first cross loop antenna system;

a second cross loop antenna system spaced apart from the first cross loop antenna system;

a communication circuit electrically located between the first cross loop antenna system and the second cross loop antenna system; and

a feed line in communication with the communication circuit and extending between and connecting the first cross loop antenna system and the second cross loop antenna system together.

2 . The antenna system of claim 1 , wherein the feed line includes:

a first feed line that extends from the first cross loop antenna system into contact with the communication circuit; and

a second feed line that extends from the communication circuit into contact with the second cross loop antenna system.

3 . The antenna system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a ground plane, wherein the first cross loop antenna system and the second cross loop antenna system are connected to the ground plane.

4 . The antenna system of claim 3 , wherein the ground plane comprises:

a first ground plane connected to the first cross loop antenna system; and

a second ground plane connected to the second cross loop antenna system.

5 . The antenna system of claim 4 , wherein the first ground plane and the second ground plane are coplanar.

6 . The antenna system of claim 1 , wherein the first cross loop antenna system and the second cross loop antenna system include an impedance-matching ground contact.

7 . The antenna system of claim 1 , wherein the first cross loop antenna system, the second cross loop antenna system, or both comprise two intersecting single-fed loops.

8 . The antenna system of claim 1 , wherein the first cross loop antenna system, the second cross loop antenna system, or both comprise four antenna loops.

9 . The antenna system of claim 1 , wherein the first cross loop antenna system and the second cross loop antenna system include a ground contact and an impedance-matching ground contact.

10 . An antenna system of an unmanned aerial vehicle, the antenna system comprising:

a ground plane; and

a first antenna loop system and a second antenna loop system, wherein each of the first antenna loop system and the second antenna loop system comprises:

a crossing location;

a first antenna portion;

a second antenna portion;

a third antenna portion;

a fourth antenna portion;

ground contacts that connect the antenna loop to the ground plane; and

an impedance-matching ground contact,

a communication circuit electrically located between the first antenna loop system and the second antenna loop system;

wherein the first antenna portion, the second antenna portion, the third antenna portion, and the fourth antenna portion are connected together at the crossing location.

11 . The antenna system of claim 10 , wherein the first antenna portion, the second antenna portion, the third antenna portion, and the fourth antenna portion each include a first end and a second end.

12 . The antenna system of claim 11 , wherein the first ends and the second ends of the first antenna portion, the second antenna portion, and the third antenna portion are connected to the ground plane.

13 . The antenna system of claim 12 , wherein the first end of the fourth antenna portion is connected to the ground plane.

14 . The antenna system of claim 13 , wherein the second end of the fourth antenna portion is connected to a feed line.

15 . The antenna system of claim 10 ,

wherein the first antenna loop system and the second antenna loop system are connected via a feed line.

16 . The antenna system of claim 15 , wherein the ground plane includes a first ground plane in communication with the first antenna loop system and a second ground plane in communication with the second antenna loop system.

17 . The antenna system of claim 10 , wherein the first loop antenna system and the second loop antenna system include a support structure.

18 . An antenna system of an unmanned aerial vehicle, the antenna system comprising:

a ground plane;

a first antenna loop system comprising:

a crossing location;

a first antenna portion;

a second antenna portion;

a third antenna portion; and

a fourth antenna portion;

a second antenna loop system comprising:

a first antenna portion;

a second antenna portion;

a third antenna portion; and

a fourth antenna portion; and

a communication circuit electrically located between the first antenna loop system and the second antenna loop system;

a feed line in communication with the communication circuit,

wherein the first antenna loop system and the second antenna loop system are connected to the ground plane, and

wherein the first antenna loop system and the second antenna loop system are connected by the feed line so that the feed line is connected to the first loop antenna system and the second loop antenna system.

19 . The antenna system of claim 18 , wherein the feed line comprises a first feed line directly connected to the first antenna loop system and a second feed line directly connected to the second antenna loop system, and wherein the first feed line and the second feed line are spaced apart and connected by the communication circuit.

20 . The antenna system of claim 18 , wherein the ground plane comprises a first ground plane and a second ground plane, and wherein the first antenna loop system is connected to the first ground plane and the second antenna loop system is connected to the second ground plane.
