Abstract

An illustrative method for operating an agent configuration may include providing an unprivileged agentless workload scanning configuration to collect non-runtime workload data associated with a workload deployed within a cloud environment, determining one or more properties of the workload based on the non-runtime workload data, and performing an operation with respect to a privileged agent configuration deployed within the cloud environment and configured to collect runtime workload data associated with the workload. Likewise, an illustrative method for operating an agentless configuration may include providing a privileged agent configuration to collect runtime workload data associated with a workload deployed within a cloud environment, determining one or more properties of the workload based on the runtime workload data, and performing an operation with respect to an unprivileged agentless scanning configuration deployed within the cloud environment and configured to collect non-runtime workload data associated with the workload.

Claims (38)

1. A method comprising:

providing, by a data platform, an unprivileged agentless workload scanning configuration configured to collect non-runtime workload data associated with a workload deployed within a cloud environment;

determining, by the data platform based on an analysis of the non-runtime workload data, one or more properties of the workload; and

performing, by the data platform based on the one or more properties, an operation with respect to a privileged agent configuration deployed within the cloud environment and configured to collect runtime workload data associated with the workload, wherein the performing the operation includes constructing a graph comprising a plurality of nodes representing logical entities associated with the non-runtime workload data and the runtime workload data.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performing the operation includes causing the privileged agent configuration to perform an on-demand collection of the runtime workload data.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the on-demand collection of the runtime workload data is performed in addition to a regularly scheduled collection of the runtime workload data that is performed by the privileged agent configuration.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performing the operation includes validating, based on an analysis of the runtime workload data, the one or more properties of the workload determined based on the analysis of the non-runtime workload data.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performing the operation includes determining, based on an analysis of the runtime workload data, one or more properties of the workload that are different than the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the non-runtime workload data.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performing the operation includes:

determining, based on an analysis of the runtime workload data, one or more properties of the workload that are the same as the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the non-runtime workload data;

comparing the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the runtime workload data with the one or more properties determined based on the non-runtime workload data; and

providing, by the data platform, a notification when a difference between the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the runtime workload data and the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the non-runtime workload data is greater than a threshold.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performing the operation includes scanning, using the privileged agent configuration, the runtime workload data, wherein a depth of the scan is based on the one or more properties of the workload.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performing the operation includes determining an order in which different portions of the runtime workload data is collected using the privileged agent configuration.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the unprivileged agentless workload scanning configuration is configured to collect non-runtime workload data associated with the workload by generating a snapshot of the workload data.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of nodes are connected by a plurality of edges, wherein each edge of the plurality of edges represents a behavioral relationship between nodes connected by the edge.

11. A method comprising:

providing, by a data platform, a privileged agent configuration for deployment within a cloud environment, the privileged agent configuration configured to collect runtime workload data associated with a workload deployed within the cloud environment;

determining, by the data platform based on an analysis of the runtime workload data, one or more properties of the workload; and

performing, by the data platform based on the one or more properties, an operation with respect to an unprivileged agentless workload scanning configuration configured to collect non-runtime workload data associated with the workload, wherein the performing the operation includes constructing a graph comprising a plurality of nodes representing logical entities associated with the non-runtime workload data and the runtime workload data.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the performing the operation includes causing the unprivileged agentless workload scanning configuration to perform an on-demand collection of the non-runtime workload data.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the performing the operation includes validating, based on an analysis of the non-runtime workload data, the one or more properties of the workload determined based on the analysis of the runtime workload data.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the performing the operation includes determining, based on an analysis of the non-runtime workload data, one or more properties of the workload that are different than the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the runtime workload data.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the performing the operation includes:

determining, based on an analysis of the non-runtime workload data, one or more properties of the workload that are the same as the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the runtime workload data;

comparing the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the non-runtime workload data with the one or more properties determined based on the runtime workload data; and

providing, by the data platform, a notification when a difference between the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the non-runtime workload data and the one or more properties determined based on the analysis of the runtime workload data is greater than a threshold.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the performing the operation includes scanning, using the unprivileged agentless workload scanning configuration, the non-runtime workload data, wherein a depth of the scan is based on the one or more properties of the workload.

17. The method of claim 11 , wherein the performing the operation includes determining an order in which different portions of the non-runtime workload data is collected using the unprivileged agentless workload scanning configuration.

18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of nodes are connected by a plurality of edges, wherein each edge of the plurality of edges represents a behavioral relationship between nodes connected by the edge.

19. A computer program product embodied in a non-transitory computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions capable of being executed to:

provide an unprivileged agentless workload scanning configuration configured to collect non-runtime workload data associated with a workload deployed within a cloud environment;

determine, based on an analysis of the non-runtime workload data, one or more properties of the workload; and

perform, based on the one or more properties, an operation with respect to a privileged agent configuration deployed within the cloud environment and configured to collect runtime workload data associated with the workload, wherein the operation includes constructing a graph comprising a plurality of nodes representing logical entities associated with the non-runtime workload data and the runtime workload data.

20. A computer program product embodied in a non-transitory computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions capable of being executed to:

provide a privileged agent configuration for deployment within a cloud environment, the privileged agent configuration configured to collect runtime workload data associated with a workload deployed within the cloud environment;

determine, based on an analysis of the runtime workload data, one or more properties of the workload; and

perform, based on the one or more properties, an operation with respect to an unprivileged agentless workload scanning configuration configured to collect non-runtime workload data associated with the workload, wherein the operation includes constructing a graph comprising a plurality of nodes representing logical entities associated with the non-runtime workload data and the runtime workload data.
