Systems and methods for providing synchronized supplemental content to a subset of users that are disinterested in live content
Systems and methods are described herein for providing supplemental content to a group of users when the group of users is disinterested in content from a live content stream. When users are disinterested in a segment of the live content, the users will be provided with supplemental content to consume during the not interesting portion of the live content while other users that are viewing the live content will continue to receive the live content stream. After the segment of the live content is completed, the group of users will resume consumption of the live content stream.
1. A method comprising:
determining that a subset of a plurality of users accessing a first media asset are disinterested in a segment of the first media asset;
identifying an intersection of preferences of each user of the subset of the plurality of users;
identifying a second media asset matching the intersection of preferences; and
providing a synchronized viewing of the second media asset to the subset of the plurality of users while providing the segment to users of the plurality of users that are not in the subset.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
subsequent to an end of the segment, providing a synchronized viewing of the first media asset to the plurality of users.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein a duration second media asset is greater than a duration of the segment, further comprising, subsequent to an end of the segment, storing a bookmark corresponds a play position within the second media asset.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first media asset is a live media asset and wherein the second media asset is an on-demand media asset.
5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
generating for display a progress bar, wherein a first portion of the progress bar corresponds to the first media asset and is visually distinguished from a second portion of the progress bar that corresponds to the second media asset.
6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining that the segment of the first media asset corresponds to an advertisement.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the subset of the plurality of users accessing the first media asset are disinterested in the segment of the first media asset, comprises:
retrieving metadata corresponding to the segment;
comparing the metadata to a respective profile for each user of the subset of the plurality of users; and
determining that the metadata does not match an interest in each respective profile for each user of the subset of the plurality of users.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein a runtime of the second media asset matches a duration of the segment.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subset of users are connected in a social network.
10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining that a number of users within the subset of the plurality of users is less than half of a number of the plurality of users.
11. A system comprising control circuitry configured to:
determine that a subset of a plurality of users accessing a first media asset are disinterested in a segment of the first media asset;
identify an intersection of preferences of each user of the subset of the plurality of users;
identify a second media asset matching the intersection of preferences; and
provide a synchronized viewing of the second media asset to the subset of the plurality of users while providing the segment to users of the plurality of users that are not in the subset.
12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
subsequent to an end of the segment, provide a synchronized viewing of the first media asset to the plurality of users.
13. The system of claim 11 , wherein a duration second media asset is greater than a duration of the segment, and wherein the control circuitry is further configured, subsequent to an end of the segment, to store a bookmark corresponds a play position within the second media asset.
14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first media asset is a live media asset and wherein the second media asset is an on-demand media asset.
15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
generate for display a progress bar, wherein a first portion of the progress bar corresponds to the first media asset and is visually distinguished from a second portion of the progress bar that corresponds to the second media asset.
16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine that the segment of the first media asset corresponds to an advertisement.
17. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured, when determining that the subset of the plurality of users accessing the first media asset are disinterested in the segment of the first media asset, to:
retrieve metadata corresponding to the segment;
compare the metadata to a respective profile for each user of the subset of the plurality of users; and
determine that the metadata does not match an interest in each respective profile for each user of the subset of the plurality of users.
18. The system of claim 11 , wherein a runtime of the second media asset matches a duration of the segment.
19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the subset of users are connected in a social network.
20. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine that a number of users within the subset of the plurality of users is less than half of a number of the plurality of users.
