Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for providing a recommendation to modify deficient a deficient content item. A plurality of content items associated with a topic is retrieved. Each of the content items includes a plurality of portions each associated with a respective sub-topic. A rating for each sub-topic of the content items is calculated, and a minimum viable subset of the sub-topics is identified based on the calculated ratings. A new content item associated with the topic is accessed. A plurality of portions of the new content item is identified and a sub-topic for each identified portion is determined. An omitted sub-topic of the minimum viable subset of the sub-topics that is not included in the sub-topics of the new content item is identified, and the system interrupts upload of the new content and recommends modifying the new content item to include a portion with the omitted sub-topic.

Claims (53)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving a first request to upload to a sharing service a new content item that is directed to a topic, wherein the sharing service makes content items available to a plurality of user devices via a network;

determining that the new content item comprises segments directed to a first plurality of sub-topics;

accessing a database of the sharing service that stores a plurality of content items directed to the topic;

filtering the plurality of content items directed to the topic based on ratings received from users of the sharing service to identify a subset of content items directed to the topic;

identifying a minimum viable subset of a second plurality of sub-topics by identifying sub-topics common to the subset of content items directed to the topic;

identifying an omitted sub-topic in the new content item by comparing the first plurality of sub-topics to the minimum viable subset of the second plurality of sub-topics for the topic;

in response to the identifying the omitted sub-topic, rejecting the first request to upload the new content item to the sharing service and transmitting for display a notification identifying the omitted sub-topic;

receiving a second request to upload a modified new content item; and

uploading the modified new content item to the sharing service, in response to determining that the modified new content item includes a segment directed to the omitted sub-topic.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the notification includes a link to a segment stored in a database, and wherein the segment corresponds to the omitted sub-topic in the new content item.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the notification includes suggestions for highly rated sub-topics that were not included in the minimum viable subset of the sub-topics for the topic.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the rejecting the first request to upload the new content item comprises interrupting the upload of the new content item.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the uploading the modified new content item comprises resuming the upload of the new content item after the new content item is modified to include the omitted sub-topic.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining that the new content item comprises segments directed to the first plurality of sub-topics is based on a table of contents associated with the new content item.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the upload of the modified new content item is to a remote server to be made available to the plurality of user devices.

8. A system, comprising:

control circuitry configured to:

receive a first request to upload to a sharing service a new content item that is directed to a topic, wherein the sharing service makes content items available to a plurality of user devices via a network;

determine that the new content item comprises segments directed to a first plurality of sub-topics; and

access a database of the sharing service that stores a plurality of content items directed to the topic;

filter the plurality of content items directed to the topic based on ratings received from users of the sharing service to identify a subset of content items directed to the topic;

identify a minimum viable subset of a second plurality of sub-topics by identifying sub-topics common to the subset of content items directed to the topic;

identify an omitted sub-topic in the new content item by comparing the first plurality of sub-topics to the minimum viable subset of the second plurality of sub-topics for the topic;

in response to the identification of the omitted sub-topic, reject the first request to upload the new content item to the sharing service;

receive a second request to upload a modified new content item; and

upload the modified new content item to the sharing service, in response to determining that the modified new content item includes a segment directed to the omitted sub-topic; and

transceiver circuitry configured to:

in response to the identification of the omitted sub-topic, transmit for display a notification identifying the omitted sub-topic.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the notification includes a link to a segment stored in a database, and wherein the segment corresponds to the omitted sub-topic in the new content item.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the notification includes suggestions for highly rated sub-topics that were not included in the minimum viable subset of the sub-topics for the topic.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to, when rejecting the first request to upload the new content item, interrupt the upload of the new content item.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to, when uploading the modified new content item, resume the upload of the new content item after the new content item is modified to include the omitted sub-topic.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to determine that the new content item comprises segments directed to the first plurality of sub-topics based on a table of contents associated with the new content item.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the upload of the modified new content item is to a remote server to be made available to a plurality of user devices.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having:

instructions encoded thereon that, when executed by control circuitry, cause the control circuitry to:

receive a first request to upload to a sharing service a new content item that is directed to a topic, wherein the sharing service makes content items available to a plurality of user devices via a network;

determine that the new content item comprises segments directed to a first plurality of sub-topics;

access a database of the sharing service that stores a plurality of content items directed to the topic;

filter the plurality of content items directed to the topic based on ratings received from users of the sharing service to identify a subset of content items directed to the topic;

identify a minimum viable subset of a second plurality of sub-topics by identifying sub-topics common to the subset of content items directed to the topic;

identify an omitted sub-topic in the new content item by comparing the first plurality of sub-topics to the minimum viable subset of the second plurality of sub-topics for the topic;

in response to the identification of the omitted sub-topic, reject the first request to upload the new content item to the sharing service;

receive a second request to upload a modified new content item; and

upload the modified new content item to the sharing service, in response to determining that the modified new content item includes a segment directed to the omitted sub-topic; and

instructions encoded thereon that cause transceiver circuitry to:

in response to the identification of the omitted sub-topic by the control circuitry, transmit for display a notification identifying the omitted sub-topic.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the notification includes a link to a segment stored in a database, and wherein the segment corresponds to the omitted sub-topic in the new content item.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the notification includes suggestions for highly rated sub-topics that were not included in the minimum viable subset of the sub-topics for the topic.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions encoded thereon further cause the control circuitry to, when rejecting the first request to upload the new content item, interrupt the upload of the new content item.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the instructions encoded thereon further cause the control circuitry to, when uploading the modified new content item, resume the upload of the new content item after the new content item is modified to include the omitted sub-topic.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions encoded thereon cause the control circuitry to determine that the new content item comprises segments directed to the first plurality of sub-topics based on a table of contents associated with the new content item.
