Abstract

A disk stack repair insert includes a first replacement disk segment defining a first groove pattern comprising first grooves; and a second replacement disk segment defining a second groove pattern comprising second grooves, the first replacement disk segment coupled to the second replacement disk segment, wherein the first groove pattern and the second groove pattern define a fluid passageway therebetween.

Claims (49)

1. A disk stack repair insert comprising:

a first replacement disk segment defining a first groove pattern comprising a plurality of first grooves; and

a second replacement disk segment defining a second groove pattern comprising a plurality of second grooves, the first replacement disk segment coupled to the second replacement disk segment, wherein the first groove pattern and the second groove pattern define a fluid passageway therebetween;

wherein:

each of the first replacement disk segment and the second replacement disk segment defines a pair of opposing edges;

the pair of opposing edges of the first replacement disk segment do not intersect the first groove pattern;

the pair of opposing edges of the second replacement disk segment do not intersect the second groove pattern;

each of the pair of opposing edges of the first replacement disk segment are substantially linear; and

each of the pair of opposing edges of the second replacement disk segment are substantially linear.

2. The disk stack repair insert of claim 1 , wherein:

a first one of the pair of opposing edges of the first replacement disk segment is aligned with a first one of the pair of opposing edges of the second replacement disk segment to define a substantially planar first side of the disk stack repair insert; and

a second one of the pair of opposing edges of the first replacement disk segment is aligned with a second one of the pair of opposing edges of the second replacement disk segment to define a substantially planar second side of the disk stack repair insert.

3. The disk stack repair insert of claim 1 , wherein the first replacement disk segment and the second replacement disk segment comprise stainless steel.

4. The disk stack repair insert of claim 1 , wherein:

the first replacement disk segment defines a first alignment hole;

the second replacement disk segment defines a second alignment hole; and

an alignment pin is received through the first and second alignment holes.

5. The disk stack repair insert of claim 4 , wherein the first and second replacement disk segments are joined to each other and to the alignment pin by welding.

6. The disk stack repair insert of claim 4 , wherein the first alignment hole is formed between the plurality of first grooves of the first groove pattern and the second alignment hole is formed between the plurality of second grooves of the second groove pattern.

7. The disk stack repair insert of claim 4 , wherein:

the first replacement disk segment defines a plurality of the first alignment holes spaced apart along an arcuate centerline of the first replacement disk segment;

the second replacement disk segment defines a plurality of the second alignment holes spaced apart along an arcuate centerline of the second replacement disk segment; and

the disk stack repair insert comprises a plurality of the alignment pins, each of the alignment pins extends through a corresponding one of the plurality of first alignment holes and a corresponding one of the plurality of second alignment holes.

8. The disk stack repair insert of claim 1 , wherein:

each of the first replacement disk segment and the second replacement disk segment defines an upper replacement disk surface and an opposite lower replacement disk surface; and

the lower replacement disk surface of the first replacement disk segment abuts the upper replacement disk surface of the second replacement disk segment.

9. The disk stack repair insert of claim 8 , wherein:

the plurality of first grooves are formed in the lower replacement disk surface of the first replacement disk segment;

the plurality of second grooves are formed in the upper replacement disk surface of the second replacement disk segment; and

each of the plurality of first grooves overlaps one or more of the plurality of second grooves.

10. The disk stack repair insert of claim 9 , wherein:

the disk stack repair insert defines an inner insert surface and an outer insert surface; and

fluid is configured to flow through the fluid passageway from the inner insert surface to the outer insert surface.

11. The disk stack repair insert of claim 10 , wherein at least one of the plurality of first grooves of the first replacement disk segment is formed at the inner insert surface, and wherein at least one of the plurality of second grooves of the second replacement disk segment is formed at the outer insert surface.

12. The disk stack repair insert of claim 11 , wherein the inner insert surface is substantially arcuate, and the outer insert surface is substantially arcuate.

13. The disk stack repair insert of claim 11 , wherein the disk stack repair insert comprises an annular primary replacement disk sectioned into at least the first replacement disk segment and the second replacement disk segment, the first replacement disk segment stacked vertically on the second replacement disk segment.

14. A disk stack repair insert comprising:

a first replacement disk segment defining a first groove pattern comprising a plurality of first grooves; and

a second replacement disk segment defining a second groove pattern comprising a plurality of second grooves, the first replacement disk segment coupled to the second replacement disk segment, wherein the first groove pattern and the second groove pattern define a fluid passageway therebetween;

wherein:

the first replacement disk segment defines a first alignment hole;

the second replacement disk segment defines a second alignment hole;

an alignment pin is received through the first and second alignment holes; and

the first and second replacement disk segments are joined to each other and to the alignment pin by welding.

15. The disk stack repair insert of claim 14 , wherein the first alignment hole is formed between the plurality of first grooves of the first groove pattern and the second alignment hole is formed between the plurality of second grooves of the second groove pattern.

16. The disk stack repair insert of claim 14 , wherein:

the first replacement disk segment defines a plurality of the first alignment holes spaced apart along an arcuate centerline of the first replacement disk segment;

the second replacement disk segment defines a plurality of the second alignment holes spaced apart along an arcuate centerline of the second replacement disk segment; and

the disk stack repair insert comprises a plurality of the alignment pins, each of the alignment pins extends through a corresponding one of the plurality of first alignment holes and a corresponding one of the plurality of second alignment holes.
