Abstract

Liquid crystal display device is provided and includes first substrate having a first surface; second substrate having second surface opposed to and spaced from first surface; liquid crystal layer disposed between first and second surfaces, signal lines extending in parallel including first signal line; and spacers protruding from second surface to first surface, spacers including first spacer and second spacer adjacent to first spacer, wherein spacers overlap signal lines, first and second spacers overlap first signal line, and arrangement of spacers on one signal line is staggered, such that: center of first spacer shifts to right side of first signal line; and center of second spacer shifts to left side of first signal line.

Claims (44)

1. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

a first substrate having a first surface;

a second substrate having a second surface that is opposed to and spaced from the first surface;

a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first surface and the second surface,

signal lines extending in parallel, the signal lines including a first signal line; and

spacers protruding from the second surface to the first surface, the spacers including a first spacer and a second spacer adjacent to the first spacer,

wherein

the spacers overlap the signal lines,

the first spacer and the second spacer overlap the first signal line, and

an arrangement of the spacers on one of the signal line is staggered, such that:

a center of the first spacer shifts to right side of the first signal line; and

a center of the second spacer shifts to left side of the first signal line.

2. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the signal lines further include a second signal line adjacent to the first signal line,

the spacers further include a third spacer and a fourth spacer that overlap the second signal line,

the third spacer is adjacent to the first spacer,

the fourth spacer is adjacent to the second spacer,

a center of the third spacer shifts to a left side of the second signal line, and

a center of the fourth spacer shifts to a right side of the second signal line.

3. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein

a first part and a second part of the first surface protrudes toward the second surface,

the first part is in contact with the first spacer, and

the second part is in contact with the second spacer.

4. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 3 , further includes

gate lines extending crossing the signal lines, the gate lines including a first gate line and the second gate line; wherein

the first part is located at an intersection of the first gate line and the first signal line, and

the second part is located at an intersection of the second gate line and the first signal line.

5. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4 , wherein the first substrate further includes: a light-shielding region that is in a lattice form and includes first shielding portions each overlapping an entire length of one of the gate lines and second shielding portions each overlapping an entire length of one of the signal lines; and opening regions surrounded by the light-shielding region.

6. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 5 , further comprising pixel electrodes overlapping the opening regions, wherein

the pixel electrodes include a first pixel electrode between the first signal line and the second signal line, and

a part of the first pixel electrode overlaps the first part of the first surface.

7. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 5 , further comprising:

a common electrode; and

pixel electrodes disposed between the common electrode and the liquid crystal layer and overlapping the opening regions,

wherein part of the common electrode overlaps the first part of the first surface.

8. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 5 , further comprising:

an insulating film; and

pixel electrodes provided between liquid crystal layer and the insulating film,

wherein part of the insulating film is the first part and the second part of the first surface.

9. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 5 , further comprising:

a first insulating film;

pixel electrodes provided between liquid crystal layer and the first insulating film; and

a second insulating film on the first insulating film,

wherein part of the second insulating film is the first part and the second part of the first surface.
