Abstract

A method, system, and apparatus directed to an innovative approach for the treatment of stormwater utilizing hydrodynamic separator assembly designed to maximize flow movement for more efficient sediment removal and maximize water flow control.

Claims (26)

1. A hydrodynamic separator configured for installation within a stormwater drainage infrastructure, wherein the hydrodynamic separator has a substantially circular side wall with a top, with one or more access openings, a bottom, at least one inlet opening and at least one outlet opening;

wherein said hydrodynamic separator contains an outlet weir, said outlet weir having a weir shelf and a wall, said outlet weir attached to said side wall of hydrodynamic separator via mounts, and positioned so that a top of the wall of the outlet weir is disposed across the outlet opening horizontally level;

wherein the outlet weir has two or more orifices spaced apart vertically, including one or more orifices on the weir shelf of the outlet weir to control water level and discharge rate at low flow conditions and one or more orifices on the wall of the outlet weir to control water level and discharge rate at moderate flow conditions, and wherein the top of the wall of the outlet weir is set at a higher elevation than the two or more orifices to control the water level at higher flows that exceed the flow capacity of the two or more orifices below;

wherein the one or more orifices on the weir shelf are configured to allow a limited flow to the outlet under low flow conditions so as to increase water level in the separator.

2. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 1 ,

wherein the wall of the outlet weir has two side mounts, where the side mounts extend the length of the wall of the outlet weir;

wherein the wall and side mounts connect seamlessly to the weir shelf and the weir shelf is curved;

wherein the outlet weir is affixed to a curved bottom mount configured to be flush with an invert of the outlet opening.

3. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 1 , wherein a casing of the assembly defines the substantially circular wall and is selected from the group consisting of: metal, plastic, concrete, fiberglass, composite, and a combination thereof.

4. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 1 , wherein the outlet weir is selected from a group consisting of: non-corrosive materials including: metal, plastic, concrete, fiberglass, composite, and a combination thereof.

5. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 1 , wherein the inlet opening has a connected inlet pipe and the outlet opening has a connected outlet pipe, wherein the inlet pipe and the outlet pipe are selected from a group consisting of: metal, plastic, concrete, clay, or a combination thereof.

6. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 1 , wherein the overall size of the system has a diameter of 2 feet to 100 feet.

7. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 5 , wherein the inlet and outlet pipes have a diameter of 2 inches to 30 feet.

8. A hydrodynamic separator configured for installation within a stormwater drainage infrastructure, wherein the hydrodynamic separator has four side walls, a top, with one or more access openings, a bottom, at least one inlet opening and at least one outlet opening;

wherein said hydrodynamic separator contains an outlet weir, said outlet weir having a weir shelf and a wall, said outlet weir attached to one of said four side walls of the hydrodynamic separator via mounts, and positioned so that a top of the wall of the outlet weir is disposed across the outlet opening horizontally level;

wherein the outlet weir has two or more orifices spaced apart vertically, including one or more orifices on the weir shelf of the outlet weir to control water level and discharge rate at low flow conditions and one or more orifices on the wall of the outlet control weir to control water level and discharge rate at moderate flow conditions, and wherein the top of the wall of the outlet weir is set at a higher elevation than the two or more orifices to control the water level at higher flows that exceed the flow capacity of the two or more orifices below;

wherein the one or more orifices on the weir shelf are configured to allow a limited flow to the outlet weir under low flow conditions so as to increase water lever in the separator.

9. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 8 ,

wherein the wall of the outlet weir has two side mounts;

wherein the wall of the outlet weir and the side mounts connect seamlessly to the weir shelf;

wherein the outlet weir is affixed to a bottom mount configured to be flush with an invert of the outlet opening.

10. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 8 , wherein a casing of the assembly defines the four side walls and is selected from the group consisting of: metal, plastic, concrete, fiberglass, composite, and a combination thereof.

11. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 8 , wherein the outlet weir is selected from a group consisting of: non-corrosive materials including: metal, plastic, concrete, fiberglass, composite, and a combination thereof.

12. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 8 , wherein the inlet opening has a connected inlet pipe and the outlet opening has a connected outlet pipe, wherein the inlet pipe and the outlet pipe are selected from a group consisting of: metal, plastic, concrete, clay, or a combination thereof.

13. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 8 , wherein the overall size of the system has a diameter of 2 feet to 100 feet.

14. The hydrodynamic separator of claim 12 , wherein the inlet and outlet pipes have a diameter of 2 inches to 30 feet.
