Abstract

Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to identify media for ahead of time watermark encoding. An example apparatus includes a media interface to determine a characteristic of media, the characteristic corresponding to a broadcast time of the media; and a controller to: determine an identifier corresponding to the media; transmit a query including the characteristic and the identifier prior to the media being broadcast, the query to request an indication whether the identifier is unique; and responsive to the indication that the identifier is unique, cause a watermark to be encoded in the media using the identifier prior to the media being broadcast.

Claims (32)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a media interface configured to determine a characteristic of media, the characteristic corresponding to a broadcast time of the media; and

a controller configured to:

determine an identifier corresponding to the media;

transmit a query including the characteristic and the identifier prior to the media being broadcast, the query to request an indication whether the identifier is unique; and

responsive to obtaining an indication that the identifier is unique, cause a watermark to be encoded in the media using the identifier prior to the media being broadcast.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the characteristic further corresponds to a duration of the media.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the duration is a first duration, wherein the media is first media, and wherein the controller is configured to cause the watermark to be encoded based on whether a second duration of second media overlaps the first duration of the first media at the broadcast time.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the media interface further determines an encoding level of the media, the encoding level determined based on the characteristic of the media.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , further including a dispatcher configured to transmit the media to an encoder to encode the watermark using the encoding level prior to the media being broadcast.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the identifier is a first identifier, wherein the controller is configured to, responsive to obtaining a second indication that the identifier is not unique, determine a second identifier corresponding to the media.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the characteristic further includes at least one of a label of the media and a check digit corresponding to the media.

8. A method comprising:

determining a characteristic of media, the characteristic corresponding to a broadcast time of the media;

determining an identifier corresponding to the media;

transmitting a query including the characteristic and the identifier prior to the media being broadcast, the query to request an indication whether the identifier is unique; and

responsive to obtaining an indication that the identifier is unique, causing a watermark to be encoded in the media using the identifier prior to the media being broadcast.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the characteristic further corresponds to a duration of the media.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the duration is a first duration, wherein the media is first media, and further including causing the watermark to be encoded based on whether a second duration of second media overlaps the first duration of the first media at the broadcast time.

11. The method of claim 8 , further including determining an encoding level of the media based on the characteristic of the media.

12. The method of claim 11 , further including transmitting the media to an encoder to encode the watermark using the encoding level prior to the media being broadcast.

13. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions which, when executed, cause at least one processor to at least:

determine a characteristic of media, the characteristic corresponding to a broadcast time of the media;

determine an identifier corresponding to the media;

transmit a query including the characteristic and the identifier prior to the media being broadcast, the query to request an indication whether the identifier is unique; and

responsive to obtaining an indication that the identifier is unique, cause a watermark to be encoded in the media using the identifier prior to the media being broadcast.

14. The computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the characteristic further corresponds to a duration of the media.

15. The computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the duration is a first duration, wherein the media is first media, and wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the at least one processor to cause the watermark to be encoded based on whether a second duration of second media overlaps the first duration of the first media at the broadcast time.

16. The computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the at least one processor to determine an encoding level of the media based on the characteristic of the media.

17. The computer readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the at least one processor to transmit the media to an encoder to encode the watermark using the encoding level prior to the media being broadcast.

18. The computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the identifier is a first identifier, wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the at least one processor to, responsive to obtaining a second indication that the identifier is not unique, determine a second identifier corresponding to the media.

19. The computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the characteristic further includes at least one of a label of the media and a check digit corresponding to the media.
