Abstract

An information integration system may include a set of integration services embodied on one or more server machines in a computing environment. The set of integration services may include connectors communicatively connected to disparate information systems. The connectors may be configured for integrating data stored in the disparate information systems utilizing a common model employed by the set of integration services. The common model may overlay, augment, integrate, or otherwise utilize a content management interoperability services data model and may include common property definitions and a common security model. The common security model may include permissions particularly defined for use by the set of integration services. These common property definitions and permissions may be uniquely defined and utilized by the information integration system.

Claims (50)

1. A method for information integration, comprising:

integrating, by an integration server operating at an integration tier of an information integration system, data stored in disparate information systems residing at a storage tier of the information integration system, the integration server having integration services and connectors configured for the integration services to communicate with the disparate information systems, wherein integration of the data stored in the disparate information systems is performed utilizing a common model such that the data stored in the disparate information systems is accessible by an application running at an application tier of the information integration system through the integration services regardless of where the data actually resides, the common model comprising a content management interoperability services (CMIS) data model, a common security model comprising a set of common security model permissions, and a set of common keys, each of which maps to semantically equivalent attributes or metadata fields used by at least two different repository-specific data models employed by the disparate information systems; and

providing, by the integration server operating at the integration tier of the information integration system through the integration services, the application running at the application tier of the information integration system with access to the disparate information systems residing at the storage tier of the information integration system.

2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

synchronizing data type definitions across the connectors at the integration tier according to the common model.

3. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

mapping permissions from the disparate information systems that do not conform to the common security model to the set of common security model permissions so that the permissions from the disparate information systems conform to the common security model.

4. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

building a unified index using the data stored in the disparate information systems and mapped to the common model.

5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein the unified index further comprises the set of common security model permissions of the common security model.

6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the application comprises a search function and wherein the information integration system further comprises a search system, the method further comprising:

receiving, by the search system, a search request from the application through the search function; and

determining search results to return to the application in response to the search request based at least in part on the set of common security model permissions in the unified index.

7. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

obtaining objects from the disparate information systems through the connectors; and

providing the objects to an ingestion pipeline for processing, wherein the ingestion pipeline is configured to extract information from the objects and output the extracted information to a search engine for indexing.

8. A system for information integration, the system comprising:

an application running at an application tier of the system;

disparate information systems residing at a storage tier of the system; and

an integration server having integration services, connectors, and a common model and operating at an integration tier of the system, wherein the connectors are configured for the integration services to communicate with the disparate information systems, wherein the common model comprises a content management interoperability services (CMIS) data model, a common security model comprising a set of common security model permissions, and a set of common keys, each of which maps to semantically equivalent attributes or metadata fields used by at least two different repository-specific data models employed by the disparate information systems, and wherein the integration server further comprises:

a processor;

a non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

instructions stored on the non-transitory computer-readable medium and translatable by the processor for:

integrating, utilizing the common model, the data stored in the disparate information systems residing at the storage tier of the system such that data stored in the disparate information systems is accessible by the application running at the application tier of the system through the integration services regardless of where the data actually resides; and

providing, through the integration services, the application running at the application tier of the information integration system with access to the disparate information systems residing at the storage tier of the information integration system.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

synchronizing data type definitions across the connectors at the integration tier according to the common model.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

mapping permissions from the disparate information systems that do not conform to the common security model to the set of common security model permissions so that the permissions from the disparate information systems conform to the common security model.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

building a unified index using the data stored in the disparate information systems and mapped to the common model.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the unified index further comprises the set of common security model permissions of the common security model.

13. The system of claim 12 , further comprising:

a search system configured for receiving a search request from the application through a search function of the application, wherein the search system is operable to determine search results to return to the application in response to the search request based at least in part on the set of common security model permissions in the unified index.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

obtaining objects from the disparate information systems through the connectors; and

providing the objects to an ingestion pipeline for processing, wherein the ingestion pipeline is configured to extract information from the objects and output the extracted information to a search engine for indexing.

15. A computer program product for information integration, the computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions translatable by a processor of an integration server operating at an integration tier of an information integration system for:

integrating data stored in disparate information systems residing at a storage tier of the information integration system, the integration server having integration services and connectors configured for the integration services to communicate with the disparate information systems, wherein integration of the data stored in the disparate information systems is performed utilizing a common model such that the data stored in the disparate information systems is accessible by an application running at an application tier of the information integration system through the integration services regardless of where the data actually resides, the common model comprising a content management interoperability services (CMIS) data model, a common security model comprising a set of common security model permissions, and a set of common keys, each of which maps to semantically equivalent attributes or metadata fields used by at least two different repository-specific data models employed by the disparate information systems; and

providing, through the integration services, the application running at the application tier of the information integration system with access to the disparate information systems residing at the storage tier of the information integration system.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

synchronizing data type definitions across the connectors at the integration tier according to the common model.

17. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

mapping permissions from the disparate information systems that do not conform to the common security model to the set of common security model permissions so that the permissions from the disparate information systems conform to the common security model.

18. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

building a unified index using the data stored in the disparate information systems and mapped to the common model.

19. The computer program product of claim 18 , wherein the unified index further comprises the set of common security model permissions of the common security model.

20. The computer program product of claim 19 , wherein the application comprises a search function and wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

receiving a search request from the application through the search function; and

determining search results to return to the application in response to the search request based at least in part on the set of common security model permissions in the unified index.
