Abstract

A speed-based projection filtering method includes generating, based on a sequence of raw location points that indicate locations of a tracking tag attached to a tracked object, a sequence of averaged location points. Based on at least two most-recent averaged location points of the sequence, a latest speed and direction of the tracked object are determined. Based on the latest speed and direction, one or more projected location points are determined when the latest speed of the tracked object is greater than a high-speed threshold and raw location points are missing after the sequence of raw location points. The projected location points are then outputted.

Claims (40)

1. A speed-based projection filtering method, comprising:

generating, based on a sequence of raw location points that indicate locations of a tracking tag attached to a tracked object, a sequence of averaged location points;

determining, based on at least two most-recent averaged location points of the sequence of averaged location points, a latest speed and direction of the tracked object;

determining, based on the latest speed and direction of the tracked object, one or more projected location points when the latest speed of the tracked object is greater than a high-speed threshold and raw location points are missing after the sequence of raw location points; and

outputting the one or more projected location points.

2. The speed-based projection filtering method of claim 1 , wherein said generating includes averaging the sequence of raw location points with an averaging window.

3. The speed-based projection filtering method of claim 2 , wherein said determining the one or more projected location points occurs when a duration of the raw location points that are missing is equal to or greater than a duration of the averaging window.

4. The speed-based projection filtering method of claim 1 , wherein said determining the one or more projected location points includes applying a projection technique to the at least two most-recent averaged location points.

5. The speed-based projection filtering method of claim 1 , wherein said outputting includes storing the one or more projected location points with the at least two most-recent averaged location points in an averaged location points buffer.

6. The speed-based projection filtering method of claim 1 , wherein said determining the one or more projected location points further includes:

updating a projection interval that characterizes a duration of the raw location points that are missing;

reducing a projection speed when the projection interval is greater than a maximum projection interval; and

calculating the one or more projected location points based on the projection speed and the direction of the tracked object.

7. The speed-based projection filtering method of claim 6 , further comprising, prior to said updating:

setting the projection speed to the latest speed of the tracked object; and

setting the projection interval to zero.

8. The speed-based projection filtering method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving the sequence of raw location points from an object tracking system.

9. The speed-based projection filtering method of claim 8 , further comprising determining, with the object tracking system, the sequence of raw location points.

10. A speed-based projection filtering system, comprising:

a processor;

a memory communicatively coupled with the processor, the memory storing a sequence of raw location points that indicate locations of a tracking tag attached to a tracked object; and

a speed-based projection filter implemented as machine-readable instructions that are stored in the memory and, when executed by the processor, control the system to:

generate, based on the sequence of raw location points, a sequence of averaged location points,

determine, based on at least two most-recent averaged location points of the sequence of averaged location points, a latest speed and direction of the tracked object,

determine, based on the latest speed and direction of the tracked object, one or more projected location points when the latest speed of the tracked object is greater than a high-speed threshold and raw location points are missing after the sequence of raw location points, and

output the one or more projected location points.

11. The speed-based projection filtering system of claim 10 , wherein the machine-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, control the speed-based projection filtering system to generate includes machine-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, control the speed-based projection filtering system to average the sequence of raw location points with an averaging window.

12. The speed-based projection filtering system of claim 11 , wherein a duration of the raw location points that are missing is equal to or greater than a duration of the averaging window.

13. The speed-based projection filtering system of claim 10 , wherein the machine-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, control the speed-based projection filtering system to determine the one or more projected location points includes machine-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, control the speed-based projection filtering system to apply a projection technique to the at least two most-recent averaged location points.

14. The speed-based projection filtering system of claim 10 , wherein the machine-readable instructions that control the speed-based projection filtering system to output include machine-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, control the speed-based projection filtering system to store the one or more projected location points with the at least two most-recent averaged location points in an averaged location points buffer.

15. The speed-based projection filtering system of claim 10 , wherein the machine-readable instructions that control the speed-based projection filtering system to determine the one or more projected location points include machine-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, control the speed-based projection filtering system to:

update a projection interval that characterizes a duration of the raw location points that are missing,

reduce a projection speed when the projection interval is greater than a maximum projection interval, and

calculate the one or more projected location points based on the projection speed and the direction of the tracked object.

16. The speed-based projection filtering system of claim 15 , wherein the speed-based projection filter includes additional machine-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, control the speed-based projection filtering system, prior to when the system updates the projection interval, to:

set the projection speed to the latest speed of the tracked object, and

set the projection interval to zero.

17. The speed-based projection filtering system of claim 15 , configured to receive the sequence of raw location points from an object tracking system.

18. The speed-based projection filtering system of claim 17 , further comprising the object tracking system.

19. The speed-based projection filtering system of claim 17 , further comprising the tracking tag.
