Abstract

An embodiment of an image recording apparatus includes an eyeglass frame, at least one first optical unit disposed on the eyeglass frame for capturing a main scene image, and at least one second optical unit disposed on the eyeglass frame for capturing an auxiliary scene image. The first and the second field of view of the user at least partially overlap. The image resolution of the main scene image is lower than the image resolution of the main scene image and the field of view of the main scene image is larger than the field of view of the auxiliary scene image. The image recording apparatus further includes at least one processor for receiving the main and the auxiliary scene images, and generating a modified resolution copy of the main scene image based on the auxiliary scene image.

Claims (43)

electronic components, the electronic components comprising:

at least one processor in communication with the first and the second cameras, the at least one processor configured to:

receive the first scene image from the first camera and the second scene image from the second camera,

associate a first subset of the first scene image to a subset of the second scene image wherein the associated first subset of the first scene image and the subset of the second scene image correspond to a first portion of the scene that is within the first and the second fields of view, and

take an action to increase the dynamic range of a second subset of the first scene image based upon the associated the first subset of the first scene image to the subset of the second scene image wherein the second subset of the first scene image corresponds to a second portion of the scene that is not within the second field of view.

2. The multi-camera imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second field of view is a subset of the first field of view.

3. The multi-camera imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first scene image resolution is lower than the second scene image resolution.

4. The multi-camera imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second field of view is at least twice smaller than the first field of view.

5. The multi-camera imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first color filter array is different from the second color filter array.

6. The multi-camera imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first and the second cameras have the same number of image pixels.

7. The multi-camera imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first and the second cameras have unequal number of image pixels.

8. A high dynamic range imaging method using a multi-camera imaging device, comprising:

capturing a first scene image with a first camera, the first camera having a first color filter array and a first field of view, and the first scene image having a first image resolution and a first plurality of image pixels;

capturing a second scene image with a second camera, the second camera having a second color filter array, and the second scene image having a second image resolution and a second plurality of image pixels, wherein the first and the second fields of view at least partially overlap; and

receiving the first and the second scene images by at least one processor, wherein the at least one processor configured for:

associating a subset of the first scene image to a subset of the second scene image, and

taking at least one action to increase the dynamic range of a portion of the first scene image based upon the associated subset of the first scene image to the subset of the second scene image wherein the portion of the first scene image corresponds to a portion of the scene that is not within the field of view of the second camera.

9. The high dynamic range imaging method of claim 8 , wherein the second field of view is a subset of the first field of view.

10. The high dynamic range imaging method of claim 8 , wherein the first scene image resolution is lower than the second scene image resolution.

11. The high dynamic range imaging method of claim 8 , wherein the second field of view is at least twice smaller than the first field of view.

12. The high dynamic range imaging method of claim 8 , wherein the first color filter array is different from the second color filter array.

13. The high dynamic range imaging method of claim 8 , wherein the first and the second cameras have the same number of image pixels.

14. The high dynamic range imaging method of claim 8 , wherein the first and the second cameras have unequal number of image pixels.

15. A multi-camera imaging device comprising:

a camera module, the camera module comprising:

a first camera having a first color filter array, a first field of view, a first image resolution, and a first plurality of image pixels, for capturing a first scene image;

a second camera having a second color filter array, a second field of view, a second image resolution, and a second plurality of image pixels, for capturing a second scene image, wherein the second field of view is a subset of the first field of view; and

electronic components, the electronic components comprising:

at least one accelerometer to detect at least one movement of the camera module and generating at least one movement data corresponding to the at least one movement of the camera module;

at least one processor in communication with the first and the second cameras and the at least one accelerometer, the at least one processor configured to:

receive the at least one movement data from the at least one accelerometer and initiate a procedure to at least partially compensate for the movement of the camera module,

receive the first scene image from the first camera and the second scene image from the second camera,

associate a subset of the first scene image to a subset of the second scene image, and

take at least one action to increase the dynamic range of a portion of the first scene image based upon the associated the first subset of the first scene image to the subset of the second scene image wherein the portion of the first scene image corresponds to a portion of the scene that is not within the second field of view.
