Abstract

A tissue displacing and fastening device is provided for manipulating and fastening tissue together. The device includes a tissue displacing elements, which displaces tissue. A fold is formed from the displaced tissue and the tissue is fastened together to secure the fold.

Claims (46)

1 . A device for reinforcing an area bridging an anterior side and a posterior side of the stomach on a lesser curvature side of the stomach, comprising:

a delivery device having an elongate body;

a reinforcing element mounted to the elongate body of the delivery device, the reinforcing element having a first side and a second side, the first side configured to be attached to an anterior side of the stomach;

the second side configured to be attached to a posterior side of the stomach on a lesser curvature side of the stomach;

the reinforcing element comprising:

a woven element embedded into the reinforcing element;

a shape comprising two lobes with continuous curvature connecting each lobe, and

a raised lip around its periphery.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the reinforcing element being mounted to the delivery device so that stomach tissue which is configured to be attached to the reinforcing element may be controlled with the delivery device after attaching at least one of the first and second sides to tissue.

3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the reinforcing element being mounted to the delivery device so that stomach tissue which is configured to be attached to the reinforcing element may be controlled by the delivery device after attaching the first and second sides to tissue.

4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the delivery device includes a tissue shaper having a shaft coupled to the elongate body, a tissue displacing element configured to displace stomach tissue into the tissue shaper, and a fastener configured to fasten a fold of tissue positioned in the tissue shaper;

the reinforcing element being positioned on the elongate body so that the fastener is applied through the reinforcing element and the fold of tissue positioned in the tissue shaper.

5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein: the reinforcing element includes a woven element.

6 . The device of claim 5 , wherein:

the reinforcing element includes a polymer sheet with the woven element reinforcing the polymer sheet.

7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the delivery device includes a tissue grasper on an outer surface of the elongate body, the tissue grasper having a plurality of vacuum orifices positioned on the outer surface to form a sealing surface to adhere tissue to the elongate body using suction.

8 . The device of claim 7 , wherein:

the sealing surface is circumferential when viewed along the longitudinal axis.

9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the reinforcing element comprises a shape without a perimeter comprising rectilinearity.

10 . A device for reinforcing an area bridging an anterior side and a posterior side of the stomach on a lesser curvature side of the stomach, comprising:

a delivery device having an elongate body;

a reinforcing element mounted to the elongate body of the delivery device, the reinforcing element having a first side and a second side, the first side configured to be attached to an anterior side of the stomach;

the second side configured to be attached to a posterior side of the stomach on a lesser curvature side of the stomach, and

the reinforcing element comprising:

a shape comprising two lobes with continuous curvature connecting each lobe;

a raised lip around its periphery, and

a woven element embedded into a sheet.

11 . The device of claim 10 , wherein the woven element can be penetrated through interstitial space at any point on its surface.

12 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the reinforcing element comprises a shape without any eyelets on its surface.

13 . The device of claim 10 , wherein the reinforcing element comprises a polymer reinforced by the woven element.

14 . A device for reinforcing an area bridging an anterior side and a posterior side of the stomach on a lesser curvature side of the stomach, comprising:

a delivery device having an elongate body;

a reinforcing element mounted to the elongate body of the delivery device, the reinforcing element having a first side and a second side, the first side configured to be attached to an anterior side of the stomach;

the second side configured to be attached to a posterior side of the stomach on a lesser curvature side of the stomach, and

the reinforcing element comprising:

a shape comprising two lobes with continuous curvature connecting each lobe;

a raised lip around its periphery, and

a woven element, and

wherein the reinforcing element comprises a shape without any eyelets on its surface.

15 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the woven element can be penetrated through interstitial space at any point on its surface.

16 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the reinforcing element comprises a polymer reinforced by the woven element.
