Abstract

In one aspect, an improved gaming table, such as a craps table, is disclosed herein, which combines electronic displays and wagering interfaces with traditional craps tables having physical dice and allowing players to physically throw the dice.

Claims (46)

1. A casino system comprising:

a play field comprising:

a flat-panel display device arranged horizontally so that images displayed by the flat-panel display device are viewable from above the flat-panel display device;

a rigid protective material positioned directly above the flat-panel display device; and

a flexible protective layer positioned directly above the rigid protective material so that images displayed by the flat-panel display device are displayed through the rigid protective layer and the flexible protective layer;

a bumper wall positioned adjacent to the play field;

at least one camera;

at least one game controller memory device; and

at least one game controller processor in communication with the at least one camera and the at least one game controller memory device, the at least one game controller configured to:

cause the flat-panel display device to display a game wagering area;

cause the flat-panel display device to display a representation of a wager;

receive from the at least one camera information about physical dice that were thrown onto the play field;

determine, based at least in part on the information received from the at least one camera, a result of the thrown physical dice; and

determine a result of the displayed wager based on the determined result of the thrown physical dice and cause a credit meter associated with the displayed wager to increment when the determined result of the displayed wager is a winning determination.

2. The casino system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the flat-panel display device is a Light Emitting Diode (LED) display.

3. The casino system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the play field further comprises a play surface positioned directly above the flexible protective layer.

4. The casino system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one camera is a high-speed camera.

5. The casino system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the thrown physical dice comprise communication circuitry.

6. The casino system as defined in claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of player stations, the at least one game controller processor in communication with the plurality of player stations.

7. The casino system as defined in claim 6 , wherein the credit meter is associated with one of the plurality of player stations.

8. The casino system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one game controller processor is configured to cause a dealer station to display information received from the at least one camera and the result of the thrown physical dice is determined due to an input received by the dealer station from a dealer after the information received from the at least one camera is displayed.

9. The casino system as defined in claim 8 , wherein the input received by the dealer station indicates whether the thrown physical dice satisfied a dice roll criteria.

10. The casino system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the result of the thrown physical dice is automatically determined based on the information received from the at least one camera.

11. The casino system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one game controller processor is configured to cause a separate display device to display a representation of the result of the thrown physical dice based on the information received from the at least one camera.

12. The casino system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the bumper wall comprises a bumper wall display device.

13. The casino system as defined in claim 12 , wherein the bumper wall display device includes a bumper display device controller in communication with the at least one game controller processor for causing the bumper wall display device to display third-party advertising information.

14. A casino system comprising:

a play field comprising:

a flat-panel display device arranged horizontally so that images displayed by the flat-panel display device are viewable from above the flat-panel display device;

a rigid protective material positioned directly above the flat-panel display device; and

a flexible protective layer positioned directly above the rigid protective material so that images displayed by the flat-panel display device are displayed through the rigid protective layer and the flexible protective layer;

a bumper wall positioned adjacent to the play field;

a dice recognition system;

at least one game controller memory device; and

at least one game controller processor in communication with the dice recognition system and the at least one game controller memory device, the at least one game controller configured to:

cause the flat-panel display device to display a game wagering area;

cause the flat-panel display device to display a representation of a wager;

receive from the dice recognition system information about physical dice that were thrown onto the play field;

determine, based at least in part on the information received from the dice recognition system, a result of the thrown physical dice; and

determine a result of the displayed wager based on the determined result of the thrown physical dice and cause a credit meter associated with the displayed wager to increment when the determined result of the displayed wager is a winning determination.

15. The casino system as defined in claim 14 , wherein the dice recognition system comprises electronic circuitry within the thrown physical device and an electronic system, the electronic circuitry configured to communicate with the electronic system.

16. The casino system as defined in claim 15 , wherein the electronic circuitry communicates with the electronic system via at least one of (i) Wi-Fi, (ii) Bluetooth, (iii) NFC, (iv) RFID, or (v) at least one accelerometer.

17. The casino system as defined in claim 15 , wherein (i) the electronic circuitry comprises an RFID tag embedded on each face of the thrown physical dice, and (ii) the electronic system comprises at least one RFID reader.

18. The casino system as defined in claim 15 , wherein the electronic circuity comprises (i) an accelerometer, and (ii) an RFID tag embedded on each face of the thrown physical dice.

19. The casino system as defined in claim 15 , wherein (i) the electronic circuitry comprises an RFID tag embedded on each face of the thrown physical dice, and (ii) the electronic system comprises a plurality of RFID readers, each of the plurality of RFID readers configured to cause electric current to flow to an associated antenna.

20. The casino system as defined in claim 15 , wherein (i) the electronic circuitry comprises an RFID tag embedded on each face of the thrown physical dice, and (ii) the electronic system comprises an RFID reader having a plurality of antennas associated therewith and configured to cause electric current to flow to each of the plurality of antennas.
