Abstract

A method for detecting biometric parameters includes the steps of performing a bone graft procedure on at least one vertebra of a spine, providing at least one biometric sensor at the at least one vertebra, the sensor measuring at least one parameter selected from the group consisting of pressure, tension, shear, relative position, and vascular flow in an adjacent surrounding, and measuring the at least one biometric parameter at the vertebra with the sensor.

Claims (40)

1 . A system for detecting biometric parameters, comprising:

a tibial implant including a tibial stem configured to be inserted into a tibia;

at least one sensor array positioned within the tibial implant, the at least one sensor array including control circuitry and at least one sensor configured to measure at least one biometric parameter regarding three-dimensional spatial information of the tibial implant and at least one bone including the tibia;

an electronic display; and

a processing system in communication with the at least one sensor array via the control circuitry, wherein the processing system includes a processor and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to:

receive the at least one biometric parameter; and

display, on the electronic display, data associated with the at least one biometric parameter.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor includes a power source.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor array includes a plurality of sensors, and wherein each sensor of the plurality of sensors is a different type of sensor.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein each sensor type is configured to measure a different biometric parameter.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor array is prompted to measure or transmit the at least one biometric parameter by the processing system.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor array is integrated into a common housing.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to display a position of the tibial implant and the at least one bone in relation to each other on the electronic display.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to determine whether the at least one biometric parameter is within a predetermined range.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to visually display the tibial implant and the at least one bone.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to visually display the tibial implant and the at least one bone in a three-dimensional manner.

11 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one bone includes at least two bones at a joint, and wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to visually display the joint including a position of (i) the tibial implant and (ii) the at least two bones.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the at least two bones include the tibia and a femur, and wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to measure, using the at least one biometric parameter, a position of the tibial implant relative to the tibia or the femur.

13 . A system for detecting biometric parameters, comprising:

a tibial implant including a tibial stem configured to be inserted into a tibia;

at least one sensor array positioned within the tibial implant, the at least one sensor array including control circuitry at least one sensor configured to measure at least one biometric parameter regarding three-dimensional spatial information of the tibial implant and at least one bone including the tibia;

an electronic display; and

a processing system in communication with the at least one sensor array via the control circuitry, wherein the processing system includes a processor and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to:

receive the at least one biometric parameter; and

display, on the electronic display, data associated with the at least one biometric parameter, the at least one bone, and the tibial implant.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to display a position of the tibial implant and the at least one bone in relation to each other on the electronic display.

15 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to visually display the tibial implant and the at least one bone in a three-dimensional manner.

16 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the at least one bone includes the tibia and a femur, and wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to measure, using the at least one biometric parameter, a position of the tibial implant relative to the tibia or the femur.

17 . A system for detecting biometric parameters, comprising:

a tibial implant including a tibial stem configured to be inserted into a tibia;

at least one sensor array positioned within the tibial implant, the at least one sensor array including control circuitry and at least one sensor configured to measure at least one biometric parameter regarding three-dimensional spatial information of the tibial implant at least one bone including the tibia;

an electronic display; and

a processing system in communication with the at least one sensor array via the control circuitry, wherein the processing system includes a processor and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to:

receive the at least one biometric parameter;

determine, using the at least one biometric parameter, relative positioning of the knee implant and the at least one bone;

determine whether data associated with the at least one biometric parameter is outside a predetermined range; and

in response to determining that the at data associated with the at least one biometric parameter is outside the predetermined range, activate an alarm or display a notification on the electronic display.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to display a position of the tibial implant and the at least one bone in relation to each other on the electronic display.

19 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to visually display the tibial implant and the at least one bone in a three-dimensional manner.

20 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the at least one bone includes the tibia and a femur, and wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to measure, using the at least one biometric parameter, a position of the tibial implant relative to the tibia or the femur.
