Abstract

Resources of a system for controlling optically switchable windows may be used for a personal computing unit. The window system resources may include (i) a display associated with an optically switchable window, (ii) one or more processors of one or more controllers on a window network connected to a plurality of optically switchable windows in a building, wherein the one or more controllers are configured to vary tint states of the plurality of optically switchable windows in the building, (iii) memory of one or more controllers on the window network connected to the plurality of optically switchable windows in the building, and/or (iv) at least a part of the window network.

Claims (18)

1. A personal computing unit comprising:

a controller comprising a processor and a network interface, the network interface configured for interfacing with a plurality of optically switchable windows in a building;

a display comprising one of the optically switchable windows; and

logic configured to cause the processor to allocate and control the network interface and the display, to authorize a user to use the personal computing unit, to provide a user interface, to interpret user inputs received via the user interface, and to control outputs presented to the authorized user.

2. The personal computing unit of claim 1 , wherein the personal computing unit is configured to enable an application selected from one or more of email, instant messaging, online chat, telephone, video telephone calls, and video conferencing.

3. The personal computing unit of claim 1 , wherein the personal computing unit is configured to allow sharing, by two or more authorized users, of network and computing resources including one or more selected from a printer, a shared storage device, and data files.

4. The personal computing unit of claim 1 , wherein the logic is configured to choose from the plurality of optically switchable windows a first window for the display based on a proximity of the first window to a location of the authorized user.

5. The personal computing unit of claim 1 , wherein, responsive to movement of the authorized user from a first location to a second location, the logic is configured to choose from the plurality of optically switchable windows a second window for the display based on a proximity of the second window to the second location.

6. A method comprising:

allocating and controlling, by a processor in a controller, a network interface and a display, the display comprising an optically switchable window controlled via the network interface;

authorizing, by the processor, a user to use the processor;

providing, by the processor, a user interface;

interpreting, by the processor, user inputs received via the user interface; and

controlling, by the processor, outputs presented to the authorized user.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising choosing from a plurality of optically switchable windows a first window for the display based on a proximity of the first window to a location of the authorized user.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising, responsive to movement of the authorized user from a first location to a second location, choosing from the plurality of optically switchable windows a second window for the display based on a proximity of the second window to the second location.

9. The method of claim 6 further comprising enabling an application selected from email, instant messaging, online chat, telephone, video telephone calls, and video conferencing.

10. The method of claim 6 further comprising allowing sharing, by two or more authorized users, of network and computing resources selected from a printer, a shared storage device, and data files.
