Abstract

An application processing system provides an interaction with a virtual character to a user. The system outputs an image of a virtual space including the virtual character to a head mounted display. The system determines that a menu icon has been selected based on detection information obtained by the head mounted display. The system sets, based on the menu icon being selected, a first selection point and a second selection point on the virtual character, and determines, based on one or more items of detection information obtained by the head mounted display, that the first selection point or the second selection point has been selected. The system specifies, based on the first selection point being selected, a first user action as an action of the user, and specifies, based on the second selection point being selected, a second user action as an action of the user.

Claims (45)

1. An application processing system for providing an interaction with a virtual character to a user, the application processing system comprising:

memory storing computer program instructions; and

a processor configured to execute the computer program instructions to cause the processor to:

output an image of a virtual space including the virtual character, the image being output to a head mounted display;

determine that a menu icon included in the virtual space has been selected based on a first one or more items of detection information obtained by the head mounted display;

set, based on the menu icon being selected, a first selection point and a second selection point on the virtual character;

determine, based on a second one or more items of detection information obtained by the head mounted display, that the first selection point or the second selection point has been selected;

specify, based on the first selection point being selected, a first user action as an action of the user toward the virtual character, the first user action being associated with the first selection point; and

specify, based on the second selection point being selected, a second user action as an action of the user toward the virtual character, the second user action being associated with the second selection point.

2. The application processing system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more computer processors is further configured to:

cause, based on the first user action being specified as the action toward the virtual character, a first action image corresponding to the first user action to be displayed on the head mounted display; and

cause, based on the second user action being specified as the action toward the virtual character, a second action image corresponding to the second user action and different from the first action image to be displayed on the head mounted display.

3. The application processing system of claim 1 , wherein the menu icon is positioned parallel to one of surfaces of a virtual structure included in the virtual space.

4. The application processing system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first user action or the second user action is associated with a motion of a hand of the user in the virtual space.

5. The application processing system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first user action or the second user action is associated with use of a tool by the user in the virtual space.

6. The application processing system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more computer processors is further configured to:

cause the virtual character to perform a reaction in response to at least one of the first user action or the second user action.

7. The application processing system of claim 1 , wherein the menu icon becomes selectable in response to selection of a specific object included in the virtual space.

8. The application processing system of claim 7 ,

wherein an image of the virtual space is an image in a display area in the virtual space, the display area being centered at a reference line of gaze of the user,

wherein the one or more computer processors is further configured to:

specify a first primary display area in the virtual space for a first scene,

wherein the first primary display area is set to include the reference line of gaze, and

wherein the specific object is located outside the first primary display area for the first scene.

9. The application processing system of claim 8 ,

wherein the one or more computer processors is further configured to:

specify a second primary display area in the virtual space for a second scene,

wherein the second primary display area is set to include the reference line of gaze, and

wherein the specific object is located outside the second primary display area for the second scene.

10. The application processing system of claim 1 , wherein the first user action is different from the second user action.

11. The application processing system of claim 1 , wherein the head amounted display is worn by the user.

12. A method of processing an application for providing an interaction with a virtual character to a user, the method being performed by one or more computer processors executing computer-readable instructions, the method comprising:

outputting an image of a virtual space including the virtual character, the image being output to a head mounted display;

determining that a menu icon included in the virtual space has been selected based on a first one or more items of detection information obtained by the head mounted display;

setting, based on the menu icon being selected, a first selection point and a second selection point on the virtual character;

determining, based on a second one or more items of detection information obtained by the head mounted display, that the first selection point or the second selection point has been selected;

specifying, based on the first selection point being selected, a first user action as an action of the user toward the virtual character, the first user action being associated with the first selection point; and

specifying, based on the second selection point being selected, a second user action as an action of the user toward the virtual character, the second user action being associated with the second selection point.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing an application processing program for providing an interaction with a virtual character to a user, the program being executed by one or more computer processors to effectuate operations comprising:

outputting an image of a virtual space including the virtual character, the image being output to a head mounted display;

determining that a menu icon included in the virtual space has been selected based on a first one or more items of detection information obtained by the head mounted display;

setting, based on the menu icon being selected, a first selection point and a second selection point on the virtual character;

determining, based on a second one or more items of detection information obtained by the head mounted display, that the first selection point or the second selection point has been selected;

specifying, based on the first selection point being selected, a first user action as an action of the user toward the virtual character, the first user action being associated with the first selection point; and

specifying, based on the second selection point being selected, a second user action as an action of the user toward the virtual character, the second user action being associated with the second selection point.
