Abstract

One aspect of the present disclosure includes a delivery tool configured to deliver a neurostimulator into a pterygopalatine fossa of a subject. The neurostimulator can include a body connected to an integral stimulation lead having one or more stimulating electrodes. The delivery tool can comprise a handle, an elongated shaft extending from the handle, a hub portion, and a double barrel sheath. The hub portion can be located between the shaft and a spine member that extends axially away from the hub portion. The hub portion can be sized and dimensioned to releasably mate with the neurostimulator. The double barrel sheath can be connected to the spine member. A central lumen can extend through at least a portion of the shaft and the hub portion. The central lumen can be adapted to receive a lead ejector for selective deployment of the stimulation lead from the double barrel sheath.

Claims (11)

1. A method for deploying an electrode in the skull of a subject, the electrode including a body connected to an integral electrode lead, the method comprising the steps of:

(a) loading the electrode onto a delivery tool;

(b) advancing the delivery tool so that the electrode lead of the electrode is inserted through the skull of the patient;

(c) ejecting the electrode lead from the delivery tool so that the electrode lead is positioned in the skull of the subject, wherein said ejecting the electrode comprises deploying an integral lead ejector from the delivery tool; and

(d) withdrawing the delivery tool so that the electrode lead remains implanted in the subject.

2. The method set forth in claim 1 , wherein steps (b)-(d) are performed using a navigation system.

3. The method set forth in claim 2 , wherein steps (c) and (d) are performed simultaneously.

4. The method set forth in claim 1 , wherein the electrode is a neurostimulator.

5. The method set forth in claim 1 , further comprising delivering an electrical signal through the electrode after said withdrawing the delivery tool.

6. The method set forth in claim 1 , wherein the body of the electrode remains outside the skull after said withdrawing the delivery tool.

7. The method set forth in claim 1 , wherein said loading the electrode comprises releasably coupling the delivery tool to the body of the electrode.
