Wearable system and method for monitoring intoxication
A system for transdermal alcohol sensing to be worn near a skin surface of a user, including: an alcohol sensor; a microporous membrane; a housing coupled to the alcohol sensor and the membrane, defining a volume between the alcohol sensor and a first membrane side, and fluidly isolating the volume from a second membrane side opposing the first membrane side; an electronics subsystem electrically coupled to the alcohol sensor, operable to power and receive signals from the alcohol sensor; and a fastener operable to position the second membrane side proximal the skin surface.
1. A method for alcohol monitoring of a user, the method comprising:
with a transdermal alcohol sensing device, collecting a set of samples from a region proximal to a skin surface of the user;
processing the set of samples to determine a set of intoxication metrics;
processing data collected at a set of supplementary sensors to determine a set of locations associated with the user; and
controlling an electronic display in communication with the transdermal alcohol sensing device based on the set of intoxication metrics and the set of locations.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic display is onboard the transdermal alcohol sensing device.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic display is offboard the transdermal alcohol sensing device.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the electronic display is associated with a remote monitoring entity.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein processing the set of samples is at least partially performed at a first processing subsystem, and wherein processing data collected at the set of supplementary sensors is at least partially performed at a second processing subsystem.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first processing subsystem is separate and distinct from the second processing subsystem.
7. A system for alcohol monitoring of user, the system comprising:
a transdermal alcohol sensor configured to collect a set of samples from a region proximal to a skin surface of the user;
a set of supplementary sensors configured to collect a set of location data; and
a set of processing subsystems in communication with the transdermal alcohol sensor and the set of supplementary sensors, the set of processing subsystems configured to:
determine a set of intoxication metrics based on the set of samples;
determine a set of locations based on the set of location data; and
facilitate control of an electronic display based on the set of intoxication metrics and the set of locations.
8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the set of processing subsystems comprises a first and second processing subsystem, the first processing subsystem separate and distinct from the second processing subsystem.
9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the set of intoxication metrics is determined with the first processing subsystem and wherein the set of locations is determined with the second processing subsystem.
10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the electronic display is onboard the transdermal alcohol sensing device.
11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the electronic display is remote from the transdermal alcohol sensing device.
12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the electronic display is associated with a remote monitoring entity.
13. The system of claim 7 , further comprising a transdermal alcohol sensing device, the transdermal alcohol sensing device comprising the transdermal alcohol sensor, wherein the transdermal alcohol sensing device further comprises a tamper-evident fastener.
14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the set of processing systems is further configured to facilitate control of the electronic display based on the tamper-evident fastener.
15. A method for alcohol monitoring of a user, the method comprising:
with a transdermal alcohol sensing device, collecting a set of samples from a region proximal to a skin surface of the user;
processing the set of samples to determine a set of intoxication metrics;
processing data collected at a biological sensor to determine a set of biological signals associated with the user;
determining a correlation between the set of intoxication metrics and the set of biological signals; and
controlling an electronic display in communication with the transdermal alcohol sensing device based on the set of intoxication metrics and the set of biological signals.
16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the biological sensor comprises a heart rate sensor and the set of biological signals comprises a set of heart rate metrics.
17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising triggering an action based on the correlation.
18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the action comprises controlling the electronic display based on the correlation.
19. The method of claim 18 , wherein controlling the electronic display comprises controlling a provision of a notification at the electronic display.
