Abstract

An illustrative method includes providing, by an orchestrator implemented on top of a plurality of clusters, a client-facing interface; receiving, by the orchestrator by way of the client-facing interface, a request to deploy a containerized application; selecting, by the orchestrator and based on the request, a cluster from the plurality of clusters; and deploying, by the orchestrator, the containerized application to the selected cluster.

Claims (40)

1 . A method comprising;

providing, by an orchestrator implemented on top of a plurality of clusters, a client-facing interface;

receiving, by the orchestrator by way of the client-facing interface, a request to deploy a containerized application;

selecting, by the orchestrator and based on the request, a cluster from the plurality of clusters; and

deploying, by the orchestrator, the containerized application to the selected cluster.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein deploying the containerized application to the selected cluster comprises:

translating the request for an application program interface (API) of the selected cluster; and

sending the translated request to the API of the selected cluster.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein deploying the containerized application to the selected cluster comprises:

sending the request to the selected cluster for processing by a container orchestrator of the selected cluster for deployment of the containerized application within the selected cluster.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the cluster from the plurality of clusters is based on a resource specification of the containerized application, attributes of the plurality of clusters, and a deployment policy.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of clusters includes a first cluster providing a first feature set and a second cluster providing a second feature set different from the first feature set.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the orchestrator provides a standardization for interfacing with the first cluster and the second cluster.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the orchestrator provides an abstraction layer encapsulating the plurality of clusters.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of clusters are accessible by way of the client-facing interface provided by the orchestrator.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the client-facing interface provided by the orchestrator comprises a management endpoint for the plurality of clusters.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

migrating, by the orchestrator, the containerized application from the selected cluster to another cluster of the plurality of clusters.

11 . A system comprising:

one or more memories storing computer-executable instructions; and

one or more processors to execute the computer-executable instructions to:

receive, by way of a client-facing interface provided by an orchestrator implemented on top of a plurality of clusters, a request to deploy a containerized application;

select, by the orchestrator and based on the request, a cluster from the plurality of clusters; and

deploy, by the orchestrator, the containerized application to the selected cluster.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein deploying the containerized application to the selected cluster comprises:

translating the request for an application program interface (API) of the selected cluster; and

sending the translated request to the API of the selected cluster.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein deploying the containerized application to the selected cluster comprises:

sending the request to the selected cluster for processing by a container orchestrator of the selected cluster for deployment of the containerized application within the selected cluster.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein selecting the cluster from the plurality of clusters is based on a resource specification of the containerized application, attributes of the plurality of clusters, and a deployment policy.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of clusters includes a first cluster providing a first feature set and a second cluster providing a second feature set different from the first feature set.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the orchestrator provides a standardization for interfacing with the first cluster and the second cluster.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the orchestrator provides an abstraction layer encapsulating the plurality of clusters.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the client-facing interface provided by the orchestrator comprises a management endpoint for the plurality of clusters.

19 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more processors further execute the computer-executable instructions to:

migrate the containerized application from the selected cluster to another cluster of the plurality of clusters.

20 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, direct one or more computer processors to:

receive, by way of a client-facing interface provided by an orchestrator implemented on top of a plurality of clusters, a request to deploy a containerized application;

select, by the orchestrator and based on the request, a cluster from the plurality of clusters; and

deploy, by the orchestrator, the containerized application to the selected cluster.
