Abstract

Methods and systems for providing a video stream along with a slow motion video showing a particular event depicted in the video stream are described herein. The method includes generating a first video stream and generating a second video stream, which is a slow motion video stream, from the first video stream by modifying a playback speed of the first video stream. The method includes monitoring content of the first video stream to identify an event trigger of a predefined set of event triggers. Each event trigger indicates a presence in the first video stream of an event that is to be generated for display using the second video stream. The method includes determining, based on the identifying of the event trigger, to transmit the second video stream along with the first video stream, and simultaneously transmitting both the first video stream and the second video stream.

Claims (60)

1. A method for displaying a slow-motion replay of a stream, the method comprising:

receiving a content stream;

detecting an event trigger in the content stream;

in response to detecting the event trigger, generating a slow-motion replay of a portion of the content stream;

wherein detecting an event trigger in the content stream further comprises:

monitoring content of the content stream to identify a first factor of the event trigger;

monitoring content of the content stream to identify a second factor of the event trigger; and

based on identifying the first factor and the second factor, detecting the event trigger, wherein the event trigger is not identified when the first factor is identified and the second factor is not identified, and wherein the event trigger is not identified when the second factor is identified and the first factor is not identified.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the slow-motion replay and the content stream are simultaneously provided for display.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the slow-motion replay is generated as a second stream of the portion of the content stream.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the slow-motion replay is generated by reducing a frame rate of the content stream such that the content stream is played back at a reduced speed.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the reduced speed is based on one or more of: a type of event associated with the event trigger or an amount of visual change between frames of the content stream.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein an event is detected based on at least one selected from the following associated with the content stream: metadata, captions, audio, social media.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving data describing an interaction involving a user equipment; and

monitoring the data describing the interaction to identify in the interaction a reference to the event trigger;

wherein generating a slow-motion replay of a portion of the content stream is further based on the identifying in the interaction the reference to the event trigger.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein monitoring the data describing the interaction to identify in the interaction the reference to the event trigger comprises:

comparing contents of the data describing the interaction to metadata corresponding to an event;

determining, based on the comparison, that the interaction relates to the event; and

determining, based on the contents of the data describing the interaction, that the interaction indicates an interest in the event.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting an event trigger in the content stream further comprises:

receiving a social media feed related to the content stream;

identifying the event trigger based on the social media feed related to the content stream.

10. A system for displaying a slow-motion replay of a stream, the system comprising:

input/output circuitry configured to receive a content stream; and

processing circuitry configured to:

detect an event trigger in the content stream;

in response to detecting the event trigger, generate a slow-motion replay of a portion of the content stream;

wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to detect an event trigger in the content stream by:

monitoring content of the content stream to identify a first factor of the event trigger;

monitoring content of the content stream to identify a second factor of the event trigger; and

based on identifying the first factor and the second factor, detecting the event trigger, wherein the event trigger is not identified when the first factor is identified and the second factor is not identified, and wherein the event trigger is not identified when the second factor is identified and the first factor is not identified.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the slow-motion replay and the content stream are simultaneously provided for display, by the processing circuitry.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the slow-motion replay is generated, by the processing circuitry, as a second stream of the portion of the content stream.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the slow-motion replay is generated, by the processing circuitry, by reducing a frame rate of the content stream such that the content stream is played back at a reduced speed.

14. The system of claim 10 , wherein the reduced speed is based on one or more of: a type of event associated with the event trigger or an amount of visual change between frames of the content stream.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein an event is detected, by the processing circuitry, based on at least one selected from the following associated with the content stream: metadata, captions, audio, social media.

16. The system of claim 10 , wherein

the input/output circuitry is further configured to receive data describing an interaction involving a user equipment; and

the processing circuitry is further configured to:

monitor the data describing the interaction to identify in the interaction a reference to the event trigger;

wherein generating a slow-motion replay of a portion of the content stream is further based on the identifying in the interaction the reference to the event trigger.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to monitor the data describing the interaction to identify in the interaction the reference to the event trigger by:

comparing contents of the data describing the interaction to metadata corresponding to an event;

determining, based on the comparison, that the interaction relates to the event; and

determining, based on the contents of the data describing the interaction, that the interaction indicates an interest in the event.

18. The system of claim 10 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to detect an event trigger in the content stream by:

receiving a social media feed related to the content stream;

identifying the event trigger based on the social media feed related to the content stream.

19. A method for displaying a slow-motion replay of a stream, the method comprising:

receiving a content stream;

monitoring content of the content stream to identify a first factor of the event trigger;

monitoring content of the content stream to identify a second factor of the event trigger; and

detecting the event trigger, wherein the event trigger is only detected when both the first factor is identified and the second factor is identified, and wherein the event trigger is not detected when either the first factor is not identified or the second factor is not identified; and

in response to detecting the event trigger, generating a slow-motion replay of a portion of the content stream.

20. The method of claim 19 further comprising:

receiving data describing an interaction involving a user equipment; and

monitoring the data describing the interaction to identify in the interaction a reference to the event trigger;

wherein generating a slow-motion replay of a portion of the content stream is further based on the identifying in the interaction the reference to the event trigger.
