Abstract

A hydraulic fracturing system includes a support structure having a first area at a first height and a second area at a second height, the first and second areas adjacent one another. The system also includes an electric powered, multi-plunger pump with an odd number of plungers, arranged in the first area, the electric powered pump coupled to a well, via outlet piping, and powered by at least one electric motor, also arranged in the first area. The system further includes a variable frequency drive (VFD), arranged in the second area, connected to the at least one electric motor, the VFD configured to control at least a speed of the at least one electric motor. The system also includes a transformer, arranged in the second area, the transformer positioned within an enclosure with the VFD, the transformer distributing power to the electric pump.

Claims (59)

1. A hydraulic fracturing system, comprising:

a first hydraulic fracturing unit, comprising:

a first support structure having a first length;

two or more first electric pumps arranged on the first support structure, the two or more first electric pumps being quintuplex pumps; and

at least one first electric motor to power the two or more first electric pumps; and

a second hydraulic fracturing unit, comprising:

a second support structure having a second length;

a second electric pump arranged on the second support structure, the second electric pump having seven or more plungers; and

at least one second electric motor to power the second electric pump;

wherein a first pumping capacity of the first hydraulic fracturing unit is substantially equal to a second pumping capacity of the second hydraulic fracturing unit.

2. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 1 , wherein the first length is greater than the second length.

3. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 1 , wherein the second hydraulic fracturing unit further comprises:

a variable frequency drive (VFD), arranged on the second support structure, connected to the at least one second electric motor, the VFD positioned within an enclosure; and

a transformer, arranged on the second support structure, configured to distribute power for operation of the second electric pump, the power being received from at least one generator at a voltage higher than an operating voltage of the second electric pump.

4. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 1 , wherein second bores of the second electric pump are larger than first bores of the two or more first electric pumps.

5. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 1 , wherein the second electric pump is rated for up to 5,000 HHP.

6. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 1 , wherein the second electric pump includes at least one of nine plungers or 11 plungers.

7. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 1 , wherein the second support structure is a skid, a trailer, a platform, a bed, or a combination thereof.

8. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 3 , wherein the enclosure includes:

a subframe, separate from a frame of the second support structure.

9. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 8 , further comprising:

a set of dampers between the subframe and the frame.

10. A hydraulic fracturing system, comprising:

at least one generator;

a first hydraulic fracturing unit, comprising:

a first support structure having a first length;

two or more first electric-powered pumps arranged on the first support structure, the two or more first electric-powered pumps being quintuplex pumps; and

at least one first electric motor to power the two or more first electric-powered pumps; and

a second hydraulic fracturing unit, comprising:

a second support structure having a second length;

a second electric-powered pump arranged on the second support structure, the second electric-powered pump having seven or more plungers; and

at least one second electric motor to power the second electric-powered pump;

wherein a first pumping capacity of the first hydraulic fracturing unit is substantially equal to a second pumping capacity of the second hydraulic fracturing unit, and power being received from the at least one generator to power the second electric-powered pump is at a voltage higher than an operating voltage of the second electric-powered pump.

11. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 10 , wherein the first length is greater than the second length.

12. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 10 , wherein the second hydraulic fracturing unit further comprises:

a variable frequency drive (VFD), arranged on the second support structure, connected to the at least one second electric motor, the VFD positioned within an enclosure; and

a transformer, arranged on the second support structure, configured to distribute power for operation of the second electric-powered pump.

13. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 10 , wherein second bores of the second electric-powered pump are larger than first bores of the two or more first electric-powered pumps.

14. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 10 , wherein the second electric-powered pump is rated for up to 5,000 HHP.

15. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 10 , wherein the second electric-powered pump includes at least one of nine plungers or 11 plungers.

16. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 10 , wherein the second support structure is a skid, a trailer, a platform, a bed, or a combination thereof.

17. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 12 , wherein the enclosure includes:

a subframe, separate from a frame of the second support structure.

18. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 17 , further comprising:

a set of dampers between the subframe and the frame.

19. A hydraulic fracturing system, comprising:

at least one generator;

a first hydraulic fracturing unit, comprising:

a first support structure having a first length;

two or more first electric-powered pumps arranged on the first support structure, the two or more first electric-powered pumps being quintuplex pumps; and

at least one first electric motor to power the two or more first electric-powered pumps; and

a second hydraulic fracturing unit, comprising:

a second support structure having a second length;

a second electric-powered pump arranged on the second support structure, the second electric-powered pump having seven or more plungers;

at least one second electric motor to power the second electric-powered pump;

a variable frequency drive (VFD) connected to the at least one second electric motor, the VFD configured to control at least a speed of the at least one second electric motor; and

a transformer configured to distribute power for operation of the second electric-powered pump;

wherein a first pumping capacity of the first hydraulic fracturing unit is substantially equal to a second pumping capacity of the second hydraulic fracturing unit, and the power being received at the transformer from the at least one generator to power the second electric-powered power is at a voltage higher than an operating voltage of the second electric-powered pump.

20. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 19 , wherein the first length is greater than the second length.
