Abstract

A base station central unit control plane (CU-CP) receives, from a base station distributed unit (DU), an indication of completion of a small data transmission (SDT) procedure of a wireless device. The base station CU-CP sends, to the wireless device via the base station DU, a radio resource control (RRC) release message based on the indication of the completion.

Claims (39)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a base station central unit control plane (CU-CP) from a base station distributed unit (DU), a radio resource control (RRC) resume request message for a small data transmission (SDT) procedure of a wireless device;

receiving, by the base station CU-CP from the base station DU, an indication message indicating inactivity notification and completion of the SDT procedure; and

sending, by the base station CU-CP to the wireless device via the base station DU, a radio resource control (RRC) release message based on the indication message.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the RRC request message is received by the base station CU-CP from the wireless device via the base station DU.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the indication message comprises an information element indicating a size of downlink data to transmit to the wireless device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sending the RRC release message is based on the completion of the SDT procedure.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising initiating, by the base station CU-CP, an RRC release procedure based on the completion of the SDT procedure, wherein the RRC release procedure comprises the sending the RRC release message.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the RRC release message indicates that the wireless device stays in an RRC inactive state or an RRC idle state.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the RRC release message comprises configuration parameters for suspension of an RRC connection.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sending the RRC release message comprises sending the RRC release message within a context release command message.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein an indication message comprising the indication of the completion of the SDT procedure comprises a bearer identifier of a bearer associated with the completion of the SDT procedure.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the SDT procedure comprises one or more of:

an initial uplink data transmission;

an initial downlink data transmission; or

at least one subsequent data transmission.

11. A method comprising:

sending, by a base station distributed unit (DU) to a base station central unit control plane (CU-CP), a radio resource control (RRC) resume request message for a small data transmission (SDT) procedure of a wireless device;

receiving, by the base station DU, data associated with the SDT procedure;

determining, based on the receiving the data, completion of the SDT procedure; and

sending, by the base station DU to the base station CU-CP, an indication message indicating inactivity notification and the completion of the SDT procedure.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising receiving, by the base station DU from the base station CU-CP, a context release command message indicating releasing an RRC connection of the wireless device.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the context release command message comprises a radio resource control (RRC) release message associated with the wireless device.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising sending, by the base station DU to the wireless device, the RRC release message.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the sending the RRC release message is based on the completion of the SDT procedure.

16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the RRC release message indicates that the wireless device stays in an RRC inactive state or an RRC idle state.

17. The method of claim 13 , wherein the RRC release message comprises configuration parameters for suspension of the RRC connection.

18. The method of claim 11 , further comprising receiving, by the base station DU, the RRC request message from the wireless device.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the indication message comprises an information element indicating a size of downlink data to transmit to the wireless device.

20. A system comprising:

a base station distributed unit (DU) comprising: one or more processors and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station DU to perform operations comprising:

sending, to a base station central unit control plane (CU-CP), a radio resource control (RRC) resume request message for a small data transmission (SDT) procedure of a wireless device;

receiving data associated with the SDT procedure;

determining, based on the receiving the data, completion of the SDT procedure; and

sending, to the base station CU-CP, an indication message indicating inactivity notification and the completion of the SDT procedure; and

the base station CU-CP, wherein the base station CU-CP comprises: one or more processors and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station CU-CP to:

receive, from the base station DU, the RRC resume request message;

receive, from the base station DU, the indication message indicating the inactivity notification and the completion of the SDT procedure; and

send, to the wireless device via the base station DU, a radio resource control (RRC) release message based on the indication message.
