Abstract

A processor-implemented method comprises displaying a user interface for responding to a first message; receiving a second message after the first message; and displaying an update message that indicates receipt of the second message.

Claims (50)

1 . A system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the memory including instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

display a user interface for responding to a first message;

receive a second message after the first message; and

display an update message that indicates receipt of the second message.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first message belongs to a thread of messages.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the second message belongs to the thread of messages.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

determine that the second message belongs to a same thread of messages as the first message.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein a determination that the second message belongs to the same thread of messages as the first message comprises a comparison of subject line text of the second message to subject line text of the first message.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

determine that the second message was received after the first message by a comparison of a time and date of receipt of the first message to a time and date of receipt of the second message.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the update message includes a number of messages in a thread of messages.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the user interface displays the first message.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first message and the second message are email messages in a thread of email messages.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

update the update message while the user interface is displayed each time a message is received after the first message.

11 . A processor-implemented method comprising:

displaying a user interface for responding to a first message;

receiving a second message after the first message; and

displaying an update message that indicates receipt of the second message.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the first message belongs to a thread of messages.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the second message belongs to the thread of messages.

14 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

determining that the second message belongs to a same thread of messages as the first message.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein determining that the second message belongs to the same thread of messages as the first message comprises comparing subject line text of the second message to subject line text of the first message.

16 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

determining that the second message was received after the first message by comparing a time and date of receipt of the first message to a time and date of receipt of the second message.

17 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the update message includes a number of messages in a thread of messages.

18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the user interface displays the first message.

19 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the first message and the second message are email messages in a thread of email messages.

20 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

updating the update message while the user interface is displayed each time a message is received after the first message.

21 . A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:

display a user interface for responding to a first message;

receive a second message after the first message; and

display an update message that indicates receipt of the second message.

22 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the first message belongs to a thread of messages.

23 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 22 , wherein the second message belongs to the thread of messages.

24 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

determine that the second message belongs to a same thread of messages as the first message.

25 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 24 , wherein a determination that the second message belongs to the same thread of messages as the first message comprises a comparison of subject line text of the second message to subject line text of the first message.

26 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

determine that the second message was received after the first message by a comparison of a time and date of receipt of the first message to a time and date of receipt of the second message.

27 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the update message includes a number of messages in a thread of messages.

28 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the user interface displays the first message.

29 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the first message and the second message are email messages in a thread of email messages.

30 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

update the update message while the user interface is displayed each time a message is received after the first message.
