Abstract

Methods and systems are described herein for a media guidance application that allows users to associate input schemes with physical objects in an augmented reality environment. Specifically, the media guidance application may recognize physical objects in an augmented reality environment and allow users to identify input schemes to associate with the physical objects, wherein the input schemes are ways in which users may control presentation of media content by interacting with the physical objects.

Claims (40)

1. A method comprising:

receiving an input for selecting an input scheme, wherein the selecting the input scheme comprises: identifying a physical device and a second device, and designating the physical device for controlling audio output of the second device, wherein the second device is separate from the physical device;

monitoring the physical device to determine a speed of a part of the physical device; and

modifying a volume of the audio output of the second device based on the speed of the part of the physical device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein a movement of the part of the physical device that is monitored for speed is a rotation of the part of the physical device.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein a faster rotation of the part of the physical device increases the volume of the audio output of the second device.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein a slower rotation of the part of the physical device decreases the volume of the audio output of the second device.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying the physical device in an augmented reality environment via a camera in an augmented reality headset; and

receiving a user input for selecting the input scheme to assign the physical device as a control device.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the receiving the user input for selecting the input scheme to assign the physical device as the control device comprises:

receiving a voice input identifying the volume of the audio output of the second device to be controlled and a gesture input moving the part of the physical device.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the physical device is an exercise bike and the gesture input comprises moving pedals of the exercise bike.

8. A system comprising:

input/output circuitry configured to:

receive an input for selecting an input scheme, wherein the selecting the input scheme comprises: identifying a physical device and a second device, and designating the physical device for controlling audio output of the second device, wherein the second device is separate from the physical device; and

control circuitry configured to:

monitor the physical device to determine a speed of a part of the physical device; and

modify a volume of the audio output of the second device based on the speed of the part of the physical device.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein a movement of the part of the physical device that is monitored for speed is a rotation of the part of the physical device.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein a faster rotation of the part of the physical device increases the volume of the audio output of the second device.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein a slower rotation of the part of the physical device decreases the volume of the audio output of the second device.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

identify the physical device in an augmented reality environment via a camera in an augmented reality headset, and wherein the input/output circuitry is further configured to:

receive a user input for selecting the input scheme to assign the physical device as a control device.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the input/output circuitry is configured to receive the user input for selecting the input scheme to assign the physical device as the control device by:

receiving a voice input identifying the volume of the audio output of the second device to be controlled and a gesture input moving the part of the physical device.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the physical device is an exercise bike and the gesture input comprises moving pedals of the exercise bike.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions encoded thereon that when executed by control circuitry cause the control circuitry to:

receive an input for selecting an input scheme, wherein the selecting the input scheme comprises: identifying a physical device and a second device, and designating the physical device for controlling audio output of the second device, wherein the second device is separate from the physical device;

monitor the physical device to determine a speed of a part of the physical device; and

modify a volume of the audio output of the second device based on the speed of the part of the physical device.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein a movement of the part of the physical device that is monitored for speed is a rotation of the part of the physical device.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein a faster rotation of the part of the physical device increases the volume of the audio output of the second device.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein a slower rotation of the part of the physical device decreases the volume of the audio output of the second device.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions cause the control circuitry to further:

identify the physical device in an augmented reality environment via a camera in an augmented reality headset; and

receive a user input for selecting the input scheme to assign the physical device as a control device.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions cause the control circuitry to receive the user input for selecting the input scheme to assign the physical device as the control device by:

receiving a voice input identifying the volume of the audio output of the second device to be controlled and a gesture input moving the part of the physical device, wherein the physical device is an exercise bike and the gesture input comprises moving pedals of the exercise bike.
