Cell activation and deactivation in a wireless network
A wireless device may be instructed to activate a cell. The wireless device may activate a cell and start a timer. The wireless device may receive downlink control information (DCI). The DCI may indicate monitoring of a downlink control channel or may indicate a resource grant. The wireless device may monitor the downlink control channel and start another timer. The wireless device may receive the resource grant while one or more timers are running.
1. A method comprising:
receiving, by a wireless device, a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) that indicates activation of a cell, and starting a first timer;
based on downlink control information (DCI) that indicates monitoring of a downlink control channel, starting a second timer; and
based on one or more of the first timer expiring or receiving a second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stopping the second timer.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising restarting, based on second DCI, the second timer.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cell comprises a secondary cell.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the DCI is addressed to a temporary identifier associated with the wireless device.
5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the temporary identifier is a cell radio network temporary identifier (CRNTI).
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first timer comprises a deactivation timer for the cell.
7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving configuration parameters comprising:
a first value for the first timer; and
a second value for the second timer.
8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, based on the receiving the MAC CE that indicates activation of the cell, activating the cell.
9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, based on the DCI that indicates monitoring of the downlink control channel, monitoring the downlink control channel.
10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, based on one or more of the first timer expiring or the receiving the second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stopping monitoring of the downlink control channel.
11. A method comprising:
transmitting, by a base station, a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) that indicates activation of a cell, and starting a first timer;
based on downlink control information (DCI) that indicates monitoring of a downlink control channel, starting a second timer; and
based on one or more of the first timer expiring or transmitting a second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stopping the second timer.
12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising restarting, based on second DCI, the second timer.
13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the cell comprises a secondary cell.
14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the DCI is addressed to a temporary identifier associated with a wireless device.
15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the temporary identifier is a cell radio network temporary identifier (CRNTI).
16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the first timer comprises a deactivation timer for the cell.
17. The method of claim 11 , further comprising transmitting configuration parameters comprising:
a first value for the first timer; and
a second value for the second timer.
18. The method of claim 11 , further comprising, based on transmitting the MAC CE that indicates activation of the cell, activating the cell.
19. A wireless device comprising:
one or more processors; and
memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:
receive a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) that indicates activation of a cell, and start a first timer;
based on downlink control information (DCI) that indicates monitoring of a downlink control channel, start a second timer; and
based on one or more of the first timer expiring or receiving a second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stop the second timer.
20. The wireless device of claim 19 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to restart, based on second DCI, the second timer.
21. The wireless device of claim 19 , wherein the cell comprises a secondary cell.
22. The wireless device of claim 19 , wherein the DCI is addressed to a temporary identifier associated with the wireless device.
23. The wireless device of claim 22 , wherein the temporary identifier is a cell radio network temporary identifier (CRNTI).
24. The wireless device of claim 19 , wherein the first timer comprises a deactivation timer for the cell.
25. The wireless device of claim 19 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to receive configuration parameters comprising:
a first value for the first timer; and
a second value for the second timer.
26. The wireless device of claim 19 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to, based on the wireless device receiving the MAC CE that indicates activation of the cell, activate the cell.
27. The wireless device of claim 19 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to, based on the DCI that indicates monitoring of the downlink control channel, monitor the downlink control channel.
28. The wireless device of claim 19 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to, based on one or more of the first timer expiring or the receiving the second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stop monitoring of the downlink control channel.
29. A base station comprising:
one or more processors; and
instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station to:
transmit a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) that indicates activation of a cell, and start a first timer;
based on downlink control information (DCI) that indicates monitoring of a downlink control channel, start a second timer; and
based on one or more of the first timer expiring or transmitting a second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stopping the second timer.
30. The base station of claim 29 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station to restart, based on second DCI, the second timer.
31. The base station of claim 29 , wherein the cell comprises a secondary cell.
32. The base station of claim 29 , wherein the DCI is addressed to a temporary identifier associated with a wireless device.
33. The base station of claim 32 , wherein the temporary identifier is a cell radio network temporary identifier (CRNTI).
34. The base station of claim 29 , wherein the first timer comprises a deactivation timer for the cell.
35. The base station of claim 29 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station to transmit configuration parameters comprising:
a first value for the first timer; and
a second value for the second timer.
36. The base station of claim 29 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station to, based on the base station transmitting the MAC CE that indicates activation of the cell, activate the cell.
37. A system comprising:
a base station; and
a wireless device;
wherein the base station is configured to transmit a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) that indicates activation of a cell; and
wherein at least one of the base station or the wireless device is configured to:
based on the MAC CE, start a first timer;
based on downlink control information (DCI) that indicates monitoring of a downlink control channel, start a second timer; and
based on one or more of the first timer expiring or receiving a second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stop the second timer.
38. The system of claim 37 , wherein at least one of the base station or the wireless device is further configured to restart, based on second DCI, the second timer.
39. The system of claim 37 , wherein the cell comprises a secondary cell.
40. The system of claim 37 , wherein the DCI is addressed to a temporary identifier associated with the wireless device.
41. The system of claim 40 , wherein the temporary identifier is a cell radio network temporary identifier (CRNTI).
42. The system of claim 37 , wherein the first timer comprises a deactivation timer for the cell.
43. The system of claim 37 , wherein the base station is further configured to transmit configuration parameters comprising:
a first value for the first timer; and
a second value for the second timer.
44. The system of claim 37 , wherein at least one of the base station or the wireless device is further configured to, based on the MAC CE that indicates activation of the cell, activate the cell.
45. The system of claim 37 , wherein the wireless device is further configured to, based on the DCI that indicates monitoring of the downlink control channel, monitor the downlink control channel.
46. The system of claim 37 , wherein the wireless device is further configured to, based on one or more of the first timer expiring or the receiving the second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stop monitoring of the downlink control channel.
47. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed, configure a wireless device to:
receive a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) that indicates activation of a cell, and start a first timer;
based on downlink control information (DCI) that indicates monitoring of a downlink control channel, start a second timer; and
based on one or more of the first timer expiring or receiving a second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stop the second timer.
48. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 47 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further configure the wireless device to restart, based on second DCI, the second timer.
49. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 47 , wherein the cell comprises a secondary cell.
50. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 47 , wherein the DCI is addressed to a temporary identifier associated with the wireless device.
51. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 50 , wherein the temporary identifier is a cell radio network temporary identifier (CRNTI).
52. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 47 , wherein the first timer comprises a deactivation timer for the cell.
53. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 47 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further configure the wireless device to receive configuration parameters comprising:
a first value for the first timer; and
a second value for the second timer.
54. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 47 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further configure the wireless device to, based on the receiving the MAC CE that indicates activation of the cell, activate the cell.
55. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 47 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further configure the wireless device to, based on the DCI that indicates monitoring of the downlink control channel, monitor the downlink control channel.
56. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 47 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further configure the wireless device to, based on one or more of the first timer expiring or the receiving the second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stop monitoring of the downlink control channel.
57. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed, configure a base station to:
transmit, a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) that indicates activation of a cell, and start a first timer;
based on downlink control information (DCI) that indicates monitoring of a downlink control channel, start a second timer; and
based on one or more of the first timer expiring or transmitting a second MAC CE that indicates deactivation of the cell, stop the second timer.
58. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 57 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further configure the base station to restart, based on second DCI, the second timer.
59. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 57 , wherein the cell comprises a secondary cell.
60. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 57 , wherein the DCI is addressed to a temporary identifier associated with a wireless device.
61. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 60 , wherein the temporary identifier is a cell radio network temporary identifier (CRNTI).
62. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 57 , wherein the first timer comprises a deactivation timer for the cell.
63. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 57 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further configure the base station to transmit configuration parameters comprising:
a first value for the first timer; and
a second value for the second timer.
64. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 57 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further configure the base station to, based on transmitting the MAC CE that indicates activation of the cell, activate the cell.
