Abstract

Methods, apparatus and computer program product that may include receiving, by one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from a client of a first user with administrative privileges and associated with a first organization, a request to generate a shared communication channel on the group-based communication platform. A shared communication channel may be generated based on the request. A second request may be received by the one or more servers to provide at least one second user associated with a second organization access to the shared communication channel. Access may be provided to the second user. A message communication may be rendered in a shared communication channel interface associated with the shared communication channel with a graphical indicator that indicates the message communication is associated with the first organization.

Claims (40)

1. An apparatus comprising at least one processor and at least one non-transitory memory comprising program code, the at least one non-transitory memory and the program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least:

receive, by one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from a client of a first user of a plurality of first users associated with a first organization, a first communication comprising a first request to generate a shared communication channel on the group-based communication platform and make the shared communication channel accessible to a plurality of client devices associated with the plurality of first users, wherein the first user is associated with one or more administrative privileges;

based at least in part on the first communication, generate, by the one or more servers, the shared communication channel;

receive, by the one or more servers and from the client, a second communication comprising a second request to provide access to the shared communication channel to at least one second user associated with a second organization;

based at least in part on the second communication, provide, by the one or more servers, the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user associated with the second organization; and

cause rendering of a message communication with a graphical indicator within a shared communication channel interface associated with the shared communication channel, wherein the graphical indicator indicates that the message communication is associated with the first organization.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user is based at least in part on configuring, by the one or more servers, organization accounts of the first organization and the second organization with the group-based communication platform to allow inter-organizational sharing of one or more communication channels.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user comprises providing the access to one or more applications associated with the first organization to the at least one second user.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more administrative privileges include authorization to delete the shared communication channel.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the program code is further configured to cause the apparatus to at least cause presentation, by the one or more servers, of a user interface on a display of the client, and wherein providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user is at least partly responsive to actuation of an actuation mechanism presented via the user interface.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein receiving the second communication is responsive at least in part to the client receiving a third request from another client of another first user of the plurality of first users to provide the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the program code is further configured to cause the apparatus to at least:

based at least in part on providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user, send, by the one or more servers, a notification of the access to the at least one second user.

8. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions executable by one or more processors that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:

receive, by one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from a client of a first user of a plurality of first users associated with a first organization, a first communication comprising a first request to generate a shared communication channel on the group-based communication platform and make the shared communication channel accessible to a plurality of client devices associated with the plurality of first users, wherein the first user is associated with one or more administrative privileges;

based at least in part on the first communication, generate, by the one or more servers, the shared communication channel;

receive, by the one or more servers and from the client, a second communication comprising a second request to provide access to the shared communication channel to at least one second user associated with a second organization;

based at least in part on the second communication, provide, by the one or more servers, the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user the second organization; and cause rendering of a message communication with a graphical indicator within a shared communication channel interface associated with the shared communication channel, wherein the graphical indicator indicates that the message communication is associated with the first organization.

9. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , wherein providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user is based at least in part on configuring, by the one or more servers, organization accounts of the first organization and the second organization with the group-based communication platform to allow inter-organizational sharing of one or more communication channels.

10. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , wherein providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user comprises providing the access to one or more applications associated with the first organization to the at least one second user.

11. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , wherein the one or more administrative privileges include authorization to delete the shared communication channel.

12. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , the acts further comprising causing presentation, by the one or more servers, of a user interface on a display of the client, and wherein providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user is at least partly responsive to actuation of an actuation mechanism presented via the user interface.

13. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , wherein receiving the second request to provide the at least one second user the access to the shared communication channel is responsive at least in part to the client receiving a third request from another client of another first user of the plurality of first users to provide the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user.

14. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , the acts further comprising:

based at least in part on providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user, sending, by the one or more servers, a notification of the access to the at least one second user.

15. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions executable by the one or more processors, wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:

determining, by one or more servers of a group-based communication platform, an association between a plurality of first users of the group-based communication platform and a first organization;

receiving, by the one or more servers and from a client of a first user of the plurality of first users, a first request to generate a shared communication channel for communications between one or more of the plurality of first users, wherein the first user is associated with one or more administrative privileges;

generating, by the one or more servers, the shared communication channel;

providing, by the one or more servers and to the one or more of the plurality of first users, access to the shared communication channel;

receiving, by the one or more servers and from the client, a second communication comprising a second request to provide the access to the shared communication channel to at least one second user associated with a second organization;

providing, based at least in part on receiving the second request, and by the one or more servers, the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user for communications between the at least one second user and the one or more of the plurality of first users; and

causing, by the one or more servers, rendering of a message communication with a graphical indicator within a shared communication channel interface associated with the shared communication channel, wherein the graphical indicator indicates that the message communication is associated with the first organization.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user is based at least in part on configuring, by the one or more servers, organization accounts of the first organization and the second organization with the group-based communication platform to allow inter-organizational sharing of one or more communication channels.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user comprises providing the access to one or more applications associated with the first organization to the at least one second user.

18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the one or more administrative privileges include authorization to delete the shared communication channel.

19. The system of claim 15 , the acts further comprising causing presentation, by the one or more servers, of a user interface on a display of the client, and wherein providing the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user is at least partly responsive to actuation of an actuation mechanism presented via the user interface.

20. The system of claim 15 , wherein receiving the second request to provide the at least one second user the access to the shared communication channel is responsive at least in part to the client receiving a third request from another client of another first user of the plurality of first users to provide the access to the shared communication channel to the at least one second user.
