Abstract

A user equipment (UE) and a method for sidelink failure management are provided. The method includes determining that a sidelink failure event associated with a paired sidelink destination UE has occurred and transmitting, to a first cell, a sidelink failure report indicating the sidelink failure event.

Claims (48)

1. A user equipment (UE) for performing sidelink failure management, the UE comprising:

at least one processor; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing one or more computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the UE to:

determine that a sidelink failure event associated with a paired sidelink destination UE has occurred;

receive, from a second cell, a message associated with a handover procedure, the message comprising a sidelink Radio Resource Control (RRC) configuration associated with a first cell; and

transmit, to the first cell, a sidelink failure report indicating the sidelink failure event,

wherein the UE determines that the sidelink failure event has occurred before being configured with the sidelink RRC configuration associated with the first cell.

2. The UE of claim 1 ,

wherein the UE determines that the sidelink failure event has occurred also before receiving the sidelink RRC configuration associated with the first cell.

3. The UE of claim 1 , wherein:

the sidelink failure event comprises a sidelink RRC reconfiguration failure event for a PC5 RRC connection between the UE and the paired sidelink destination UE, and

the sidelink failure report includes a cause of failure variable and a UE identifier (ID) associated with the paired sidelink destination UE, the cause of failure variable having a value that indicates the sidelink RRC reconfiguration failure as a source of sidelink failure.

4. The UE of claim 1 , wherein:

the sidelink failure event comprises a sidelink RRC reconfiguration failure event for a PC5 RRC connection between the UE and the paired sidelink destination UE,

determining that the sidelink failure event associated with the paired sidelink destination UE has occurred comprises determining that the sidelink failure event has occurred after receiving a sidelink reconfiguration failure report from the paired sidelink destination UE via a PC5 interface, and

the sidelink failure report includes a cause of failure variable and a UE identifier (ID) associated with the paired sidelink destination UE, the cause of failure variable having a value that indicates the sidelink RRC reconfiguration failure as a source of sidelink failure.

5. The UE of claim 1 , wherein:

the sidelink failure event comprises a sidelink radio link failure event for a PC5 RRC connection between the UE and the paired sidelink destination UE, and

the sidelink failure report includes a cause of failure variable and a UE identifier (ID) associated with the paired sidelink destination UE, the cause of failure variable having a value that indicates the radio link failure as a source of sidelink failure.

6. The UE of claim 1 , wherein

the first cell, the sidelink RRC configuration comprises at least one of a UE-specific dedicated sidelink RRC configuration and a cell-specific common sidelink RRC configuration.

7. The UE of claim 1 , wherein:

the message indicates to the UE to perform a handover procedure from the second cell to the first cell, and

transmitting, to the first cell, the sidelink failure report indicating the sidelink failure event comprises transmitting, to the first cell, the sidelink failure report after performing the handover procedure to switch from the second cell to the first cell based on the message.

8. The UE of claim 7 , wherein transmitting, to the first cell, the sidelink failure report indicating the sidelink failure event further comprises transmitting, to the first cell, the sidelink failure report also after receiving, via broadcast, a system information block 12 (SIB 12) from the first cell, the SIB 12 indicating a sidelink operation associated with the first cell.

9. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) for sidelink failure management, the method comprising:

determining that a sidelink failure event associated with a paired sidelink destination UE has occurred;

receiving, from a second cell, a message associated with a handover procedure, the message comprising a sidelink Radio Resource Control (RRC) configuration associated with a first cell; and

transmitting, to the first cell, a sidelink failure report indicating the sidelink failure event,

wherein the UE determines that the sidelink failure event has occurred before being configured with the sidelink RRC configuration associated with the first cell.

10. The method of claim 9 ,

wherein the UE determines that the sidelink failure event has occurred also before receiving the sidelink RRC configuration associated with the first cell.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein:

the sidelink failure event comprises a sidelink RRC reconfiguration failure event for a PC5 RRC connection between the UE and the paired sidelink destination UE, and

the sidelink failure report includes a cause of failure variable and a UE identifier (ID) associated with the paired sidelink destination UE, the cause of failure variable having a value that indicates the sidelink RRC reconfiguration failure as a source of sidelink failure.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein:

the sidelink failure event comprises a sidelink RRC reconfiguration failure event for a PC5 RRC connection between the UE and the paired sidelink destination UE,

determining that the sidelink failure event associated with the paired sidelink destination UE has occurred comprises determining that the sidelink failure event has occurred after receiving a sidelink reconfiguration failure report from the paired sidelink destination UE via a PC5 interface, and

the sidelink failure report includes a cause of failure variable and a UE identifier (ID) associated with the paired sidelink destination UE, the cause of failure variable having a value that indicates the sidelink RRC reconfiguration failure as a source of sidelink failure.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein:

the sidelink failure event comprises a sidelink radio link failure event for a PC5 RRC connection between the UE and the paired sidelink destination UE, and

the sidelink failure report includes a cause of failure variable and a UE identifier (ID) associated with the paired sidelink destination UE, the cause of failure variable having a value that indicates the radio link failure as a source of sidelink failure.

14. The method of claim 9 ,

wherein the sidelink RRC configuration comprises at least one of a UE-specific dedicated sidelink RRC configuration and a cell-specific common sidelink RRC configuration.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein:

the message indicates to the UE to perform a handover procedure from the second cell to the first cell, and

transmitting, to the first cell, the sidelink failure report indicating the sidelink failure event comprises transmitting, to the first cell, the sidelink failure report after performing the handover procedure to switch from the second cell to the first cell based on the message.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein transmitting, to the first cell, the sidelink failure report indicating the sidelink failure event further comprises transmitting, to the first cell, the sidelink failure report also after receiving, via broadcast, a system information block 12 (SIB 12) from the first cell, the SIB 12 indicating a sidelink operation associated with the first cell.
