Abstract

A system, as well as associated methods, for increasing the efficiency of a gas turbine including an inlet assembly and a compressor may include a housing configured to channel airstream towards the inlet assembly, an air treatment module positioned at a proximal end the housing, and at least one air conditioning module mounted downstream of the air treatment module for adjusting the temperature of the airstream entering the compressor. The air treatment module may include a plurality of inlet air filters and at least one blower configured to pressurize the air entering the air treatment module.

Claims (24)

1. An air treatment system to increase the efficiency of a gas turbine, the air treatment system comprising:

(a) a housing having an internal chamber and one or more inlets and positioned to channel air flow into the internal chamber; and

(b) one or more air treatment modules including one or more stages of a plurality of inlet air filters to provide pre-cleaning of airstream flow entering the inlets of the housing and prior to entry into the internal chamber of the housing, the internal chamber including one or more outlets therefrom; and

(c) a controller in signal communication with (i) one or more temperature sensors to receive temperature sensed of the airstream flow into the housing and (ii) one or more pressure transducers to receive the pressure of the airstream flow into the housing, thereby to determine a pressure drop within the housing, the controller positioned to operate the one or more air treatment modules so as to adjust the temperature of the airstream by a determined temperature.

2. The air treatment system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more air treatment modules is configured to decrease a temperature of the airstream by an amount ranging from about 2 degrees F. to about 20 degrees F.

3. The air treatment system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of inlet air filters knock down debris prior to entering the internal chamber of the housing, and the system further comprising one or more additional filters positioned downstream of the one or more air treatment modules.

4. A hydraulic fracturing unit to be mounted on a trailer, the hydraulic fracturing unit comprising:

a hydraulic fracturing pump;

a gas turbine to drive the hydraulic fracturing pump and including an inlet assembly and a gas turbine compressor; and

an air treatment system including:

a housing having an internal chamber and positioned to channel an airstream towards the inlet assembly;

an air treatment module having one or more inlet air filters to filter fluid flow to the internal chamber, and

a controller in signal communication with (a) one or more temperature sensors to receive temperature of the airstream, and (b) one or more pressure transducers to receive the pressure of air flowing into the internal chamber of the housing, the controller positioned to adjust the temperature of the airstream by a determined temperature during operation.

5. The hydraulic fracturing unit of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of inlet air filters knock down debris prior to entering the internal chamber of the housing, and the hydraulic fracturing unit further including one or more additional filters positioned downstream from the air treatment module.

6. A method to enhance the efficiency of a gas turbine, the method comprising:

causing air to flow toward an inlet assembly of a housing;

passing the air through a plurality of inlet air filters to an internal chamber of the housing so that the plurality of inlet air filters knock down debris when the debris flows with the air through the plurality of inlet air filters prior to entry into the internal chamber;

causing the air to (a) pass through, (b) pass around, or (c) pass through and around one or more air treatment modules;

determining a pressure drop within the internal chamber; and

based on a first temperature and a second temperature, operating the one or more air treatment modules to adjust the temperature of the air by a determined temperature, thereby to cause the air to enter the one or more air treatment modules at a first temperature and exit the one or more air treatment modules at a second temperature lower than the first temperature.

7. A method to enhance the efficiency of a gas turbine, the method comprising:

causing air to flow toward an inlet assembly positioned in an upward portion of a housing;

passing the air through a plurality of inlet air filters of the inlet assembly to an internal chamber so that the plurality of inlet air filters knock down debris prior to entry into the internal chamber; and

causing the air to (a) pass through, (b) pass around, or (c) pass through and around one or more air treatment modules within the internal chamber.
