Abstract

Disclosed are various embodiments for resolving conflicts between workflows in a workflow processing system. A plurality of workflows stored in a workflow queue are evaluated to identify a common dependency of the plurality of workflows. Then, a version hierarchy is created for the common dependency of the plurality of workflows, the version hierarchy identifying multiple versions of the common dependency. In response to execution of a first one of the plurality of workflows stored in the workflow queue, the version hierarchy can be evaluated to identify the most recent version of the common dependency. Then, installation of the most recent version of the common dependency can be initiated.

Claims (61)

1. A system, comprising:

a computing device comprising a processor and a memory; and

machine-readable instructions stored in the memory that, when executed by the processor, cause the computing device to at least:

evaluate a plurality of time windows in a command queue to identify a current time window of the plurality of time windows;

create a classification hierarchy for the current time window of the plurality of time windows, the classification hierarchy identifying multiple classifications of the current time window;

identify a plurality of workflows dependent on the current time window;

in response to execution of the current time window of the plurality of time windows stored in the command queue, evaluate the classification hierarchy to identify a highest classification of the current time window;

initiate execution of the highest classification of the current time window; and

in response to execution of the highest classification of the current time window, initiate execution of at least one workflow dependent on the highest classification of the current time window.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the machine-readable instructions stored in the memory, when executed by the processor, further cause the computing device to at least:

determine that the execution of the highest classification of the current time window is prohibited;

in response to determination that the execution of the highest classification of the current time window is prohibited, evaluate the classification hierarchy to identify a second highest classification of the current time window;

initiate execution of the second highest classification of the current time window; and

in response to execution of the second highest classification of the current time window, block execution of one or more workflows of the plurality of workflows, wherein the one or more workflows are dependent on the highest classification of the current time window.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the machine-readable instructions stored in the memory, when executed by the processor, further cause the computing device to at least send a message to a management service that the one or more workflows have failed.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the machine-readable instructions stored in the memory, when executed by the processor, further cause the computing device to at least:

send a request to a management service for the plurality of time windows;

receive the plurality of time windows from the management service; and

store the plurality of time windows from the management service in the command queue.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein a time window of the plurality of time windows is a single block of time.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the time window of the plurality of time windows is a recurring block of time.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the current time window is a maintenance time window.

8. A computer-implemented method, comprising

evaluating a plurality of time windows in a command queue to identify a current time window of the plurality of time windows;

creating a classification hierarchy for the current time window of the plurality of time windows, the classification hierarchy identifying multiple classification of the current time window;

identifying a plurality of workflows dependent on the current time window;

in response to execution of the current time window of the plurality of time windows stored in the command queue, evaluating the classification hierarchy to identify a highest classification of the current time window;

initiating execution of the highest classification of the current time window; and

in response to execution of the highest classification of the current time window, initiating execution of at least one workflow dependent on the highest classification of the current time window.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising:

determining that the execution of the highest classification of the current time window is prohibited;

in response to determining that the execution of the highest classification of the current time window is prohibited, evaluate the classification hierarchy to identify a second highest classification of the current time window;

initiating execution of the second highest classification of the current time window; and

in response to execution of the second highest classification of the current time window, blocking execution of one or more workflows the plurality of workflows, wherein the one or more workflows are dependent on the highest classification of the current time window.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising sending a message to a management service that the one or more workflows have failed.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising:

sending a request to a management service for the plurality of time windows;

receiving the plurality of time windows from the management service; and

storing the plurality of time windows from the management service in the command queue.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein a time window of the plurality of time windows is a single block of time.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the time window of the plurality of time windows is a recurring block of time.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the current time window is a maintenance time window.

15. A non-transitory, computer-readable medium comprising machine-readable instructions stored in a memory that, when executed by a processor of a client device, cause the client device to at least:

evaluate a plurality of time windows in a command queue to identify a current time window of the plurality of time windows;

create a classification hierarchy for the current time window of the plurality of time windows, the classification hierarchy identifying multiple classification of the current time window;

identify a plurality of workflows dependent on the current time window;

in response to execution of the current time window of the plurality of time windows stored in the command queue, evaluate the classification hierarchy to identify a highest classification of the current time window;

initiate execution of the highest classification of the current time window; and

in response to the execution of the highest classification of the current time window, initiate execution of at least one workflow dependent on the highest classification of the current time window.

16. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the machine-readable instructions stored in the memory, when executed by the processor, further cause the client device to at least:

determine that the execution of the highest classification of the current time window is prohibited;

in response to determination that the execution of the highest classification of the current time window is prohibited, evaluate the classification hierarchy to identify a second highest classification of the current time window;

initiate execution of the second highest classification of the current time window; and

in response to execution of the second highest classification of the current time window, block execution of one or more workflows of the plurality of workflows, wherein the one or more workflows are dependent on the highest classification of the current time window.

17. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the machine-readable instructions stored in the memory, when executed by the processor, further cause the client device to at least send a message to a management service that the one or more workflows have failed.

18. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the machine-readable instructions stored in the memory, when executed by the processor, further cause the client device to at least:

send a request to a management service for the plurality of time windows;

receive the plurality of time windows from the management service; and

store the plurality of time windows from the management service in the command queue.

19. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein a time window of the plurality of time windows is a single block of time.

20. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the current time window is a maintenance time window to be executed on the client device.
