Abstract

The present disclosure relates to water-based inkjet ink formulations comprising a solvent containing water, at least one coloring agent, and at least one alkali-metal organosiliconate of Formula (I) Formula (I) wherein: R is C 1 -C 5 alkyl group; Mi, M2, and M3 are each, independently of the other, selected from hydrogen or a cation of an alkali metal, wherein at least one of the Mi, M 2 and M 3 is a cation of an alkali metal. The water-based inkjet ink formulations are used in methods for preventing or minimizing print head deterioration. The present disclosure further relates to printing methods utilizing the water-based inkjet ink formulations and to printing systems comprising said formulations.

Claims (34)

1 - 108 . (canceled)

109 . A water-based inkjet ink formulation comprising:

(a) a solvent containing water;

(b) at least one coloring agent; and

(c) at least one alkali-metal organosiliconate of Formula (I)

wherein:

R is C 1 -C 5 alkyl group which may be substituted;

M 1 , M 2 , and M 3 are each, independently of the other, selected from hydrogen or a cation of an alkali metal, wherein at least one of said M 1 , M 2 and M 3 is a cation of an alkali metal.

110 . The inkjet ink formulation of claim 109 , further comprising at least one binder.

111 . The inkjet ink formulation of claim 109 , wherein R is selected from methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl.

112 . The inkjet ink formulation of claim 109 , wherein two of said M 1 , M 2 , and M 3 are hydrogen and the third is a cation of an alkali metal.

113 . The inkjet ink formulation of claim 109 , wherein R is methyl and wherein said at least one alkali-metal organosiliconate is selected from the group consisting of:

.

114 . The inkjet ink formulation of claim 109 , wherein said formulation is devoid of one or more inorganic silicate/s and/or of colloidal silica.

115 . The inkjet ink formulation of claim 109 , wherein said coloring agent comprises at least one white pigment.

116 . A method for preventing or minimizing print head deterioration, said method comprising utilizing a water-based inkjet ink formulation, wherein said formulation comprises at least one alkali-metal organosiliconate of Formula (I)

wherein:

R is C 1 -C 5 alkyl group which may be substituted;

M 1 , M 2 , and M 3 are each, independently of the other, selected from hydrogen or a cation of an alkali metal, wherein at least one of said M 1 , M 2 and M 3 is a cation of an alkali metal;

to thereby prevent or minimize print head deterioration,

and wherein said water-based inkjet ink formulation further comprises a solvent containing water and at least one coloring agent.

117 . The method of claim 116 , wherein said water-based inkjet ink formulation further comprises at least one binder.

118 . The method of claim 116 , wherein R is selected from methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl.

119 . The method of claim 116 , wherein two of said M 1 , M 2 , and M 3 are hydrogen and the third is a cation of an alkali metal.

120 . The method of claim 116 , wherein R is methyl and wherein said at least one alkali-metal organosiliconate is selected from the group consisting of:

.

121 . The method of claim 116 , wherein said formulation is devoid of one or more inorganic silicate/s and/or of colloidal silica.

122 . The method of claim 116 , wherein said coloring agent comprises at least one white pigment.

123 . The method of claim 116 , wherein said preventing or minimizing print head deterioration is suppressing deterioration of the print head, wherein said suppressing deterioration of the print head being suppressing deterioration of the print head liquid repellent property.

124 . The method of claim 116 , wherein said print head forms part of a printing system which may be a direct or an indirect printing system.

125 . The method of claim 116 , wherein at least part of the print head is formed of metal oxide.

126 . The method of claim 125 , wherein said metal oxide is a thermally grown silicon oxide being coated with a liquid repellent film comprising a fluoroalkylsilane moiety, and wherein said liquid repellent film is provided on the surface of an inkjet print head nozzle at a side toward the ink ejection direction of the nozzle.

127 . A printing method utilizing the water-based inkjet ink formulation according to claim 109 .

128 . A printing system comprising the water-based inkjet ink formulation according to claim 109 .
