Abstract

An embodiment of the present invention is a printer including: a feed roller configured to feed a print medium; a print head configured to pinch the print medium with the feed roller and to print on the print medium; and a biasing member configured to bias the print head in a first direction toward the feed roller. The print head is movable in the first direction between a first position and a second position. The first position is a position at which the print head can be removed when moved in a second direction. The second position being a position at which the print head cannot be removed when moved in the second direction.

Claims (43)

1. A printer configured to be switched between (i) a peeling issuing mode, in which labels that are releasably attached to a liner of a print medium are issued after being peeled from the liner, and (ii) a continuous issuing mode, in which labels that are releasably attached to the liner of the print medium are issued without being peeled from the liner, the printer comprising:

a feed roller configured to feed the print medium;

a print head configured to pinch the print medium with the feed roller and to print on the print medium; and

a biasing member configured to bias the print head in a first direction toward the feed roller; and

a peeling unit configured to hold a peeling roller that faces the feed roller when the printer is in the peeling issuing mode, the peeling unit being movable between (i) a closed position, at which the peeling unit at least partly covers the print head, and (ii) an open position, at which the peeling unit does not cover the print head; wherein:

the print head is movable in the first direction between (i) a first position, at which the print head can be removed when moved in a second direction, and (ii) a second position, at which the print head cannot be removed when moved in the second direction; and

when the peeling unit is at the open position and the print head is at the first position, space for allowing mounting and removing the print head is formed.

2. The printer according to claim 1 , wherein:

the print head comprises:

a base on which heating elements are mounted, and

a pair of shafts that extend outward from both ends of the base; and

the printer further comprises a pair of grooves that receives the pair of shafts, the pair of grooves including a first groove and a second groove, the first groove extending in the second direction from the first position, the second groove extending in the first direction from the first position to the second position.

3. The printer according to claim 2 , further comprising:

a roll body containing chamber configured to contain a roll into which the print medium is wound; wherein:

the print head comprises a first side biased by the biasing member, and a second side that is an opposite of the first side, the second side facing the feed roller; and

at least a part of the second side of the print head is exposed to the roll body containing chamber.

4. The printer according to claim 2 , further comprising:

a circuit board;

a flexible cable configured to connect the print head and the circuit board; and

a cable-containing chamber configured to contain the flexible cable, the cable-containing chamber being formed between the print head and the circuit board.

5. The printer according to claim 4 , further comprising:

a printer cover to which the feed roller is attached, wherein the printer cover is swingable between (i) an open position for exposing an inside of the printer, and a (ii) closed position for covering the inside of the printer; and

a locking member that is swingable between (i) a locking position for locking the printer cover to the closed position, and (ii) an unlocking position for unlocking the printer cover at the closed position; wherein:

the cable-containing chamber is formed in space between the locking member and the print head.

6. The printer according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a roll body containing chamber configured to contain a roll into which the print medium is wound; wherein;

the print head comprises:

a first side biased by the biasing member, and

a second side that is an opposite of the first side, the second side facing the feed roller; and

at least a part of the second side of the print head is exposed to the roll body containing chamber.

7. The printer according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a circuit board;

a flexible cable configured to connect the print head and the circuit board; and

a cable-containing chamber containing the flexible cable, the cable-containing chamber being formed between the print head and the circuit board.

8. The printer according to claim 7 , further comprising:

a printer cover to which the feed roller is attached, wherein the printer cover is swingable between (i) an open position for exposing an inside of the printer, and (ii) a closed position for covering the inside of the printer; and

a locking member that is swingable between (i) a locking position for locking the printer cover to the closed position, and (ii) an unlocking position for unlocking the printer cover at the closed position; wherein:

the cable-containing chamber is formed in space between the locking member and the print head.

9. A method for replacing a print head of a printer, the method comprising:

providing the printer according to claim 1 ;

moving the print head in an opposite direction to the first direction, from the second position to the first position, against a biasing force of the biasing member;

moving the print head in the second direction from the first position to remove the print head; and

inserting a new print head into the first position to move the new print head from the first position to the second position with the biasing force of the biasing member.
