Abstract

Lost wax casting bonding methods and systems. A method for bonding a wax component in a feeder system for a lost wax casting process comprises embedding conductive nano-particles in wax to form a sacrificial susceptor. The method includes coupling the wax component to another component such that the sacrificial susceptor is at an interface of the wax component and the other component. The method comprises inductively heating the sacrificial susceptor to cause the wax of the sacrificial susceptor and at least a portion of wax of the wax component to melt to thereby form a bond between the wax component and the other component.

Claims (30)

1. A method for bonding a wax component in a feeder system for a lost wax casting process, comprising:

embedding conductive nano-particles in wax to form a sacrificial susceptor;

coupling said wax component to another component such that said sacrificial susceptor is at an interface of said wax component and said other component; and

inductively heating said sacrificial susceptor to cause said wax of said sacrificial susceptor and at least a portion of wax of said wax component to melt to thereby form a bond between said wax component and said other component.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said interface is a tapered depression.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising rotating said wax component within said tapered depression.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising inductively heating said sacrificial susceptor using a robot.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said robot comprises a 2-axis positioner.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said wax component is a runner.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said wax component is a support.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein said sacrificial susceptor comprises magnetite.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein particles of said magnetite have a spherical shape.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein said other component is part of said feeder system.

11. A method for bonding a wax component in a feeder system for a lost wax casting process, comprising:

embedding conductive nano-particles in wax to form a sacrificial susceptor;

coupling said wax component to another component such that said sacrificial susceptor is at an interface of said wax component and said other component; and

heating said sacrificial susceptor to cause said wax of said sacrificial susceptor and at least a portion of wax of said wax component to melt to thereby form a bond between said wax component and said other component.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein said heating is inductive.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising locating said sacrificial susceptor in a depression integral with said other component.

14. The method of claim 12 , further comprising locating said sacrificial susceptor in a depression integral with said wax component.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein a percentage loading of said sacrificial susceptor is about 8%.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein said embedding is via a blending process.

17. A system for bonding a wax component in a feeder system for a lost wax casting process, comprising:

a plurality of sacrificial susceptors each comprising conductive nano-particles embedded in wax;

a plurality of runners and supports, each of said plurality of runners and supports configured to be coupled to said feeder system; and

a robot comprising an inductive heating system;

wherein, each of said plurality of runners and supports has associated therewith at least one of said plurality of sacrificial susceptors.

18. The system of claim 17 , further comprising a plurality of wax blades.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein said feeder system comprises a feeding cup and a base plate.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein at least one of said plurality of sacrificial susceptors comprises magnetite.
